Who Would You Trade Up For, And How Far Would You Go Up To Get Them?
Alphadawg7 replied to H2o's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yeah, I agree that LT and Edge can be guys to make a decent sized move for too...but generally, when you are pick 28 and need to move into say the top 10, I still think that is only for a QB given the cost to make such a big move. -
Looking around the league, it is REALLY hard to find a team that makes a lot of sense from the stand point of being an NFL starter. From a team need perspective, Steelers are the only one I can look at and Wilson likely makes that team better on the field, and that is more about how bad the Steeler QB's are than it is about how good Wilson is today. With the defense and run game, Wilson doesn't have to carry the offense kind of like the early days in Seattle when they went to back to back SB's winning one. However, from a culture stand point, Steelers feel like a bad fit and I have a hard time seeing Pittsburgh being interested. So I don't know where he goes and gets a chance to start other than to say keep the seat warm for a rookie. And you got to imagine teams are going to be concerned after the Broncos said they would rather have an $85M dead cap hit than see him QB another game for them. I mean, thats a pretty huge statement and from a team that has Sean Payton as an offensive HC.

Who Would You Trade Up For, And How Far Would You Go Up To Get Them?

While I do agree with you about moving up once we get into the 20's, I wouldn't say "any" of them though. I think the players Beane would go up are a lot less some of the players being mentioned. For example Legette and Worthy. I just don't see either being the kind of WR that Beane would move up for in this draft. I think there are 5 WR's that Beane would make a move up to get in this draft, and the kind of move up is probably within the 20's still so it is not too costly. Harrison, Nabers, Odunze, Thomas, and Mitchell. I highly doubt any of the big 3 get close enough to where Beane would pull the trigger and move up. Unless something kind of crazy happens and Worthy somehow leap frogs one of the big 3 after his crazy 40 time and it surprisingly pushes one of them down to striking distance for Beane who would probably pay a little more to go up and get one of them. So I think that leaves really Thomas and Mitchell as the kind of WR I think Beane would pull the trigger to go get in a small trade up. I don't think he would do it for Worthy, just do not think he is a good fit here or what Beane is looking for as his frame is just too small despite being 6'1". Maybe he would for McConkey, depends who you ask though as where people grade him seems to vary some from person to person. I am one that is very high on McConkey, before the combine I had him as the 5th WR on my board. Now I have him and Mitchell kind of tied for 5th. I think he has the highest floor while still possessing one of the highest ceilings, and his game and style would help Josh a lot IMHO. There is a chance that all 5 of the big 3 with Thomas and Mitchell are gone before we pick, which then makes me think Beane stays put at 28 and either takes next WR or another position if someone they love gets pushed down thanks to the QB and WR runs, or maybe even makes a small trade back to pickup an extra 3rd or something in this draft. BUT: I do expect Beane to be aggressive on getting a guy he covets, so my way too early prediction is we make a small trade up to get either Thomas or Mitchell...or in an extremely surprising case of Worthy going before all the big 3 are gone, going up and getting one of the big 3 if they get near that 20th pick range. -
I say there is no way to answer this question because there is no answer that will be true after the draft because you do not know yet what kind of players the rookies will be in the NFL, nor how long it will take to reach their potential or prove to not be the right guy. Sane with FA's, no way to know who well they fit in and gel here until we see them on the field too.

Is trading Milano something Bills should consider?
Alphadawg7 replied to All I Need is Hope's topic in The Stadium Wall
I hear ya...but lets look at what you are saying: Hyde & Poyer: Factually, they were very important to this defense and the style we played for many years. So I don't know it was incorrect to say we needed them, especially with nothing resembling starting material behind them to elevate if we moved one. So can't fault anyone who might have said we need them in years past. This year of course is different as they are now at the tail end of their careers and not quite as impactful and good during their prime runs here. Milano being out might have been the biggest reason we lost to KC. Because not only was Milano out, so was Bernard. Going into the game I specifically stated the thing I am afraid of the most is that KC is going to abuse and attack the massive hole at LB with both Milano and Bernard out. And that is exactly what they did in a game we lost by 3. Had we not been missing our LB's, that game very much might have looked different. Milano is maybe the closest thing left on our defense right now to an All Pro, and I would go as far as say he is our best defensive player this next year (assuming he is fully back from his injury). Can't see any reason to trade him and with him and Bernard, suddenly LB is our strength instead of our absolute weakest spot next time we face KC. But I don't disagree with you on your overall point, in fact, I think guys like Poyer and Tre are questionable to be here for that very reason. I just don't think Milano fits the description of someone we need to trade this year, especially with the heavy transition we are likely to see elsewhere on the defense. With Hyde gone, and question marks around Tre, Poyer, and even Douglas...There is a chance we can be looking at 3 new starters in our secondary, possibly 4. So as far as Douglas goes, I am in the camp to keep him. He was our best cornerback the moment he stepped on the field, and I would rather cut both Poyer and Tre to keep Douglas personally even though Tre and Poyer are two of my faves. Douglas just has to more to offer this defense right now and he was the best secondary player on the team once he got here. Within our own division we face the Miami air attack, Jets could be dangerous air attack if Rodgers is even 75% the player he was, and if NE has a ton of cap room to get back in the mix still. Then you still have KC and CIncy to contend with, plus who knows what impact Harbaugh has on Charges and Herbert this year. Point is, in the AFC where the gauntlet of top QB's are, completely depleting your entire secondary on a defense that depends a lot on its secondary is going to really put even more pressure on Allen and this offense. So, that is why I would want to keep Douglas even if it means getting rid of two team and fan favorites like Poyer and Tre to make the cap room necessary to justify keeping Douglas. But also, don't forget the cap is higher now, and with that bonus, I see even less reason to cut or trade Douglas. -
After yesterday who is your WR pick at 28?
Alphadawg7 replied to SoonerBillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall
If we based it solely on stats from college, we would have drafted Josh Rosen instead of Josh Allen. There is context, and I trust Beane and his team to do the work to understand the nuances of each. Personally, I think Mitchell is a true WR1 prospect, although I think Thomas still ranks ahead of him. Before the combine, I actually like McConkey slightly more than Mitchell. But post combine, I am much more torn on who I would take if both were on the board at 28 and leaning Mitchell now. But I do love McConkey as I think he has the highest floor of the bunch that will be there while still having the same high ceiling. Im actually quite terrified that KC is going to end up with McConkey personally who I think would be a beast in that offense. -

Can we trade this thread instead? lol. No thanks, this defense needs Milano. -
The score doesn't make any sense. They have no idea who the scouts, Beane, or Brady were there to see. I would be more interested in seeing when they met with specific players one on one and how much time they got with said player. Roman Wilson for example is not someone I think they Bills have over scouted to the degree his report suggests. He isn't very physical, is fast, but not "special" fast, isn't great with YAC, has durability concerns, and is a mediocre route runner. But yet he is supposedly the guy the Bills staff has scouted the most just because someone from our staff watched the National Champions play? This is a very flawed system.

Who Would You Trade Up For, And How Far Would You Go Up To Get Them?
Alphadawg7 replied to H2o's topic in The Stadium Wall
All good, everyone has their own boards and opinions, and thats all they are right now, mine included and none are right or wrong currently. Personally, I had him more around WR10 to 12 range coming in, and still do because I do not see him as a WR1 in the NFL with his very skinny frame. His playing weight was 164 pounds...so what do you mean based on what? He weighed in at 165 at the combine. He is 6'1" and only weighs 165 pounds, he is a stick figure. I don't get the Flowers comparison at all TBH other than both are fast. Flowers is much shorter but weighs more than Worthy, they have totally different frames. And if I am being honest about Flowers, he hasn't shown he is a WR1 either. He had 850 yards and only 1 game with 100 yards on a team desperate for WR help. Despite all his speed, he averaged just 11.1 ypc because they used him small because he is small. Flowers had a fine rookie year, don't get me wrong, not dumping on him, but with the riches at WR in this draft, he just isn't the barometer I am looking for with so many guys who have all 3 of size, speed, and talent at all 3 levels who are clear WR1 type prospects. If Diggs was 28, then fine, someone like Worthy might come in and be complimentary piece to a WR1. But in a draft this rich with guys who are clear WR1 candidates, I just can't see elevating Worthy over many of them in the first. A team like Dallas with Lamb who plays indoors at home would make a ton of sense for Worthy, but for a team that needs an heir WR1 to Diggs and already lacks size at WR, he just doesn't seem like the right choice for us specifically. I just struggle to see the fit here where WR's are asked to block a lot, bad weather negates speed often here in Buffalo, especially late in season and post season where the games mean the most. Now if we took a WR like Thomas or Mitchell for example and landed Worthy in a trade up say in the 2nd, then great. End of day, my 2 cents is that I don't personally want to come out of this draft with our heir to the WR1 throne weighing under 170 pounds despite being over 6 feet tall because I think he will be too easily taken out of bad weather games, offers very little in terms of blocking when we need to run the ball (again like bad weather post season games), I don't think has the strength to be a consistent WR at all 3 levels of the defense, and I don't trust his skinny frame to hold up to the punishment of an NFL season as a featured WR1. -
Who Would You Trade Up For, And How Far Would You Go Up To Get Them?

Struggles off the line, struggles in short area acceleration, struggles to use his speed outside of long straight strides, struggles to gain separation outside of where he can use his stride. Sounds like a slightly faster clone of Gabe. -
Who Would You Trade Up For, And How Far Would You Go Up To Get Them?
Alphadawg7 replied to H2o's topic in The Stadium Wall
I dont get the Worthy love. Why cuz he ran in no pads in a straight line really fast? There are big WR's running blazing sub 4.4 fortys this year, its insane. Yet people are enamored with a stick figure who weighs as much as my 10 month old son in Worthy? For me, he is the classic overdrafted guy because he wowed in the 40. Cannot fathom how a guy who is 6'1" but only weighs 165 pounds after a huge meal is supposed to hold up to WR1 type volume in the NFL. He is nothing compared to Tyreek Hill despite seeing so many people comparing them. They are both fast, thats it. Hill is tank for his size and is maybe the best deep ball tracker of his generation and a rare case of someone with the ups and strength to play a foot taller than he is. Meanwhile, the wind in Buffalo might blow him off his route lol. What makes you so sure Leggette is an improvement over Gabe Davis? Because is 40 time is faster? Im not saying Leggette is a bad prospect, but the negatives/concerns on Leggette are all still there after running fast at his combine. Poor footwork, lack of acceleration and burst off the line to gain separation, is more of a strider so takes a while to get up to his top speed and lacks short area explosion, etc. I mean if I was to write down all the issues with Gabe Davis I would write all those verbatim. Doesn't mean Leggette cant put those concerns to rest and improve on them, but at pick 28 this team needs a WR who is a threat at all 3 levels of the defense, someone who can replace Diggs at some point as WR1. At 28...If I am Beane, I am all about getting Thomas or Mitchell as the top 2 priorities, and willing to make a small trade up to get one. If the trade up doesn't work out, and both are gone, I would take McConkey or make a small trade back and pick up an extra 3rd where I can still take a WR after the trade down and have an extra 3rd to double up on another WR that slips in this deep draft or even package with another one of our picks to move back up and get another one. ' If we traded down say within 10 spots: Could still potentially land McConkey (although I seriously doubt he gets past KC), Legette, Pearsall (crushed his combine and moved himself up in the draft), or someone like Franklin or Coleman who likely slide a little bit after a few disappointing drills at the combine. With two 2nd's and two 3rds, we could take 2 WR's in those 4 picks with great value and still grab someone for the DL and the secondary. As I said in another post, my way too early prediction: Bills make a small move up to land one of Thomas or Mitchell. After the combine, I really feel like these two guys grade out very closely to the big 3 and are true WR1, attack all 3 levels of the defense, type prospects. Armed with 10 picks, I think Beane is willing to pull the trigger to get one if need be. Furthermore, with the cap suprisingly higher than anticipated, I think Beane might be a little more aggressive in terms of filling holes in FA...not high priced spending...but filling enough holes so that he can use some of his draft picks to move around the draft to get the young talent he is targeting and not hit the draft feeling like he cant spare the picks to fill holes. -
Who Would You Trade Up For, And How Far Would You Go Up To Get Them?
Alphadawg7 replied to H2o's topic in The Stadium Wall
Obviously, if 6 WRs are taken before our pick then it is certainly the big 3 of Harrison, Odunze, and Nabers and then I think it is fair to say its most likely Thomas, Mitchell and probably Worthy after they all lit the combine up. As for your list of guys we must take at 28 if even one of them is there...I don't share that opinion with either Worthy or Legette at 28. Worthy screams combine overdraft and likely disappoints at the next level (in terms of being a WR1) with his very slim frame. I just can't see him as a WR1 with a heavy target load and holding up at the next level. Personally, I am not taking Legette at 28 either as IMHO he won't be the BPA at 28 no matter how the board realistically falls. While he had a stellar combine for physical measurements, it doesn't change his weaknesses are poor footwork, lack of short area acceleration and burst, and is more of a strider to get up to speed. Like if I was to write a weakness section for Gabe Davis, it would say the same things. The only ones on your list I would take at 28 are Thomas and Mitchell, but again, this was about 6 WR's already being gone, and that would mean these two are not on the board. For the record, if one of these two are, Beane runs to the podium IMHO. So at 28, the guys after the first 6 are off the board start grading a lot closer to each other and will greatly vary from board to board the order. You have guys like McConkey, Legette, Franklin, Pearsall, Coleman, etc. Personally, I would take McConkey if both Mitchell and Thomas are gone, but who should go next will vary greatly based on who you are talking to. This is where maybe there are 2, 3, maybe even 5 guys Beane likes at WR still here and why I could see him maybe making a small trade back, say within 10 spots or so and adding another third round pick and still getting a guy he wants. What I do know, is that Beane will not trade back if a guy he covets is there, or if there is only one guy he covets left at 28 and he is getting closer to our pick, I can see Beane going up and getting say a Thomas or Mitchell in a small trade up. My way too early prediction: Beane makes a small trade up within 5 spots of our pick to get either Thomas or Mitchell. -
He would likely compete for that Ty Johnson role.

id almost rather move back if 6 go before our pick How many Super Bowls did Atlanta win with Julio Jones? How many years did Atlanta have a great offense and bad defense because they had no talent on defense and struggled to even make the playoffs or flat out missed the playoffs? Julio Jones trade is not an example of a success story when the goal is a SB win and sustained SB contention. -

Multiple of those guys will be there at 28, so why would you trade up? -
As someone who has been high on Shakir going into the draft, pleaded to take him in the 3rd even and was ecstatic when we managed to get him in the 5th, and has pounded the drum for him since he got here, especially earlier this year and all last offseason...I will say the following: Shakir is more than just a slot WR. All the things commonly said about Shakir are the same things everyone said about Cooper Kupp coming out of college. Kupp was seen as a slot guy that could play some outside, but was more of a slot guy and would likely need to move around outside and inside to find ways to get open. Shakir is faster than Kupp too, and they are close in frame and weight with Kupp being an inch taller and 4 pounds heavier. Im not saying Shakir is going to put Kupp like numbers up, just saying it is a mistake to pigeon hole him as just a slot WR in a Cole Beasley style role only. No doubt we are drafting a WR and I expect it to be early and someone with WR1 type potential to learn from Diggs and eventually replace him. But I think Shakir is going to prove to be a dangerous weapon for us this year along with Diggs and Kincaid. Now add in at least 1 rookie with WR1 type potential, and suddenly we not only got a great offense this year, be we got 3 or more young pieces to continue to build around in the post Diggs era with Shakir, the rookie(s) this year and Kincaid.
-
This is what I said would likely happen when people were worried a while back about Beane's comments. His contract was just too easy to cut for cap issues, he was always going to need to be cut, but I do think they would still bring him back cheaper if he wants to be back and compete in camp.

Who Would You Trade Up For, And How Far Would You Go Up To Get Them?
Alphadawg7 replied to H2o's topic in The Stadium Wall
This has Sammy Watkins vibes. We traded up to get Watkins in a WR rich draft, that was a mistake and even though he was the #1 WR prospect that year, he saw guys go after him that dwarfed his on field production. There is no one in this draft I would make a big move to get...The ONLY position you do that for is QB. Any other position is a colossal mistake IMHO. I could see us moving up to like low 20's or something where the compensation is more reasonable, but only if a guy they covet is there who they have a significantly higher grade on than who might be there at 28. I think its more likely we stay at 28 and wouldn't even be surprised if we traded back a little bit and picked up some extra draft capital if there was say a handful of guys they liked at 28 still on the board. -
After yesterday who is your WR pick at 28?
Alphadawg7 replied to SoonerBillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall
Not meeting him at the combine does not rule him out with us. They already met with him at Sr. Bowl. So yeah, if they are on him it would make sense to not show too much interest and not meet him again at combine. Not to mention, there are a lot of picks in Beane's pocket this year, so they probably want to meet with as many different players as they can too. Personally, its hard to tell this year because the WR position is so deep, it is difficult to identify what Beane's board might look like. If Beane say has only 4 guys with first round grades (say: Harrision, Nabers, Odunze, Thomas) and three of them are gone and one is left on the board as we enter the 20's...then I think its quite possible Beane looks at a small trade up to ensure he gets his guy. Now even if he has them as the top 4 but has a clump of guys he would still take at 28 closely graded behind the 4th guy (Thomas in this case), then I think he probably stays put and lets the draft come to him unless a crazy run of WR's happens ahead of us even after Thomas is gone. Given the depth of the draft, I think it's more likely we stay put and let the draft come to us because of the depth of the position likely has guys they expect to be there when we pick that they like. And to be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if Beane made a small trade down into the 2nd if there were several WR's on the board he wants, especially if it netted him an extra 3rd this year and maybe double up on WR in the first 3 rounds. -
After yesterday who is your WR pick at 28?
Alphadawg7 replied to SoonerBillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall
I agree with that, and if you read my original post a little bit prior, first thing I said is that the thing I hate about this draft is that KC is gonna get a good WR prospect too. Im just saying, of all the WR's I fear the most about going to KC its Ladd. He is the kind of player that could flourish in a system like that. I personally think he is one of the most complete WR's in this draft and not only does he have one of the highest ceilings, but he also has one of the highest floors and is on of the safest bets to at least be a quality player opposite Rice. But yes, getting OUR GUY, the one we feel is the best fit for us, is the top priority. I do think that if Thomas is on the board he would be the pick, but I am skeptical he gets to us without a trade up. If he is gone, then Ladd and Mitchell I think are the two most likely choices. I would not rule out a 2nd WR in the 2nd, but I think they would have to have him as the clear BPA and just love the guy given the amount of holes we need to fill and the overall depth of the WR position in this draft. Beane does go BPA, but he has also repeatedly said they also weigh depth of said position in the draft if the rankings are close. So if say a DT, DE, or S is there in the 2nd that is closely graded with the WR that is BPA, he almost certainly goes that direction and look to add another WR later possibly. There are going to be good WR's found in this draft on day 3 no doubt. -

Alphadawg7 replied to SoonerBillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall
Honestly Ladd McConkey landing in KC terrifies me. I really think this kid has a Cooper Kupp like ceiling and a very how floor. He is who I want at 28, although I wouldn't be upset with Mitchell either. And if Ladd makes it past us, I would bet good money he lands in KC as he would be a perfect fit there as well and that isn't going to be good for anyone. -
After yesterday who is your WR pick at 28?
Alphadawg7 replied to SoonerBillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall
Here is what I hate about this draft… There are going to be multiple exciting WR prospects on the board when we pick and one of those is going to land with KC…and I’m worried that it’s going to be Ladd who I love in this draft and will go on to be a stud in KC. I think Thomas would be the pick if he made it to us, but I think he goes before our pick. So my pick is Ladd or AD. I’d be happy with either, but I have a stronger feeling about Ladd who I think has a lower floor than many of the other WRs with one of the highest ceilings in the draft. -
Mel is back and I gotta say I love the pick
Alphadawg7 replied to 78thealltimegreat's topic in The Stadium Wall
I mean this is their job. Someone has to pay their salaries to do it. I think the issue is that the main public doesn’t understand how much it costs to make content and to keep getting that content there has to be some sort of monetization of that content or they won’t be able to keep making it. -
Takeaways from Beane's Combine pressers
Alphadawg7 replied to GunnerBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
Not only do I think WR will be early, but I also think they are likely going to add a 2nd one on day 3. Yup, I think this was obvious to most While I agree he is not a lock, I also wouldn't read too much into the language. I mean his phrasing makes sense the way he said it given the events he was discussing were past tense as in what he brought to the team this past season after we traded for him. Beane was clearly talking about the impact he made, which was in the past, hence the past tense type phrasing. Now there is no ignoring the Bills cap situation and the cap savings, but Bills also gave up a quality pick to get him that felt like it was more than a 1 year rental. We also have big question marks in our secondary as it is with Hyde gone, Tre coming off a 2nd major leg injury (potential cap casualty cut himself), Benford oft battling injuries, and Elam still unproven. Then there is Poyer who himself could be cap casualty. So if I had to guess today, I still think the more plausible scenario is they extend Rasul and let him stabilize the cornerback position. I wouldn't be that surprised if they did cut him for cap savings, but I think between what we gave up for him and the value he showed on the field, keeping him on an extension makes more sense to this secondary. I would cut Tre before I would cut Rasul, and I love Tre, but 2 major leg injuries and still have no idea how he responds to this second one gives me less confidence than if Rasul was out there. Yeah, I think you nailed that description based on what he said. I totally agree on this too as I do think Spencer gets extended, and OL I think would only come into play late in the draft, if at all, given how this group played last year and how many other holes this team needs to fill.
