Drum Roll Please, Bills New QB for 2017 is:
Mark80 replied to USABuffaloFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So, a guy that 3 other teams have already determined is not good enough to be a starter? Sounds like a brilliant idea. -
Are injuries a legit excuse this year?
Mark80 replied to BillsFan130's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ragland would have been top MLB. Preston Brown has been atrocious. He would have been out of the starting lineup in favor of Zach early into the season. If Ragland was anything like he was in college or pre-season, well, then that injury hurt big time. -
Just Moved From Boston - Explain This To Me!
Mark80 replied to Flip Johnson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Vocal minority vs silent majority my friend. That is all. Welcome back. -
What gets really interesting is the multiple team tie-breaker scenarios. I'm not sure how they fall if there is a three or even 4 way tie for the last wild card spot. Head to head matchups pretty much get thrown out the window in those scenarios and I'm curious to see if we can maybe overtake the Ravens in a 3 or 4 way tie scenario. Man, that BS Seahawks loss really irks me. I knew at the time that it was going to have very high repercussions and it's playing out exactly that way. Unreal.

Strategy Behind Playing Cardale Next Year
Mark80 replied to HumbleAndHungry's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
People say the exact same thing almost every year...next QB class is stacked, blah, blah, blah. When all is said and done there is typically 1 or 2 first round QBs and often the second one is really a 2nd or 3rd round grade just selected in the first because they are a QB. No thanks to pretty much everything in this post. -
If QB is one of the primary concerns--how can it be fixed?
Mark80 replied to The Big Cat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think our best option to win now is to trade for Sam Bradford. He looked pretty good until the Oline there got completely destroyed and he has, historically, been one of the most accurate passers in the league. Additionally, I do not think that he would come at an enormous cost as some other options may. I just hate how weird his eyes are. Would they take a 4th for him? If so, it's a no brainer to me. Highly dependent on whether Bridgewater is on pace to be ready for next year's opener. I don't think any of our QBs have it. Cardale never did anything to ever impress me at Ohio State. His accuracy has been and remains a huge issue. TT I would be OK with keeping on the roster at a much lower, negotiated rate. I would also be fine with keeping EJ at backup money. I believe both of them are a better backup option than Cardale, but neither is going to get us the top prize. I would also welcome the drafting of a QB. Didn't really pay too much attention to Trubisky or Mahomes yet, but I know with certainty that I want nothing to do with Kizer, Kaaya, or Webb. Watson is still very intriguing to me and I think Kelly has some real Favre in his game with his play making ability, fiery attitude, and on-field leadership capabilities. I would welcome him as a 3rd round pick. -
Are the Bills defenders smart enough to run Rex defense?
Mark80 replied to Protocal69's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Absolutely. Been saying this for 2 years. Horrendous. -
Obviously the chatter is mostly around Whaley, Rex, and Brandon around here. But to me, the only person in the organization that absolutely MUST be terminated as soon as possible is whoever keeps leaking information to the media. Is it one of those three? Perhaps. Is it being released at the direction of one of those three? Most likely. If that person can be identified they must go. We cannot have an organization of back stabbing, self-serving individualist if we want to be successful. Someone who is leaking this sort of information before we are even eliminated from the playoffs is a cancer in this organization. How Rex can keep his composure during the press conferences is beyond me and this surely is weighing on his mind and impacting his preparation for Miami and NYJ. Well run organizations are a cohesive team, especially in the public eye, not this.

Or, they realized that he is not good and no where near worth the money that he wanted and got in Houston. Letting him walk was a brilliant move. I agree with OP, they will bring in a QB. Fortunately for them, they are a good enough franchise where someone like Romo or Brees or Rivers or whoever may be available, would love to join them...the Bills...I'm not so sure we can get a top guy to chose to come here over a franchise like that.

Doug Whaley - The Tim Graham Feature Story
Mark80 replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So that's are starters. You get cheap depth thru drafting which we lack severely. Why do you think these injuries hurt so bad? We are constantly playing dudes off the street, sometimes from the week before. -
Doug Whaley - The Tim Graham Feature Story
Mark80 replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The issue are simple. Your draft picks are so much cheaper than FA. That's true for both their rookie contracts and their extensions as many players take less to stay with their original teams than they would on the market. This effect snowballs into your franchising being able to keep more of your better players, rather than let them walk. When you sign FAs, they are more times than not overpriced from the bidding wars, thus rendering you less able to keep your own, cheaper talent. That's why well run franchises make their draft picks work for years. What do we do? We cut Ross Cockrel after two seasons and now he sees significant time on the Steelers. Second, the franchise QB. No, they do not grow on trees, but simple statistics suggest the more times you draft one, the better odds you have a finding a good one. 3 in his time here is, quite simply, unacceptable. Love a lot of stuff that he has done, but these are two glaring areas where he has fallen woefully short. -
My lord, the overreaction around here is just so laughable. A new level of irrelevancy? Did you watch this team when Orton was the QB, or Losman, or Edwards, of Holcomb. Or how about the entire 70's decade and early 80s? We have a long way to fall to reach those levels of irrelevancy, a long, long way. And I hate to break it to all of you, but we still have quite a reasonable path to the playoffs this season. Likely? No. But doable yes. Teams we need to lose have a lot of games on their schedules that they can lose and we really have no business losing any of the remaining games. Chips would have to fall just right, but it is far from impossible.
-
To me you don't spend that kind of money on a guy you know doesn't have it. You spend that kind of money on a guy that you hope has it. The Texans paid Osweiler that money hoping that he had it. The Broncos let him walk instead because they knew he really didn't and I think it has proven to be correct. I know Tyrod doesn't have it and would rather spend that money on taking a chance on a guy that may have it or elsewhere. I'd rather have EJ signed at $5-10M per year for a year or two than TT for anything above that and $27M for next year? If that is picked up that would rise to a level of incompetence that I don't even think the Bills are capable of.

Pick your next GM HC, and biggest offseason acquisition
Mark80 replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I say no to Jim Bob Cooter. That would be the first NFL HC younger than I am. A realization that I am not yet prepared to face. Sweet name though. -
CBS: Rex could be fired, TT benched Monday with loss
Mark80 replied to NoSaint's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Finally some sense around here. EJ deserves a shot. He was rushed in, rushed out, and was a class act pro the entire time. He has shown flashes of brilliance although most around here only like to point to his minutes of calamity. I'd like to see what he can do for 3 weeks. Why rush Cardale? He'll be here next year no matter what. -
We will definitely win 2 of the last 3 games to ruin our draft pick slot. Heck, we may even win the next two games, have slim chance of getting in week 17 at 9-7 and then proceed to get blown out for an 8-8 finish.
-
No worries. I was ridiculed last year too when I said that I really liked Dak and thought he was going to be the best value pick QB wise in the draft (along with Kessler who I still like but the Browns...oh the Browns) and the Bills should take him round 3.
-
Personally, I don't think there is any way possible he makes it out of the third round when all is said and done. Well, unless there is some problem with his recovery from knee surgery.
-
His injury and off field issues drop him out of the first, not out of the second in my opinion. The talent is too good.
-
Really hope we draft Chad Kelly with our second round pick this year. Not because he is Jim Kelly's nephew and Buffalo born; to me, those are just bonuses. But because he has a tremendous arm, makes remarkable plays, has played well in big games, and he is a team leader who can fire up his teammates when needed (which is non existent with our current QB). I see a lot of Brett Favre in him, from his style of play to his fieriness and I think if we can grab one of the top WRs round 1 and him in round 2, that would be a huge win for us.

Bold moves require bold thinking.
Mark80 replied to 17 Josh Allen's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Cardalle Jones has some serious accuracy issues, even compared to TT or EJ. He had them at OSU, he had them in the camp, and he had them in the pre-season games. I don't think they have magically resolved themselves. What made him have a good run at OSU for a handful of games was the fact that defenses were keying on stopping Elliot and WRs were getting wide open. Regardless, he often still under threw them and over threw them, but the WRs made great plays. Add to that the fact that he was able to use his legs a bit at the college level. Unfortunately, he's not fast enough to do that effectively in the NFL in my opinion. I don't think he will never be a successful NFL QB. Sorry to say. -
2016 NFL Man Games Lost Due to Injury
Mark80 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree, but showing it with the player and the games missed would provide insight as to what makes up that "bubble" size, instead of just showing said bubble and taking it as a definitive result. -
Raiders will have some injured defensive players out Sunday
Mark80 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Calmer than you are, Dude. Yes, Lawson was going to be one of our top pass rushers. Probably why we took him in the first round, certainly not for his pass coverage skills. Yes, Ragland was slotted to start at MLB during training camp when he was healthy and by most accounts looked tremendous. AW compared to JJ Watt? Are you serious? How about comparing Dareus to JJ Watt? Maybe that's a bit more realistic, no? I'd sure as hell take 3 Dareus' over 1 JJ Watt. -
2016 NFL Man Games Lost Due to Injury
Mark80 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I disagree, because it misdirects people to thinking that this is a true correlation (as evidenced by you starting this thread with it and it being posted in the other thread). Man games lost is a good stat because people understand it doesn't account for quality and it's just a number that is what it is. When you start pointing to things like this, it just creates more confusion and debate. I'd like to see man games missed by player with their PFF or something to make my own conclusions. -
2016 NFL Man Games Lost Due to Injury
Mark80 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Pretty much my exact post from the other thread and spot on. Some arbitrary "bubble" does not truly reflect the quality of player missing....how does this bubble account for Lawson and Ragland who never got to play a down before being injured? Explain that to me please.
