  1. With all this talk about possibly getting a WR in the draft to be Stevie's number 2, has anyone else thought that we should stop dicking around and make Smith the man? We know he can make plays, like that spectacular deflection touchdown catch against the Jets and from what I remember when we played him in the position he did well. I'm not saying that I don't like him in the wildcat. I think he's good at using it to pick up third and short, but why can't we let him do both?
  2. I think there may be a solid chance that Nix trades down in the order for more second round picks. If someone wants Tannehill and hasn't taken him by them we might get some bargaining power. That said, if not, I think it's going to come down to the best player available at one of the many positions that we could take. I personally think that DE is going to be sewed up for now with Mario. OT is a position of concern with all the injuries we had last year. McGee is banged up and I doubt we are going to renew McKelvin, so I don't think that a CB is off the table. I would love to see Floyd as a #2 receiver to work with SJ, but I've heard reports that Nix thinks receivers are deep in the draft so he may wait for round 2.
  3. Yes, I know this is dangerously skirting the territory of being shunted to the main thread. However, I wanted to know if anyone has found a way to order a Mario Williams jersey yet. Of course, we may not even know his number yet...
  4. As much as I hate to say it, I think he has a point. It's as if we are going to be able to go "poof, suddenly we have no question marks". That said, Mario Williams is a huge improvement. With free agency, the draft, and waivers coming up I am confident that Mario Williams is the start, not the end, of our rebuilding this offseason.
  5. How about "The Three Stampede"? No, that won't work. These three would do more damage than a bison stampede...
  6. Important question: how much cap room do we have now?
  7. *Now* can we start saying Nix is a good job? Or should be wait until the press conference is over to wait if MW bolts?
  8. If we could get manningham now, could we have Super Mario Brothers?
  9. Hey, the more money the Jags are spending the less they can offer Mario Williams.
  10. None of the above. Take someone in the draft.
  11. Ok yeah, we need to get a grip. We really do... AHHH CAN'T HELP IT! I'M GOING CRAZY! F5! F5! F5!
  12. I would agree. If we pull these two in, it would sap up a whole lot of cap space and leave us barely enough for our draft picks. But it would so be worth it.
  13. Eh, I'm ok with this. That was more than he was worth to us.
  14. I would agree. Granted, this is a pretty big if. A REALLY big if. But if Nix pulls it off, if he does indeed manage to get Williams to sign he will have corrected one of our biggest weaknesses with a superstar player, leaving us to concentrate on other weaknesses during the draft. I'm picturing the line with Dareus, K. Williams, M. Williams and a healthy Merriman and getting chills. Hey, I can dream can't I?
  15. Well, they couldn't have picked a better day to woo him to come here weather-wise. That said SIGN HIM NOW!!! Seriously, if in the contract Nix has to act as the man's footstool for a night, we should take him.
  16. Really good call there. Granted, I'm not sure the Bills have had luck with getting guys back from an ACL, but if we are looking for a low risk, low cost acquisition I'm all for it. Granted, if we can get ONE sure thing I'll be very happy.
  17. Ok, I agree that Fitz is not the ultimate endgame solution. I don't think we're ever going to put a franchise tag on him. He is, to be blunt, an average NFL quarterback. But amidst all the problems which you mentioned (a lack of a pass rush, weakness at LT, our depleted receiver core, a group of CB's who get consistently burned). The Bengals, Ravens and Broncos all had average or worse QB's and they still made the playoffs, so I would rather fix those other things first.
  18. Again, an interesting take on the WR situation. I would like to see us pick someone up. We never really added anyone after Lee Evans was released. (as good of a decision as that was) I think a hallmark of our spread offense is that we don't have to have a ton of amazing recievers. I would like to see our second pick be a WR if we pick up a DE in FA or third round otherwise.
  19. Yes, assuming that. But this way, the Jets are taking a chance with Sanchez as opposed to a chance with Manning. And if he doesn't go the Phins then we only have to worry about possibly playing him once this year.
  20. Just wondering what people here consider the most important position that we need to improve this offseason. To me, I have to say Defensive End (no duh), but I can see cases for boosting our O-line, picking up a corner to help an aging and oft injured McGee and a likely to be cut McKelvin and taking a 2nd or 3rd round receiver to help out Fitz.
  21. Personally, if I am Buddy Nix I would seriously consider this if we go in with an understanding of what we're getting. Freeney has played for the Colts his entire career, and we're looking to grab him in his last year. I don't think that we are going to keep him for very long if we get him. Now, if we want to use his time to develop newly drafted DE's or try to try to get a preexisting player to take the spot I would be for it. But really, who do we have now? We have Kelsey and Merriman as DE's but I'm not going to say that either of them are going to put the fear of God into anyone. We get him now, and consider it a one year boost like taking TO or let him know flat out that we would have to take a sizable pay cut.
  22. I'm happy to hear this, especially with worrying if they were going to be part of the Peyton Manning sweepstakes. The Jets do have some talented receivers and having Manning could have been a problem. But with the money they just paid, I don't think they have the cap room.
  23. I think he'd be a solid choice. I would support giving up some draft picks, maybe a third this year and a second next. Just not our first rounder really, just so that we could get him.
