  1. Not sure about the bit about our cornerbacks being "underrated", but the other points work well. We also are supposed to be playing a soft schedule, and with Fitz, Freddy and Stevie all signed, an improving O-line which doesn't have a single player over 30, we finally have some sense of continuity.
  2. AMEN! Seriously, we got Freddy locked up and we did it fairly cheap. Thus far, this offseason is the best I can remember in over a decade.
  3. Personally, I was expecting McGee to get the axe. But with what we are saving on cap space i can hardly doubt the decision. Both he and McGee were getting burned constantly. Now I'm positive the Gilmore will be one of our starting two.
  4. The guy's stats look alright. Who knows how many takes those tricks took though? If he looks alright at the minicamp, I trust our coaches to make the call.
  5. You took the words out of my mouth. If Thigpen wasnt considered an option to back up a clearly struggling and suffering Fitz, how is he an answer? VY may not be the answer, but Thigpen definitely isn't. If we get him for a fair deal, I think we'll have had an offseason to remember.
  6. Well, if our time withou Lindell has taught us anything is that a half decent kicker is a gist.
  7. Pretty much agree there. Every pick wound up being a position of need. Our first pick was the best available, the second was a steal that could have been taken 20 spots up, picks 4-6 all seem solid and our last few...well, it's late fifth to seventh so if they pan out, great. If they don't, oh well.
  8. Yes. But realistically speaking, I think they did a bang up job.
  9. Well played But seriously, I think we all have to remember something: no matter who is picked, there is no saying for sure until they take the field whether or not a pick will boom or bust. If you watched the Draft's list of the last times QB's were taken 1-2, a fair number of them never panned out. Keeping that in mind, I think we have at least three players who will get a lot of time. I don't know if Gilmore will be 1 or 2, but I bet he plays nickel. I'm positive that Glenn will be somewhere on the O-line, and the fact that he can play at guard too only makes him more valuable. #2 receiver is an open ball game, and with the spread offense (and our prodigious WR injury rate) being the 5th WR means you'll be on the field.
  10. Not the sexiest of picks, but I will NOT complain about added depth to the O-line.
  11. I think this pick is looking a year or two down the road for our CB situation. Florence has two years left, and McKelvin and McGee each have one. Now, with some difficulty, I can forsee McKelvin proving himself useful enough to stay on down the depth chart. I cannot say that for McGee, who is now 8 years past his Pro Bowl season and isn't getting any quicker.
  12. I definitely wouldn't be surprised if he challenged for the starting job. Merriman is going to the DE spot, and we have Barnett in the middle, after that it's only Sheppard, Moats and Morrison. We were thin, and I love that replay of the hit, especially after it shows that he nailed the guy fair and square.
  13. Never heard of him. But Nix said "speedy reciever", so I guess Roscoe v 2.0 isn't too much of a surprise.
  14. At the price of a 7th round pick to move up three spots, that's a bargain. Must be someone we like.
  15. I'm going to have to say B+, simply for scale. Minnesota and New England kind of wrecked the curve when Minny smokescreened people well enough that they actually made someone bite for the number #3 and THEN got the person they would have got at three, and NE (already a strong team) burned the later picks they don't need to shore up some of their few problems. We did good, taking a highly talented player in a position of need without reaching. They did spectacular.
  16. I'd be ok with that. Now that we don't have to worry about our first pick being an immediate playmaker, I'd be all for it if Glenn doesn't fall enough.
  17. I do wonder if Gilmore might be crazy introverted. People have been going crazy that he didn't smile when picked, but after listening to an interview with him this morning I'm not so sure. He spoke really softly and seemed at a loss for words when asked about his reaction to the Bills but eased up when talking about the SEC. I thought he might not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but that's belied by graduating high school early and being on the honor roll. With what one of the Gamecock fans said on here about a small cracked smile being as emotive as he's ever seen, it made me think "Hey, that's exactly what *I* do" If that's the case it's no big deal. Just an observation.
  18. This. The one thing a really good D-line *can't* help with are really quicks throws to receivers. When we're playing pass heavy teams (like the Pats) you'll get burned. The D-line will help a great deal on long drops and runs up the middle, and from the sound of it Gilmore has practice hitting RB's too.
  19. Ction Listened to him on WGR this morning, and he seemed really quiet and reserved. I think this accounts for what looked like a lack of reaction. As for his play, i think he's a lock to be our nickel corner. He apparently is great in zone coverage. I think he's going to take some time before he is a starting 1 or 2 CB but since we were in the nickel half of the time last season I think we are going to see a lot of him.
  20. I would take best OT available, and I agree with the "Cash in some of those later picks for another second rounder" mentality. We are a team which thrives on the spread offense, and I feel more comfortable with getting a WR off of waivers or free agency than I would a tackle.
  21. I want to give the man a shot, but the fact that he hasn't played a down in two years of the NFL is somewhat troubling. Now, last season he left because he needed heart surgery. That really isn't a good indicator of how he gets injured. At the same time, what happens if his heart has problems again? I would like to have someone else in to compete for the #2 slot.
  22. I would agree! I was shocked that each of them made it through. People were saying that Martin at #41 would never happen. It doesn't seem quite as far fetched now, and I'm a whole lot more comfortable trading for second round picks than I am first.
  23. I'm a little shaky on our LB situation...but yeah, I think that Williams and Gilmore will be the successors of McGee and Florence. With that pair, plus the front four of Williams^2, Dareus, Anderson and Merriman I think we have fixed a lot of our biggest problems.
