  1. #Bills DC Mike Pettine: "With pass happy league, our 3rd down [nickel] defense will likely be our base package."@WGRZ pic.twitter.com/ciUWvGTT Interesting. Who would we be putting where? If we're basing everything around the nickel, we'd probably need to sink some extra talent into our DBs.
  2. I wouldn't be surprised if we bring him back, We could get him rather cheap and he's quality backup material now.
  3. According to Scout.com he's 6-3, 215 pounds and runs a 4.4 He would probably be a lower round pick simply because he's only coming in at one year of experience but man he has a gift for getting open, and he can block. If he's there after we address QB and LB I would say "all hands on deck" Get 'er done Buddy!
  4. Figures that it's the guy with the Phish logo who says that Of course, if the incident causes his stock to drop to, say, the third round then I would be all for it. That way, we'd have two of the famed LSU CB's.
  5. Looks like he threw one deep... Man, I know there's a better football pun in there somewhere
  6. Seems like a phenomenal trade for both sides. The Jets immediately get a passable QB and can afford to release Sanchez and Tebow to soften the cap hit while avoiding the inevitable Revis holdout and deal reshuffling. SF gets to end the QB controversy and acquires a star player for their DB corps. And if I were Alex Smith, I would request to be released as well.
  7. It would if we were going on a "Suck for Manziel" run. Of course, I would be jubilant if we took a stub LB in the first, Nassib in the second, with both playing up to All Pro levels their first year. In fact, this is what I prefer, but I was trying to play devil's advocate.
  8. Ok, I will say one thing: If there WAS a Andrew Luck, RGIII or even Tannehill ready right now, I think we would be in pretty good shape to risk everything. What would I say to you guys if I said: we're going to have one more year of Fitz, while tendering long term contracts to Byrd and Levitre, while continuing to break in Gilmore, Glenn and Dareus. We're going to have a year where our players adjust to a new scheme, and have some problems with it, just like we did when G Williams and Chan came onboard. With that, next year Johnny Manziel becomes draft eligable and we risk the farm on him to take a Heismann winner, What would you guys say to that?
  9. Would I like to have him? Hell yes. It would immediately solve the CB problem and give us one of the best tandems in the NFL. That said, do I expect it to happen? No. 1) Since it's a trade, the Jets would set the asking price much higher for a divisional foe. It would make more sense to find an offer out of division, or even the conference. 2) Unless his deal was restructured, there would be immediate problems with the cap, especially if we want to fix other positions. Add on the factor of his contract being up in a year and keeping him would be costly. 3) He doesn't want to leave NY. Sending him to Buffalo, where he would have to play with the team that he wants to be on twice a year does not bode well. That said, maybe he would like the familiar face of Pettine (I really don't know) and having him be on any team other than one in our division is a plus. If I would want to make the trade...well, what do we think is fair? The Jets are only one pick behind us, so they would likely love to pick 8 & 9. I would only be for it, if somehow we could trade back to late first round, where I would feel comfortable picking up a QB.
  10. This time last year I kept thinking, "Man, if I'm Chan Gailey I'm sitting down and figured how best to use Fred Jackson and CJ Spiller since they're the most dynamic players on this team." Quite obviously, this never happened. But now with Marrone and Hackett, they are going to be bringing in a new style of offense. (Oh for the love of crap please let them bring in a new style of offense) We still have Spiller and Jackson on contract, so we can keep them for a while if we so choose. I've waxed eloquent about their relative strengths and weaknesses before, but now that we have a whole offseason with a brand new point of view coming in I'm curious to see what people will think. Personally, I'm hoping for a two back system and if anyone knows where this has successfully been run (either in the pros or in college) I would love to hear about it, especially since it looks very likely that we'll have a rookie QB under center for us.
  11. So, so Bo is faster. This might piss some people here off but...so what? Pure speed isn't the end all be all. In fact, let's point to what made Spiller great last season: he stopped trying to constantly go to the outside. He got more patient with his blocks, so that once he had an opening he could get that wonderful acceleration.
  12. OK! Enough with debating the existence of God on here. If the most brilliant philosophers and scientists can't hash it out, I doubt we're going to on a football forum. I'm not going to lie, I'm not a fan of people screaming their faith in such a public way, and any god that cares more about who wins a football game more than billions of sick, starving and dying people has F@*&%D UP PRIORITIES. But I think people are going to be more forgiving to Lewis, because whether you think he got away with a crime, the man is an excellent football player. And Tebow is a below average football player.
  13. Well Byrd has now been officially invited. The man was due.
  14. Going for a planted knee on a sliding kick puts a large amount of momentum at a single point end while aiming for a vulnerable spot. Kicking out someone's knee of the ground is a serious self-defense move. If it connected it could have done serious harm.
  15. "Daddy! The man took my ball." followed by either "That's because you threw it to him." or "Balls son. He took your balls."
  16. Whoo! Of course, they only are in because the Ravens are in the Super Bowl but I'll take it. But really, why the hell are we playing the Pro Bowl before the Super Bowl when many of the best players in the game won't be there? I know it wasn't always like this, and I can't remember why they changed it.
  17. Now that I can see the play again, I can definitely see grounds to call out Brady for a penalty. I don't think it would have done much as to how the game played out, but it still does piss me off that Brady never does seem to have anything negative stick to him. If you whiff him immediately after he's thrown the ball, it's a roughing the passer. When he kicks someone, he's defending himself. I can remember when he first came back from injury in the 2009 opener. When we were getting pressure and running the ball well the talk was not about how well the Bills were playing it was how poorly Brady was. When he got better, the announcers immediately jumped back on the wagon. After he threw 4 INTs in his loss to the Bills two years ago the talking heads went on about how he didn't "play bad" and that he was just "unlucky". In the pregame one of the guys (can't remember who) declared Brady the best QB ever. Now, as much as I bitterly hate the man, I have to admit he's good. But better than Joe Montanna? Better than Aaron Rodgers, Brett Farve, Drew Brees, and the Mannings? Maybe, but they constantly put him on a pedestal.
  18. OK, I'm ready for this story to die. Quite simply, I don't care. No money was scammed. Even if he was in on it from the beginning (which at the moment it doesn't look like it did), he didn't get the Heismann for it. He didn't get any endorsements from it. As far as I can tell, no laws or NCAA rules have been broken. If we question his character, that's a worthy question. We can also question whether there are holes in his game as seen in the Alabama game. If we have an issue with that, fine. If not, let's move on.
  19. Does anyone actually have any FACTS or PROOF one way or the other? Because it seems like in two days all we've gotten is conjecture.
  20. I have to say, this is probably the best thought out of the cut lists. There are definitely people who are not worth what we are paying. That said, I'm also going to believe that Fitz will be gone as well. This is not to knock Fitz (who I think is a good man, just not our guy), but Marrone comes from an upbeat, uptempo offense and is being handed the keys to a team over which it seems he will have a great deal of control. If I had the chance to make my mark in my first NFL HC debut, I would want MY choice heading the team, even if it didn't come down to the numbers.
  21. This...this is too f*cking bizarre for me to handle. I have to wait for the whole story to come out. SI did a piece on this thing after all, so if it is indeed a hoax it was a pretty well crafted one. So yeah...maybe he'll fall to the third round now?
  22. Almost sure to happen. The biggest point in commonality I see is that both cities love to grouse about their football teams.
  23. It's interesting to note that he doesn't have a QB on the board yet (though he promises that he will) Would it be worth it to pick up Teo if we could also get Geno Smith/Matt Barclay, the guys who the "take a QB in the first" group have held as their star examples?
  24. Huh, how about that? I'm living in Philly, and the sports writers were tearing into the Eagles GM because they let Chip Kelly walk away. I guess they'll just have to be chewing on another type of bird then... Seriously though, maybe it's living in Philly but I can't hate the Eagles. They too have suffered years of failure with a highly touted roster, have/had a HC and GM who the fans hate and we only play them once every three years, and unlike every other member of the NFC East they've never beaten us in a Super Bowl.
  25. This is where I was going with this. Who have we had for the last six years? Dick Jauron? Chan Gailey? Neither of these guys are firebrands. Jauron was the man with the "It's hard to win in the NFL" quote, and while Chan promised to fix that can anyone really say that we didn't look defeated through November and December?
