  1. Answer:...yes? Granted, I hope there's some way that we could get both, but Seacry could probably do as good a job as Wilson but if we're going to have to pick between the two I think you have to go with the talent that you developed on your own. If it's an "either or" I stick with Byrd, but I'm hoping Pettine has some magic.
  2. I am excited to hear it. My one concern is that I fail to understand the appeal of competition where the losers still take up incredible amounts of cap space. Fitz is set to make 10 mil, even if most of his cap space is dead money now, and TJax got 4.5 million. That pretty much undoes all of the money we got back from Barnett, Wilson and McGee.
  3. +1. This. I don't think ANYONE suspects that Corp is going to be a starter. From what the cap reports are saying, Fitz is likely too big of a hit to simply cut, and we're likely to take a QB in the draft. Jackson and Thigpen are gone, and Marrone has zero reason to try to keep them. This is picking up a dirt cheap third stringer.
  4. No, no, no...as it turns out, the existence of Manti T'eo has been a hoax the Notre Dame has created just to screw with everyone. They just had no idea they would have the #1 seed and it would get this elaborate.
  5. For a top end SS? That would likely be the asking price if we went looking for FA.
  6. Can't hurt now that TJack and Thigpen are likely being kicked to the curb.
  7. It's a shame after all the good years, but I was shocked when he wasn't released last year. The cuts continue...
  8. Sounds like a sucker bet to me. I would be absolutely shocked if Geno Smith made it past 10, especially considering that even if the Chiefs, Cardinals and Eagles let him to drop to us, and then WE pass, I doubt the Jets would.
  9. I think we should be more worried about the Chiefs taking him. I don't think there's a chance in hell that he falls past the Chiefs, Raiders AND Cardinals (who have QB problems worse than ours). The Eagles MAY want to pick up a new QB as well. The only team which (as far as I know) isn't in desperate need are the Lions, who pick at 5 and anyone below us will have a lot better pick leverage. Remember the high cost of getting RGIII? If Smith falls to 8, great. If not, I think Wilson is a great choice.
  10. Thanks a great deal to Tim Graham! That's a great bit of research. I'm rather ok with transplanting a good chunk of our defense with the Jets players, even the ones they cut for cap space. Both Landry and Bell would be great additions, and Bart Scott would be a "junk for junk" swap with Barnett. If there is a single coach I have absolute faith it, it's Pettine, and I'm giddy to see what he can do.
  11. I won't believe it until I actually see him on the roster. Even then I don't think I'll believe it.
  12. True, but after the years of injuries, the Bills were the only ones willing to take a chance on him last year and Moore was brought in on the cheap. We could probably snap them both up with what we save on Kelsay. Better quality for the same cost.
  13. I don't think that it's because Kelsay is bad. I think the problem is that he isn't great, and commands a high salary for a backup DE when we already have WIlliams, Anderson, Merriman and Moore. Marrone just showed his willingness to cut less cap impactful players in areas where we were already frighteningly thin so it seems somewhat mystifying that Kelsay isn't part of the movement.
  14. Agreed. McGee has lost his step. It is a little baffling to me that we're willing to get rid of these two and Kelsay isn't going yet. We have a lot of dead wood, but I'm not seeing a ton of room for replacements.
  15. Well, I guess one thing we have to say is that next year won't be same old, same old.Of course, this does beg the question of "How the hell are we going to fill all of these holes?" There's no way that we're going to be able to fill all holes with the draft, and we don't have a ton to spend on free agency.
  16. I've heard of him...F5!!! But seriously, it may be worth looking into. He's not the prototypical #1 wideout by any means, but we're so thin at WR, and we won't be bringing Jones back that he might be worth it, warts and all. EDIT: NOPE!!! I read the article, and they were talking about a $10 million per year to extend him. Considering the holes to fill all over, and his attitude, it's not worth it.
  17. I agree. I think Spiller proved last season that he's the future at running back. Am I happy to have Freddy back? Hell yes, especially if he can return to form from two seasons ago. But he's going to be 32 by next season, and keeps getting hurt. He said he was ready to go last season as well, and it didn't appear to be true, Still, if Marrone and Hackett have half a brain between them (which apparently Chan didn't), they'll be spending the offseason drawing up plays where they can use both Spiller and Jackson well together.
  18. Eeek. That's a bit less than what we were expecting. Still, it does my heart good to see the Jets at the bottom of that list. Maybe we can peel off a couple of their defensive players..after we re-sign Byrd and Levitre.
  19. I'm kind of going "eh, no great loss". I mean, I don't hate the guy but I don't think anyone was standing up and saying "Yes, we should invest heavily to keep Donald Jones." As a Kool-Aid drinker, this is making me think that we're going to be going after a veteran WR, either through the waiver wire, trade or free agency. We have enough positions to fill that if we are willing to let another person walk, we have to have some plan in order to fill it. We would likely have needed to draft another WR anyway, and I don't see us striking gold twice, especially after needing to fill pressing needs of a QB and a major upgrade at LB.
  20. I think it's worth bearing in mind that we have, on more than one occasion, moved heaven and earth to get a quarterback as our second pick overall. Sometimes, this hasn't worked out (JP Losman) but there is one big exception: Jim Kelly.
  21. This puts as as the team with the 7th highest cap room, and puts us on the top end of the middle of the pack (yes, I'm mixing metaphors) so, really, there is no excuse for failing to resign both Byrd and Levitre. With the expected cuts of Kelsay and McGee, I could see us signing McKelvin at rock bottom prices (who is going to pay much more) and I would love to see Buddy play the waiver wire one more time to bring in a half decent WR before the draft.
  22. I feel like I need to have a machine playing the "wa-waaaaaa" sound effect on a loop here. Maybe he's backup material with what we have now but I'd rather see what we can do with Glenn.
  23. Agreed. This has "Jets" written all over it.
  24. I doubt that Byrd's slot is in line for an upgrade but I bet that the rest of the DB's could use an upgrade. After reading the description of the 3-3-5 defense (the 3-4 variation of the Nickel) I think might have an idea of what Pettine might be trying to run: To me that sounds similar to what Pettine was talking about by saying "not a true 4-3, or 3-4" and bringing constant pressure.
  25. Having seen his highlight reel, I would be a lot more comfortable with Wilson than with Nassib. You want to talk about how his hands are too small? Maybe, but he can still throw the ball on the money. It's insane, watching those throws after years of Lossman, Edwards and Fitz.
