I know not everyone will like this idea, but I have a feeling that in the wake the changes and knowing that we might need a reshuffle year that Brady and McDermott are looking at the builds that Johnson and Shanahan did with less skilled QBs. Shanahan made his bones as a TE heavy attack, and moved to condensed formations (that Brady used) for two purposes: https://www.mercurynews.com/2024/02/07/why-the-49ers-use-this-type-of-formation-more-than-anyone/ A) To limit the safety shell coverage and B) Prevent off the line jams to get his WRs free Any of that sound familiar? Ohhhh noooo, the Bills no longer have a top 5 WR and so they are using the system that made Brock Purdy an MVP candidate. I can see why people are furious about it,

Started watching. Keon is a great interview So far, no matter what happens I don't see him digging it on the field or in practice. I think that's why the Bills went there rather than AD Mitchell

I'll have to listen to this later (probably when prepping food for tomorrow) but it matches what I saw in the press conference. We will see about his football ability, but he seems grounded and has a wry wit that I can appreciate

Josh Working With WR’s Beyond OTAs/Camp

Honestly I think he's funnier than Gronk. He's got a surprisingly wry sense of humor in that press conference. -

Is it about their golf swings? I hear that's all that Josh cares about. That and his hot actress girlfriend -
Hear hear. Keenan Allen ran a 4.7. Tell me you don't want an in prime Keenan Allen. Now there are question marks but that was everyone after the top 3. Are teams putting their fastest corners on him? Great, they're not in Shakir and Samuel. Start him at X and let him box out #2 CBs until they send a safety over to clean up

I'm increasingly feeling better about the pick. How will it all work? I had no idea. But I see pieces

Rd 4, Pick 128: RB Ray Davis, Kentucky
WhitewalkerInPhilly replied to section122's topic in The Stadium Wall
I'm not saying that Davis is going to take over for Cook. As far as I'm concerned Cook has earned starting as our focal point. But Cook isn't a bell cow. Johnson was good in a pinch but there were a bunch of times down the stretch where Murray was the passing RB option and the result was pretty abysmal. David is worth a shot just to avoid that. -
IfAt this point the answer is on the roster or we wait until 25. If Coleman is more Keenan Allen than Kelvin Benjamin. If Shakir is ready to step up to be a younger Diggs. If Samuel can be the Curtis Samuel mold. If we can get something out of Shorter.. If Kincaid can take a major role in the game plan. If Brady can make it work

Any line on that being him? Because as a low cost "see what he's got in the tank" I can think of worse. 6'3, 200 lbs, 4.3 speed, special teams experience and a 1000 yard season in 2019. He's had a stretch of some injuries, but has had abysmal luck with teams. The last three years have been, in order Urban Meyer Jags Detroit right as they started getting consistency The 2023 Panthers And he still managed 500 yard seasons the last two years. It's worth seeing if there is some gas in the tank

Beane: "This team is in transition"
WhitewalkerInPhilly replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall
Brass tacks: last year the Bills were a top 3rd oldest team and finished $40 M over the cap. While Beane could have kept kicking the can down the road, a purge would have happened sooner or later. I love DaQuan but we can't keep relying on vet depth year after year, especially with contracts like Von and Diggs on the book this year. Short term, the Bills are worse off. But if half to a third of the mid round picks hit it's a great investment -

Small school, undersized it looks like. If he is our new Hughes I don't care -

IOL depth? Yes please. Beane might be need shopping but he's at least getting roughly market value on each pick -
Rd 4, Pick 128: RB Ray Davis, Kentucky

I've said it a second ago, the Niners and Lions have made Jared Goff and Brock Purdy offensive powerhouses Ground and pound doesn't need to be Rex Ryan, we can get innovative -

WhitewalkerInPhilly replied to section122's topic in The Stadium Wall
Look, we see what defenses around the league are doing. Dallas is the logical conclusion of the trend where seemingly everyone , Bills included, are going lighter on D. Who are the buzziest names as offensive innovators? Kyle Shanahan and Ben Johnson. Each of whom has a punishing run game, use a fullback and use tight ends. -

Midround RB to pair with Cook. I am seeing a bruising, mauling offense shape up -
I'm stunned that he's dropped to the 4th round. I remember early mocks where people were cheering the idea of Franklin dropping to us at 28. Clearly something is warning teams off but I have no idea what

I think the point Sal is making is that no one is just handing Bishop the starting job day 1. He's going to need to win it from Rapp, Edwards, Hamlin and Lewis. Now, I think he beats one of the handily.

Rd 2, Pick 33: WR Keon Coleman, Florida State
WhitewalkerInPhilly replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall
The pick is slowly growing on me, especially with some of the vision of how I expect the offense to function going in. For a little while now I've been envisioning a TE first passing attack, supplemented by the run game. We have some great YAC guys in Shakir and Samuel. In fact, Shakir is scarily close to Diggs in height and weight, and the strength of both is their route running. Down the stretch Shakir was the more reliable target. The thing the team DIDN'T have was the 'Power Forward '. I can't preach "I don't care about track speed, I want game speed" with my dislike of Worthy and Legette and then poo poo someone with the fastest gauntlet split. I watch Coleman's returns and what I see isn't game breaking speed, it's vision and the ability to cut to hit a lane. I care about that more. Am I skeptical? Yes. Would I have preferred Odunze or BTJ? Hell yes. But that would have come at the cost of having no backup plan for a bunch of aging vets. I*like* Da'Quan and AJ and Douglas. They are unlikely to be on the team in 2 seasons. This is the time to get younger and build another window I can see a plan for the offense. I might not have gone the same choices, but I can see Brady moving to his own thing -

I'll tell you what, if Day 3 starts with word that the Bills have traded a bunch of 5ths and next year's 2nd (keeping the pick we got for Diggs) for Courtland Sutton I will feel a whole lot better
