  1. This is a quote from Urbik which stuck with me: Jeez, no wonder our offense stalled. As for the article, I've also thought of Roman is Bizarro world Chip Kelly. Both use extensively drawn plays with a lot of movement, rely on keeping opponents on the field to wear them out and are willing to forgo giant plays for a continual string of plays that get you 5 yards a pop. The difference is that Chip does it with a lightning fast passing game and spread attacks to run it from the shotgun with a one cut runner, while Roman forces 8 or 9 men in the box to give favorable passing matchups.
  2. Well, I'm not shocked since it sounded like Berman was raking the NFL over the coals. But still... A) I'd rather see zero games than one for "failing to cooperate with the investigation" only to have us get the brunt of it week 2. It seemed like it might go that way for a while. B) The decision is about process and procedure. While I wildly disagree, this is nothing to do with guilt or innocence. Brady may not serve a suspension, but he is, in the eyes of the league, still guilty. Strip him from the hall of fame.
  3. Yeah. I really doubt Whaley does that if there is any doubt Shady is at least playable. From what I saw elsewhere, they think he's going to play, but he's not at full speed yet.
  4. And you got that from his interview process?
  5. I'd be less worried if his first two starts weren't Luck and Brady. I think he has a lot of talent (the two picks against Indy) but I was really hoping that we'd be able to bring him along slowly. Would anyone be shocked if we rotated Graham or Aaron Williams back to CB and used Darby as the nickel?
  6. Well first of all, it's kind of nice to have the idea of someone poaching our OC to be a problem worth considering. I do think it's possible, and I definitely think he would take the job if offered. That said, a lot would have to happen: One, the offense would have to do well here. But then you strange paradox that, if the offense is good and the defense is as advertised, the Bills should absolutely be going deep into the playoffs and the further you go it becomes harder for you to be interviewed. Second, Roman is a run game specialist. If it's going to be effective you have to be built as a run first team with a great running back and stout defense. That will limit teams who are interested.
  7. Yeah, you were a wiser man than I. In the end, I'm satisfied with how this has played out. Tyrod may have been Rex's hopeful, but he most definitely won over the fanbase, and from what I hear, the locker room.
  8. Honestly I wouldnt be shocked if we rolled Graham or AW back out at #2 and used Darby at nickel.
  9. Preach it. I got to hear the 48 hours when he went from beloved local superstar hero to pariah. But the pressure has been on since the day we traded for him.
  10. Yeah. Billick wrote a bit for NFL which started off something like this: there are teams with quarterbacks good enough to win the championship and there are those who do not. Speaking of the latter, the Buffalo Bills announce their starting quarterback. He goes on to say that the bills are following the model of the Seattle Seahawks but lack a running back like Marshawn Lynch but may go forward with their skill players like LeSean McCoy. Brace yourself, it's bad:http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000519135/article/tyrod-taylor-over-ej-manuelmatt-cassel-right-move-for-bills
  11. Can I say that I want both to do well. I'd love to be in the Chargers position where they had both Brees and Rivers on their roster. Does anyone else remember when Buddy's line was tapped? CAN I GET AN AMEN!?!
  12. Well Tyrod was known to have a long arm already. One of the jokes was that he was the one with the perfect aim on the deep end zone post play, and could rainbow arc the ball into garbage cans. The real worry was and is his ability to make intermediate throws over the middle. But at least he can throw the long ball, which Cassel cant, and the high percentage passes Cassel was supposed to be the master of. Plus the explosiveness of his legs, which is going to mean teams more frequently go into single coverage.
  13. Ok, NOW I fully believe it. Seriously though guys, did we all watch the same games? Yeah EJ showed improvement and I hope he gets another shot with us. As people have said, Taylor carries an injury risk and it would be better to have someone with similar play style on the roster. But Taylor has looked good. Really really good, and he's done it for the most part without his best skill players. I honestly think this could be an incredible offensive to go along with our defense with him running it.Do people really think that's impossible with Tyrod running things?
  14. This is me too. I do think EJ looked a lot better and I want the Bills to keep him, but Tyrod's biggest question has never been his arm or ability to feel pressure or make plays with his legs, it was always whether he could make intermediate passes over the middle, step up I'm the pocket when he had to instead if running and go through his progressions. For certain we've seen him do the last two. Well see on the first.
  15. In all due fairness in the Cleveland game he led his his shoulder in the open field well after he got the first. But most of the time he absolutely knows when to slide or get out of bounds.
  16. It's funny, I was called earlier for stressing that Rex and Ryan's plan stresses ball control, time of possession and limiting turnovers. Still, Id have been happy with EJ but Taylor is much, much more preferable to Casssel.
  17. Well I won't shoot you but I am sad. Tyrod with the ones, but Cassel with the twos... Still, Brown called it "not surprising" so Tyrod does seem like the guy.
  18. As happy as this makes me, I won't believe it until Rex comes out and says it. Right now it's Glazer and Rap reporting on Glazer. Honestly I'm happy with how Tyrod did this preseason. What I heard at first was that he had a rocket arm and could run. The fact that we've watched him sit back in the pocket and go through progressions and hit on the high percentage throws makes me feel a hell of a lot better. And it's not Cassel. Thank God it ain't Cassel.
  19. I stand by that, if you are playing a high output offense like Brady, or the Eagles the way you beat them is to keep them off the field. You gobble up time, you get their defense on the field as break them down while keeping ours fresh. You don't get that trying because 1 out of three times you're able to connect on a deep throw.
  20. OH SWEET BUTTERY CRAP, WILL YOU STOP TWISTING MY WORDS. *deep breath* I am not against the deep ball. I am against stalling out drives. As such, I support the QB who has done the best and most consistent drive management. Taylor has done so using the run game, his legs, and decent short to intermediate passes. And there is NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT. Deep strikes are great, but if that ability comes with QB play which occasionally takes the risky play, and you start seeing three and outs/turnover risks you have to balance the risk and reward. You aren't wasting talent if you don't constantly go deep. You are if you load up on stalled drives and leave your D hanging. Edit: Regarding "longer drives which score fewer points had one caveat: Early in the game. Beating teams down early helps if you need to speed it up in the fourth.
  21. And you somehow think that this is impossible to do with Taylor? No screens, no slants, no jet sweeps, no putting Clay at LT while using 6 linemen, and having Clay be hot read off the play action? It's like we've barely been looking at G-Ro's tape.
  22. And funnily enough, he hired an OC who over the last few years had a 55-60% run play percentage. Not as skewed as we'd think but the Niners philosophy was absolutely based around the run. And you're acting as if McCoy is CJ. Yes, he dances a bit, but he's been used effectively by Reid with a fullback. Plus Karlos, plus Freddy, plus Boobie. We are built right now with a great stable of runners (when healthy) and players known for getting GREAT YAC. I heard relying on that was the plan all offseason. It's a good plan. It can work. I don't understand the sudden desire to throw it away because we had one great preseason game.
  23. I never thought I'd be coming down on FireChan's side here, but yeah, what I've been saying is the Seahawk model. It was also the 49ers model. And "heavy run game and strong defense with a streaky QB" was the Giants and Ravens model. Last year, I would have killed for a 92% completion rate, 9.4 YPA QB performance.
  24. I think you guys are taking me a bit out of context. If Fred Jackson scampers off to a long running touchdown I am sure as hell not going to ask that he walk it 20 yards back. But do you think that we are going to win in a high speed slug out with some of the more offensively minded teams? As better I feel about our quarterback situation than I did at the beginning of the offseason I still think that our best option is a control game. We have the home run playmakers who can take small short plays and turn them into big gains. That doesn't necessarily making deep throws down the field. I'll take an efficient offense moving off and that grinds the opponents down so that their dog tired later in the game. Again let's go over what Rex said when he was first hired. We are going to ground and pound. Ground and pound. Ground and pound. We will run it 50 times a game if we can. Every minute we have the offense in possession is our opponents nor scoring. A long drive for points early that's awesome well in the fourth quarter. That is my biggest objection to Cassel. cassel can sustain drives but so far he hasn't scored any points. To me Taylor is splitting the baby just right between being efficient and consistent and still giving us big play potential. IF EJ is the guy I'll be thrilled, but the talking heads are coming down on Cassel or Taylor and of those two I am sure as hello who I want starting.
