But watching Shady that night....that one play where on a third and short, when we really needed it, he was met 7 yards before the line of scrimmage. Most times, that's a crippling stop. But he broke free. The man may have run 20 yards total to get 4, but he does it when we need it the most. People who say that running backs are plug and play should ask why Whaley took 20 minutes to negotiate that deal.

I am a Chip critic, but for that year, that magic year, you had Foles able to stretch the field with Desean Jackson, a fair complement with Cooper and Ertz as secondary targets, and Shady going for a career and league best rushing attack. Tell me, with a straight face, really tell me (and I will fight on this) that we are worse off with Tyrod being handed Sammy with Woods and Clay and Shady and Karlos pounding the rock. This is not a bad thing. Super Bowls have been won with streaky QBs with a strong run game and defense, over and over again. In Philly the initiall chatter was Bradford and a second for Foles...and there was much rejoicing, because Bradford and a second and a first might have been enough for Mariota. And then the real deal broke and there was much weeping.

I just looked at Peters numbers. In 8 games, as opposed to Darby's 9, he's had at 60% completion rate as less than 50% for Darby. A 101.7 QB rating against, vs. 51.5 for Darby. Seven, seven, seven touchdowns allowed by Peters as opposed to zero by Darby. Yet Peters is getting more DROY votes. It's staggering.

To be fair, the Jets receivers let him down in a big way: a lot of drops, some bad route running, and their top 2 got beat all day by Darby and Gilmore. Their best luck waa picking on Darby in the middle of the field against backup safeties. But Fitz did plenty to hurt himself, like calling that pass behind the line of scrimmage vs Darby, and making a number of risky throws, two of which went for interceptions. The Jets schedule gets a lot tougher as they prepare to face us again I'm the finale. I really think it might come down to that game for one or both teams.

Remember when so many of us initially freaked out over drafting a CB? Honestly I don't know of Gilmore learned as quickly as Darby has. They're both great, and you can certainly argue that Gilmore is better right now, but the fact that Darby is this good 9 games into the season as a mid 2nd round pick really says a lot about Whaley's knack for finding hidden gems.

All we've been hearing about being a "player's coach" is how it excuses bringing in "troublesome players" and causes discipline problems. But this article brings up something else: While the press was hounding Rex about making IK a Captain, and talking about him with a Clemson helmet on, and his twitter fuel that was less time talking about his players. Really, this is what I want to see more of now that Harvin is gone. Both Clay and Karlos can handle fullback duty in a pinch for power running, Shady has shown to be effective on short passes and screens so you can certainly run 3x1 trip sets to force defenses to show how they are covering Sammy.

Do we want to include O-line and D-line in there? Those are my main concerns.

I watched the Eagles play them early this season. The Eagles continue to struggle mightily with consistency on offense but, the Jets were bad, really bad, on defense that day. The first half was a slaughterfest, and the Eagles could have put up more points in the second half had it not been for a number of drops and Bradford getting twitchy.

His last long term contract was $12 million over 3 years, and that was 4 years ago. He's still playing at a high level. I'd be ok with a similar length and either slightly less money with a signing bonus, maybe $3.75M a year. It can't be worse than Harvin's deal.

Again...wow. I'm going to expect this to get drowned out pretty fast but I'll say this: Stevie was the best and most exciting offensive player for us for a while there. You don't put up numbers like that in consecutive seasons by sucking, and I'd argue that he'd be a better #2 now than Woods. He was never physically the best, never the tallest, never the quickest, never the strongest, never the best route runner, but he ground it out every game and knows how to play corners.

I agree that my biggest fear is tearing us so art underneath on screen passes. Fitz was always good at that. The good news is that I mostly trust Darby and Gilmore on Decker and Marshall, maybe with a safety shadowing Darby. I'd imagine trying to play a lot of nickel. Ivory is banged up and without Mangold they're not getting the push up the middle. I'm hoping Kyle can somehow make it back.
