SI.com 2009 Draft steals and reaches
Captain Caveman replied to AlbanyBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm sure that a lot more steals turn out to be busts than HOFers. Stop saying stupid things. -
If Jones was even halfway decent, Cinci would have kept him. He's not making all that much in salary right now. I think it was scheduled to be 3-4 mil, which is nothing if they thought he was good enough even compete for the starting rt job.

ROUND 6: (Speculation)
Captain Caveman replied to Glass To The Arson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I wouldn't mind seeing Cadogan. -
And we wonder why the Bills suck!?
Captain Caveman replied to DaGimp's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, god forbid we hire someone who cares about what he does, and works his ass off, rather than has a job handed to him 'cause he used to coach / play at such and such football school. -
I know we have more pressing needs than RB (it's probably our deepest position), but it's nice to read about this guy. He seems to be the anti-Marshawn in terms of character, and is also a heckuva player, as anyone who watched him run all over UB in the International Bowl would tell you. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/04/20/sports/n...all/20brown.htm

Did it come across like I was trying to argue that JJ being placed on IR year after year was a good thing? Because I wasn't.
-
He'll be 32 this season, and has been put on IR in 3 of the last 4 seasons, missing major time in each of those. I have no problem with giving him a shot at veteran minimum, but I wouldn't expect much to come out of it.

Don't trade Parrish!!
Captain Caveman replied to TC in St. Louis's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I just laughed milk through my nose. -
I agree that Parrish has been a top return man for us, but it's also worth mentioning that pretty much all of our returners since 2004 have done very well. For example, last year, Fred Jackson's avg gain per punt return was 1 yard better than Parrish. I think it's a credit to our Special Teams coaching / blocking, and I'd be surprised if you see a big drop off with McKelvin or someone else back there this year. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/teams/stats?team=buf#return As a WR, for whatever reason, they just don't seem to be getting him the ball enough for him to really make a difference on offense, whether that's coaching, or his inability to get open I don't know. Also, remember he had a DUI last year, maybe the Bills are concerned that he hasn't made enough of a lifestyle change and are worried about losing him to a suspension. (Pure speculation on my part, but given the current environment, it wouldn't surprise me.)

that. I started working for my present company in 2004 as a temp, just helping out wherever they needed it. Within 6 months, they saw something in me and gave me a promotion / raise. They then trained me on the job for bigger and better things. Since then, I've had one more raise, but I did some research and found that someone else in my position could be making a hell of a lot more (hmm, this starting to sound like someone else.) The differences are 1. I'm not making millions (although I make more than a decent living) and 2. I'm grateful for the opportunities I've been given, and am not planning on holding them to the fire for another 30% raise, though I could easily get it if I went to another company.

Clayton says Bills likely not done dealing
Captain Caveman replied to jahnyc's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm not sure that's accurate. 1.5 million is listed as the prorated portion of his signing bonus. 1 mil in salary, and 500,000 for a roster bonus. So we save 1.5 mil if we trade him in actual cash. -
Jests complain about schedule for religious reasons
Captain Caveman replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The only ticket holders in NYC are season ticket holders. There are no individual game tickets available, except for buying from a broker or individual season ticket holder. Still I think it's kind of stupid to be complaining about it. If you're truly devoted to your religion, you shouldn't be concerned with a religious holiday coinciding with a football game. If you're not devoted to your religion, put a sock in it. -
Madden Retiring from broadcasting
Captain Caveman replied to Captain Quint's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, but most people who reach this level of success also fly, which reduces the strain on family life. Madden doesn't fly, and having to travel by bus each week to every game means that he wasn't home for pretty much 17 straight weeks every year. -
Can Jon Runyan play guard?
Captain Caveman replied to JuanGuzman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think you were being sarcastic, but how exactly do you include a free agent in a trade? -
Ferragamo or Mathison?
Captain Caveman replied to metzelaars_lives's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm pretty sure it also started before voluntary workouts. -
Who's Going To Fill The Hole At LT?
Captain Caveman replied to H2o's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Peters was on the practice squad in his first year and took over the RT spot in his second. -
Preston's Comments on the Bills as a Packer
Captain Caveman replied to LynchMob23's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I wonder if he's counting last year's debacle where he single-handedly robbed us of any momentum in the New England game as a victory, since we had a chance to win it if he hadn't been around? Actually we probably would have found a way to lose it anyway, but I'm not sure where else he's getting that NE victory from. I don't have a problem with guys who leave the Bills telling it like it is (I happen to be a big fan of Ross Tucker's column, and on a few occasions he's shared some dirt on the Bills.) But to criticize your former team for their lack of competiveness when it took you four years to crack the starting lineup, and then only due to complete incompetence by the incumbent starter? That's just ridiculous. I also realize that this is mostly just a PR move by Preston, guys always spout this kind of stuff about how they're happy to join their new team, about how much more competitve they're going to be, etc.... -
Informed Speculation - Buffalo Rumblings
Captain Caveman replied to BillsNYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Like the kind of idiot that leaves College early for the draft, then goes undrafted? Sounds about right if you ask me. -
Dare to Dream...Again?
Captain Caveman replied to Impartial Marshall's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
1. Go yourself. 2. How could they set the conditions you've mentioned which specify the years of service. Is KC going to wait 3 years to get their draft picks? -
I was hoping that's what this thread would be about.

NPR talking about Travis Henry right now
Captain Caveman replied to Pete's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He'll probably be in prison for most of it anyway. I'd say that his debt is the least of his worries. -
Compensatory picks are out
Captain Caveman replied to DanInSouthBuffalo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Did you read his post? That's exactly what he was saying. -
Actually, they pretty much already use the same language on getting a refund when you buy DirecTV equipment / service. The practical way to determine if you can't get service is to try and buy it. Someone comes to your house to hook it up, and if they're unable to get signal, you'll get some paperwork which says so. I'm pretty sure they're not going to be selling Sunday Ticket to anyone unless you've tried, and been unable to get normal DirecTV service.
