  1. piss-poor twist at political humor! What if that was your son who died; no matter how big of an @$$hole he could have been you'd feel sadden. So save your comments and show some compassion for once in your life!

I for one feel terrible for his friends and family.

BUT it bothers me how the media and the NFL are painting a picture of him as a remodeled human being. I believe Marvin Lewis referred to him as a "beacon of light." Now this young man may very well have been making strides in reforming his behavior, but he clearly wasn't there yet. This is a tragic story, but something that he brought upon himself. The way the media is portraying him is downright irresponsible...

  2. I think we should hire Flutie as our HC and bring in Bruce as DC. This would break the curse and bring in people who know what it feels like to win! May not be alot of coaching expirience but hell what do we have to lose. I am all about throwing the hail mary and who better to do it than the man to complete the greatest hail mary of all time!

We have to change the uniforms to break the curse. The Bills haven't sniffed the playoffs since changing to the Donahoe era unis! REVERSE the curse!!!

  3. He really tried hard?

He was never a student of the game. His glaring weakness was his inablility to recognize what was happening around him. Yet he was never a guy who wholed himself up in the film room, like Manning and Brady do. He was an intramural football superstar who, I'm assuming, figured he was so good that he could just make things up and make things happen.

There is no evidence that he ever progressed from this state.

He was intellectually very lazy. This will never change. Why is that so admirable? This guy was not willing to do for his team what it takes (even for the best QBs) to succeed. How does that make him such a "great guy"?

You are completely off base on most of your points here. Yes, JP's glaring weakness was indeed that he could not process the play happening around him. This is the reason he did not succeed in Buffalo as the kid had all of the physical tools you could want...

I would be curious what makes you say "he was never a student of the game?" and "He never wholed himself up in the film room.".... considering that his QB coach Sam Wyche (widely considered a great QB coach) publicly praised JP's work ethic and time spent studying film. I'm paraphrasing but I recall Wyche stating that JP had one of the best work ethics he had ever seen...I think he would know a little better than you....

  4. I wish this was the case. I generally feel proud of our sell-out record, especially this year, and I ridicule other teams that cannot sell out (Jax, Oakland, etc)

However, remember always that we did not sell-out the Greatest Comeback game. Not selling out a playoff game is simply inexcusable, and it is mind-boggling that Buffalo could not sell out this game.

I agree. But for the record, Buffalo did sell out that game, just not in time to have the black out lifted.

  5. I met a doctor from Jax several months ago, who gets season tickets every year...every year he gives these tickets away to friends and family...he regrets even getting them this year because the tickets he gives away-nobody uses them!

This is unbelievably sad. Even if your not a fan, passing up free tickets to pro football game!?!?!

It really is true that if that Jags have a losing season they will struggle to draw 30,000 to their games!

I am giving us Bills fans some serious kudos for continuing to fill up the Ralph every Sunday in spite of the product we have been seeing!

  6. Ok, that does it.

    You miserable, team-trashing, City-bashing a-hole.

Tell us once and for all why you're on this board, or shut your trap and go find a rats' nest to which you can cozy up.

This is a board for Bills' fans. If you aren't one, then go fly a kite; and if you are one, start acting like it instead of using the forum to insult the team and the locale every chance you get. And then you compound the crime by running like a scared kid and never responding to when you're called out.

Nothing marks someone as a loser more than constantly criticizing others and then never backing up their statements, and you my friend do both consistently.

In closing: say something halfway intelligent or even semi-worth-a-darn, or take your pissy attitude elsewhere; and sorry to the OP for the temporary thread-jacking. Eventually that team will have to sell tickets or be moved.

I say..BRAVO to you sir!

  7. Me too but not a top 10 pick. If the Bills can move back to say 14-18 sure and pick up another first round pick in 2011 or a 2nd in 2010.

I don't think they will be able to garner a pick like that trading down to 14-18. 2nd round pick and change maybe...

But I agree, he is not a top 10 pick. I would put him at a lower 1st round talent at this point. But remember what happened to Vince Young's stock after his performance in the National Championship game that year? Pike isn't in the Championship, but a good showing against Florida could move him up a bit.

  8. Owning a firearm in the United States may one day become next to impossible for the average Joe. Its to bad the underworld will still be able to gain access to firearms illegally. Here's an interesting blog for folks to read.

“A free people ought not only to be armed and disciplined, but they should have sufficient arms and ammunition to maintain a status of independence from any who might attempt to abuse them, which would include their own government.”

    ~George Washington

    Good quote.

Back to the topic of the thread. I wouldn't be too concerned. As other posters have commented, if the site is hosted outside of the Country there isn't much that can be done...yet....

  9. What about Jimmy Johnson, he needs to come out of retirement. He still can coach, he is only 66 y/o . At least he would be a quick fix for the next five years then turn the team over to someone hand picke don his staff. Any thought? I am not crazy just looking for a wimneer out there!!!

No. I hate that S.O.B. Can never forgive him for the Superbowl losses...

  10. The Stillers were absolutely loaded with talent for nearly every minute of Cowher's career. When he took over their roster consisted of some of the following players:

    Dermontti Dawson

    John Jackson

    Eric Green

    Barry Foster

    Tunch Ilkin

    Merril Hoge

    Rod Woodson

    Greg Lloyd

    Yancy Thigpen

    Levon Kirkland

    Carnell Lake

    Leon Searcy

    Darren Perry

    Hardy Nickerson

Tom Donohoe continued adding talented players like Jerome Bettis, Kevin Greene, Alan Faneca, Joel Steed, Hines Ward, Jeff Hartings, James Harrison, etc etc etc ad infinitum.

And after 14 more years of his regular Sunday afternoon asshattery, Cowher finally got to put on Dick LeBeau's ring.

    YESSS!!! :)

  11. Except he did it with Cowher's team. Barry Switzer anyone??

Here is a list of the players they lost since last year:

    * OG Kendall Simmons - released; 2002 first round pick; ended 2008 season on IR[30]

    * LB Mike Humpal - released; 2008 sixth round pick; ended 2008 on IR[30]

    * WR Nate Washington - 2005 undrafted free agent; signed with the Tennessee Titans as an unrestricted free agent[31]

    * FS Anthony Smith - 2006 3rd round pick; signed with Green Bay Packers as an unrestricted free agent[32]

    * CB Bryant McFadden - 2005 2nd round pick; signed with the Arizona Cardinals as an unrestricted free agent[33]

    * OT Marvel Smith - 2000 2nd round pick who started 108 games as a Steeler; signed with San Francisco 49ers[34]

    * QB Byron Leftwich - Steelers 2008 back-up QB; signed with Tampa Bay Buccaneers[35]

    * RB Gary Russell - released; 2007 undrafted rookie free agent, scored first touchdown of Super Bowl XLIII; signed with Oakland Raiders.[36]

    * LB Larry Foote - released; 2002 2nd round pick who started 83 games as a Steeler, including all 80 over the past five seasons; signed with Detroit Lions.[37]

    * LS Jared Retkofsky - released; signed last season when veteran long snapper Greg Warren tore his ACL[24]

    * CB Fernando Bryant - Retired [38]

Sorry, but the core of the Championship team is still there. You say it was Cowher's team. Well Cowher still only won 1 Superbowl with his team in a lot more seasons.....

  12. I was wondering...Since the Steelers have lost 5 straight, does that make Mike Tomlin an idiot and Ben Rothlesberger a bust? I need to know if the standard TBD rating system applies to other NFL teams.

    PTR

To answer your question: YES! According to half of this board.

In reality, most of the components are still there. They just aren't playing well right now.

  13. Watching the College Football Awards Show on ESPN, and just saw the story on this kid. His battle against cancer touches very close to home with me, losing my father to pancreatic cancer almost 2 years ago.

I hope he returns to the field and still chases his dream of being a top NFL draft pick, the Bills could use him...AND his fiery, passionate attitude on the field. He seems to be quite the leader too.

I will pray for him...Here's to my new favorite football player/idol...Mark Herzlich. :)

*GO TOBY! (or Big Suzie for the Heisman)

First off, I'm very sorry to hear about your Father.

I saw this segment as well. The kid seems about as tough, genuine and motivated as it gets. Seems like an all around good guy! I hope comes back and tears up on the gridiron next year and beyond and more importantly that he remains cancer free...

On a side note. What did you think of the show? I thought it seemed very "real" and was very well done (not over produced).

  14. Anyone watching this mess? What happened to the Steelers? They look like the Bills out there - can't tackle, Big Ben has been sacked 5 times already, just poor football all around.

This just goes to show you how fleeting and fragile the recipe to winning in the NFL actually is...Wow did this team fall off....
