So much for the NEED to have a "franchise QB"...
billsfreak replied to McD's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ask anyone in the Jets organization and I guarantee you that they will think Sanchez is a franchise quarterback. They traded a bunch to move up in the first round to draft him, has won twice as many post season games than any QB in Jets history, and in his first two seasons he has two AFC Championship game appearances. If anything he is more of a franchise QB than Cutler is, but I would say all four of the QBs left are franchise QBs. Other than that item, your post is very accurate. -
Your quote is pretty well spot on. If Levy was already a HOF quality coach in 1986, he never would have came here. He was a coach who was successful in college and in Canada, a good special teams coach under George Allen, but his stint as HC of the Chiefs, wasn't all that remarkable which was why he hadn't worked in a while and was available. The main reason he was hired was his relationship with Polian, whom Levy got hired as a GM while he was coaching in Canada, otherwise he wouldn't have been in the discussions for a new HC. You are right and I have said it here before, the only coach that Ralph has ever brought in with a successful NFL resume was Knox, and he couldn't get out of Buffalo fast enough when his contract was up, even though he was offered an extension. His unwillingness to spend on coaches and front office personnel is so evident to this day, just look at the staff he hired just this past year. That along with the reputation he has for not being committed to winning, keeps coaches of the like of Shanahan, Cowher, etc. from even considering coming here, no matter what the salary. He got lucky with Polian or we wouldn't have been able to enjoy the 7-8 years of winning in the late 80' and into the 90's that we did, but of course you see how he chased him and anyone else out of here that had a clue too, as soon as he could.

1. DT/DL-desperately need help with one of the worst run defenses this league has seen in years. 2. QB-I like Fitz, he is fun to watch at times, extremely frustrating with his 2 to 3 just plain terrible plays that he makes every game, but he is in no way a QB that will lead a team to the playoffs, much less a championship. 3. TE-We had less TE receptions than any team in the league this year, and it wasn't by a couple catches either, it was a dozen or so less than the next closest team. 4. LT/RT-both of our Tackles are UFL quality at best. 5. ILB-if they don't resign Poz, we have nothing here. 6. RG-I would keep Wood at Center, he says he is most comfortable there and we haven't had a decent one since Hull retired. On a good offense, the center is the QB of the O-Line, you can't keep filling this position with multiposition below average journeyman like Hangartner. 7. CB/Safety-Depending on who resigns. Those left-Byrd was borderline terrible and invisible this past year. Outside of 1 or 2 games, the same can be said of McFumble too. McGee is on his last leg, if he is even around next year can you count on him for more then the 4 or 5 games he was able to play this year? Alot of the positions will depend on who resigns with the team and who doesn't, i.e.-Whitner, Florence, Poz, etc. I would have had "Owner", "GM" and "head coach" on the list but they aren't technically positions.

Tell Erik Flowers and John McCargo that? -
Have we Ever gotten anything from the Raiders?

Me neither, but it gives a reason for 30 other posts to see who we got from the the other teams too? -

Up goes Rogers, Roethlisberger, Sanchez & Cutler, all franchise quarterbacks, so please your argument holds no weight. And you are right all those franchise quarterbacks you listed have lost in the playoffs, but they are for the most part the reason their teams got to the postseason to begin with, something we haven't done since Flutie left. No team will ever even be slightly competitive with any of the QBs on our roster at this current time. Not saying Defense isn't important at all, but QB is the most important position on a team and it isn't even arguable. Besides the QBs you listed Brady (3 rings), Flacco (playoffs every year in the league), Brees (one ring)had nothign to do with their loss to Seattle, he played great, their defense was pathetic, Ryan is now what 23-3 at home in his career, it takes us 7 or 8 years to win 23 games-they had nothing to do with any of the success by your argument. -
Let's see? One has 5 or 6 years in the league as an occasional starter on last place teams. The other is in his second year in the NFL and second AFC Championship game? Wow, tough question. Who would answer Fitzy with a straight face and/or unbiased opinion? Answer: Nobody. If he was on the Jets he would be a backup, just like he would an any above average team in the NFL. So you wouldn't gain anything by putting him on the Jets, other than seeing how well he holds a clipboard and runs the scout team. Kinda like he did here at the beginning of the year when he was beat out by Trent Edwards.

I too have had the NFL ticket for about 9-10 years, and myself I didn't miss a single play this year of Bills football (as tough as it was at time, it was paid for), and I can pretty much guarantee he dropped more than 3-4 passes this year. I like Jackson alot, and love the effort he puts out running the ball and the leadership he shows, but I still contend that receiving isn't his strong suit, in fact it may be his biggest weakness along with punching the ball up the middle at the goal line. I didn't say ML was a better receiver (didn't say he wasn't either), was just replying to the fact that you stated how good of a receiving back Jackson was.

I thought Spiller pretty much sat out this year?
-
Are you high? They should have won the first. The second one they were buried alive against the Skins, just as Jim Kelly has said. They could have won the last one until Thurman fumbled and the momentum swung the other way, and how that is the coache's fault is unclear. Sounds like your typical unknowledgeable bias so often spewed on this board, this one obviously against the best coach this franchise has ever had, whose record speaks for itself. Exactly, the Bills franchise could only be so lucky as to have those terrible results year after year. Not to mention that Rex Ryan and the Jets took a similar timeout when the Colts where driving down before Vinatieri's kick that put them back ahead. I guess that means to fire Ryan too?
-
Has he been Vince Lombardi, heck no, but you can't fire a coach who has his record after two season, including both seasons winning the division. This year, with all the injuries they have had, basically a new reciever every week, and they still were playing long after the Bills had their lockers cleaned out as usual. Second thought, fire him, maybe he would come here?

Saints would have offered a 3rd round pick

Just about everything he has done here since he took over has made him look like he has a big red nose and super big black shoes. -
Poz extension waiting for new CBA
billsfreak replied to Tortured Soul's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I totally agree with you, alot of clueless morons on this board when it comes to bashing certain players with no basis to do so. If you put Poz on the Steelers you might be able to say he is the "weak link" or one of the lesser players, but on this team, and especially on this defense, considering what he has around him, he is comparitively speaking a superstar. -
Your post further illustrates how the Bills can't draft. You are correct in that Nelson, Jones and Moats were probably the best three rookies, and only one of them was drafted, the others were undrafted FAs. So Moats came on over the last 5 or 6 games, the jury is still somewhat out on him, and sadly that is the best that the 2009 draft has given to the Buffalo Bills. I know he as been in Philly and New Orleans since the Bills dumped him, but I wasn't aware he was ever in Seattle.

In a dream maybe. Ralph would never pay the bucks it is gonna cost to sign this guy. -
Saints would have offered a 3rd round pick
billsfreak replied to zevo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
From what I have read, a few teams would have given up at least a 3rd round pick for Lynch, but this underachieving front office failed to shop him. For those who say "all they had to do was call", if you have any bit of memory, the Bills were telling the league that he wasn't on the block. Not sure what the deal was here, unless Nix has some affection for Pete Carroll? Just another in the growing list of blunders this FO has made in their less than a year at OBD. From what was said on the TV over the weekend, the Saints did call the Bills and were told that he wasn't on the block. The Saints asked the Bills to call them before trading him if they decide to, that they were interested and would basically top any offer, but these Bozos failed to help this team once again. Fixed! -
Poz extension waiting for new CBA
billsfreak replied to Tortured Soul's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Let's hope they eventually do resign him and finally make a smart move, this FO has been a joke since it has been here. -
Not to dis Freddie, because I like him, but you obviously didn't watch the games if you say he is a good receiver? He dropped almost every pass that was thrown his way this year, even the little short swing passes.
-
So is Merriman, did that stop the clowns Nix and Gailey? How do you figure? The farther the Seahawks go in the draft, the lower their pick is?
-
We still would have been better off with a combo of Freddie and Lynch, and used that first round pick on a QB, or a Tackle or stud defensive lineman. We are blessed with the worst owner, FO and maybe coaching staff in the league. But hey we get what a 4th round pick for him, which with Seattle making the playoffs might as well be a 5th round pick, who probably won't make anymore impact than the majority of this years draft class has.
-
Well said. This front office has proven so far to be more incompetent than any in my memory of watching the Bills for over 40 years. Like I said, Lynch had more production in his couple games in Buffalo before he was traded than Spiller has all year. This front office messed up their first draft and just about every move they have made since has been a joke. This franchise will never be successful again until there is a new person sitting up in the owner's box.
-
Please don't say "everyone", I personally still feel that they are all cheap hires by Ralph that in the long run won't be any better than anyone that has been here over the past decade plus. Fitz is a real good backup at best, never ever will be a quality starting quarterback. Gailey and Nix were the cheapest Ralph could find, and scrappings from the bottom of the barrel because nobody that had any history of success and didn't want the sun and the moon for a salary, wouldn't come to Buffalo and work for Ralph if it was their last chance to ever have a job in the NFL.
-
He gave that effort on every run in Buffalo too, he was just behind the worst O-Line in football with one of the worst QBs handing him the ball. Another brilliant move by clueless Buddy Nix, Lynch had more production on that one run that Spiller has all year.

Picking a QB at 3 - He better be starting
billsfreak replied to MikeSpeed's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
A quarterback drafted at #3 on a good team (obviously a team that traded up) should have him starting right out of the gate, but there is no such rush on a terrible team like ours. It is no harm to have him hang around for 7-10 games to learn the system and get the feel for the speed of the NFL on the sideline before you feed him to the wolves. If you put a rookie, epecially a pocket passer behind the line they have in Buffalo right now, he might not make it to his second or third season in one piece. Like I said in another post, just about any position if the guy is gonna make it in the NFL he can learn on the fly, the QB needs groomed and nurtured. Any other position you can tell within the first year or so if he is gonna suck (Maybin) but at QB not so much so (Manning had a zillion picks his rookie year). -
Fitz's 2011 stats compared to the Big Three
billsfreak replied to folz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I say you need to find something to do with your time. Comparing Fitz to those 3? Are you serious. You might be able to compare Fitz to the top three backups in the league favorably. That is like comparing Fred Jackson to O.J. Simpson, Barry Sanders and Walter Payton, to even suggest they are in the same league is ridiculous.
