Wow! Really?! Look, we're all tired of the protracted nature of the negotiations. But it's protracted, not contentious - there's a difference. To their credit, neither the Bills nor Byrd has negotiated in the press - that leaves EVERYONE (you, me & the press) with nothing but our imaginations to go by. At this time of year that's a dangerous thing - minds running wild with speculation while our favorite team is trying to amass the pieces to a successful roster and team. Byrd is a pro bowl caliber safety or very close to it. He's a 27ish yr old young man, who, at this unique time in his life, is on the cusp of signing a contract that will leave him set for life. If I'm in his shoes - I'm not in a hurry. (I don't like it, I want him here. But I get it.) I can't say more any better than Joe Buscaglia does here.

so much smoke here. Destroyed cell phones, destroyed surveillance equipment, sanitized his house, victims car is a rental in Hernandez's name, body discovered less than a mile from his house . . . . hmmmm - he's guilty of something here. On a sunnier note - the Pat's TE strength has gotten a lot thinner - good for the rest of the NFL!!! What? too soon?

I read the article, it says around 1AM he fell into the creek. 1AM? If he was ejected at half-time (it was a night game wasn't it?), that would put the time around 10PM - 3 hours before he fell. Did he keep drinking? Did he get in a fight? Lots of questions. It will be interesting to know his blood alcohol and how he spent his last 3 hours. It's a sad story, but I don't think anyone other than that young man was responsible, but the gov't agencies could settle to save on the legal costs.

Speaking of compliments, I remember Jerry Rice talking with some media outlet who was gushing over him being the best receiver in the game, and he said Andre Reed was the best in the game (at that time). Reeds RAC was the best, Rice was excellent to, but Reed was the best. And it was great of Jerry to say that - especially with Reed still knock, knock, knockin' on Canton's door! -
Byrd Skipping mandatory mini-camp
Never NEVER Give-up replied to mitchmurraydowntown's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Byrd is not under contract and only players under contract are mandated to be at the mini-camp. So he's not doing anything wrong. In fact I would do the same thing - I'm not going to camp and exposing myself to injury when I'm on the cusp of signing the (potentially) only contract that will take came of me/my family for the rest of our lives. By waiting (holding out), it's the only leverage he has to getting the best deal possible for him/his family. The Bills, by drafting 2 safeties, are saying we are prepared to move on without you if we need to. So both sides look at it and hope time is on there side and will cause the other to compromise first. Hopefully as Training Camp approaches and the heat is turned-up on both sides, each will move toward the middlie and get a deal done. Worse case scenario - Byrd sits out the season Next worse case - Byrd sits 10 weeks, then comes to play (bad omen for his future with the team) Medium case - he signs the tender by 7/15 (potentially leaves him somewhat disgruntled and is not a positive sign about the future because they'll have to go thru this again next year) Better scenario - he signs the tender and signs a long term deal as the summer/season progresses Best case scenario - He signs a long term deal by the start of Camp -
I will say this quickly because I don't want to read 14 pages of posts: § It strikes me as odd that most of the media are saying the Tebow signing is a masterful stroke. If any of 31 other teams signed him, they'd be getting lambasted/skewered! § Kudo's to James Walker – espn / AFCEast Blogger who said this is another step back by the Pats and this will move them farther away from contention for the Super Bowl. § Part of me feels this was a humane gesture by Belichek because of all the anti-Tebow rhetoric in the press. So even if Tebow is cut before the regular season, he will be able to save a little face. But then I think of how dispassionate that organization is toward players that have toiled for them (McGinest, Milloy, Welker + more).

What?? " #28 Steve Johnson " Johnson has been stretched as the Bills' No. 1 receiver." " I don't even know what this means! Looking at the list, I think Stevie belongs in the 8-14 group. I like him better than Vincent Jackson (too many drops). At worst in the 15-21 group. Imagine if he had a bona-fide QB pitching to him!

What's he doin' to the food? Never eat eggs or pineapple in a strange restaurant. Or at least check the alley first!! -
I feel this is a waste, but I am always curious to see where guys are slotted. The reason I don't care for this is the rationale they (NFL Network) use to select the players, They are chosen by their peers - which I thought was good According to a BobDVA above,it seems only 30 do the naming of 20 players - this is bad -now I hate it more! The list is always for the coming year - it is for 2013 now. Therefore there is a lot of projecting - OK, I can live with that. But when old players are named for what they did in the past, it is not a reflection on the coming year. Then when they talk about it and pan a guy because he hasn't achieved enough yet, I have to wonder what the heck's going on. These people seem to forget the premise themselves. They rationalize the picks and violate the very premise of the list. Regarding Spiller - I don't know if he'll make it. Regarding Byrd - this morning they said only one more safety is on the list - is it Ed Reed or Byrd? If the list is for 2013 - it should be Byrd even though Reed is still a player, I think his play has been slipping the last few years due to injury and Byrd is trending up.

Duke Williams Signed

Also, New Orleans signed their #1 - Kenny Vaccaro. He was #15 overall, just before we took EJ. Here's hoping that is a good omen to getting EJ signed & sealed well before Camp! -
Sad that it impacts people in need of a hand. Glad that he waited until he left Buffalo to find trouble. Reading the article, it sounds like it could be an accident followed by a misunderstanding. Being married for over 27 years, I can tell you it is difficult to argue when you're naked! It sounds like she was accusing him of having something innapropriate (to her) on his cell phone. Then she tried to throw it at him / ruin the phone too. Then the accident happened and he tried to grab her, tearing her shirt. It sucks to have this hit the papers - hurts his career and one of his charitable causes.

EJ's Florida Game Lucky for Bills?
Never NEVER Give-up replied to Last Guy on the Bench's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Look, we need to remember this game (and others) occurred while his Mom was battling breast cancer - enough to screw with anyone's head. Here's a good story from espn: http://espn.go.com/c...ollege-football An excerpt: On Sept. 22, in what was the highlight of his career, Florida State quarterback EJ Manuel showcased a Heisman-caliber performance in a 49-37 nationally televised win over No. 10-ranked Clemson. With over 300 yards passing and 100 yards rushing, he accomplished a stat line Florida State had seen only one other time -- in 1992, by former Heisman Trophy winner Charlie Ward. On Nov. 24, before what was easily the most disastrous and emotional performance of his career, Manuel was honored on Senior Day with his mother by his side, just days after she had received another chemotherapy treatment for Stage 1 breast cancer. Manuel threw three interceptions and lost one fumble in a 37-26 loss to rival Florida, his last game in Doak Campbell Stadium. The bottom line is that neither game means he'll be a star or a dud. But his head is in the right place, he has good, patient coaches and the luxury of sitting until ready behind Kolb (probably) or T.Jackson. I like his chances to be a good QB in this league. -
