  1. Packers Give Up On Brian Brohm, QB Signs With Buffalo The Green Bay Packers have officially given up on quarterback Brian Brohm, whom general manager Ted Thompson selected with a second round pick in the 2008 NFL Draft. Brohm was signed off the Packers practice squad by the Buffalo Bills on Wednesday, and despite having an open roster slot after releasing receiver Jake Allen earlier in the day, the Packers simply decided to let Brohm go. http://www.totalpackers.com/2009/11/19/packers-give-up-on-brian-brohm/ Packers let Brohm go without a fight Nov 19, 2009 -- 8:45am GREEN BAY – The Packers did indeed lose quarterback Brian Brohm to the Buffalo Bills on Wednesday night, but they didn’t make an effort to keep him, either. The practice-squad quarterback and 2007 second-round pick received a two-year deal from the Bills to join their 53-man roster, but an NFL source said Thursday morning that the Packers did not make the same offer to Brohm to keep him. The source also said that the release of wide receiver Jake Allen earlier Wednesday was not a move made to create room on the 53-man roster for Brohm. http://www.espnmilwaukee.com/includes/blog/index.php?action=blog&blog_id=20&post_id=1317
  2. Easy there Dogstradomus. It seems as if Stupar is less Tony Gonzo and more the last man standing. I think that Marshawn's problem is not his production but is consumption. And Trent has done absolutely nothing as an NFL QB and his competition was a bunch of throw aways and a 7th rounder. So while you pat yourself on the back for your "premonitions", it turns out all of them are more circumstance than your "visions".
  3. I look at things objectivily. I am a Bills fan but that doesn't mean that I can't be critical of a player when I feel they deserve it. You on the other hand let your fandom cloud your judgment. I don't think that there is anything wrong with that either, especially when you are one of the nicest posters on this board. But you are who Simmons is talking about, I don't think it's denial, I think unconditional fandom. I started a thread this week titled "I WAS WRONG ABOUT THE SPILLER PICK". When I'm wrong, I have no problem being accountable. I hope I'm wrong about Trent like I was about the Spiller pick, nothing would make me happier. I'm a Bills fan and this is a message board so I don't live and die by the "humiliation" of being wrong. but with Trent, we've been there and done that. And that is what I believe.
  4. Great! A new semester breeds a new freshman class (draft Locker/Luck/Mallet). You partake in the persuit of this great class (draft). You head home in early October for a huge party that your buddy throws and everyone is going to be there. You're having a great time and she shows up with this "look at what you lost" attitude and her new b'friend (Trent going to the Cardinals in FA). You watch her throughout the night and you act like you don't care (Trent's preseason) and BAM! She gets sh*tfaced drunk and causes a huge embarassing scene and throws up all over the house(Trent's still checking down and suffers a concussion in the 3rd QTR). You smile, your buddies give you a reaffirming "attaboy" and you go on with your night (The Bills made the right call by letting him walk). You head back to school and hear that her new guy dumped her (Cardinals cut Trent). And scene!
  5. Kelly, my point is that there are a lot of people making more out Brohm than what he is. There is almost no precendent for a highly drafted QB to be let go before his 2nd year even starts! Especially without compensation. Everyone in the league passed on him through waivers which tells me that even the bad teams who needed a QB didn't think much of him. The Bills took a flyer on him and realized that he's nothing more than a backup. I don't think that's all that bad. He comes from a coaching family, maybe he'll be a valuable "Frank Reich" type backup who can mentor and help a future QB learn. But he's nothing more than that. To make anything more out of how he got here just seems silly and desperate...that's all. BTW, welcome back!
  6. There's an opportunity for a "sack" joke somewhere in this analogy.
  7. No offense to Dean, I'm going to take a legit source's report on this and not yours. Link below. Packers decline to match Bills' offer to Brohm "The Packers offered to bring up Brohm to the 53-man roster but didn't match Buffalo's offer, which included a bonus. That might have sealed the decision for Brohm, a former second-round draft pick who surely wanted a fresh start as well after 1 1/2 disappointing years in Green Bay." http://www.greenbaypressgazette.com/ic/blogs/insider/2009/11/qb-mike-reilly-signed-to-practice-squad.html
  8. I think the majority of Bills fans think Edwards is an average QB. The fans that think Edwards is going to break out are the same ones who believe Maybin needs time, Donte is a top 5 safety and Nix walks on water. Every fan base has that. Simmons is funny but the better comparison would be, the "college break girlfriend". You come home from college on break, your old girlfriend is still hangin around town, you call her up, "hang out" and in the morning as you wake you realize what you did and say, "Did I expect things to change?" There will be plenty of fans who have that same feeling come week 8 about Trent.
  9. Dean, do you really think they valued him at all? Again, this a 2nd year QB who was a 2nd round pick the year before. TEAMS DO NOT GIVE PLAYERS OF VALUE UP, ESPECIALLY QB'S! Simple logic tells you that they saw nothing in him other than a warm body who knew the playbook. Seriously, Bills fans are so despreate. http://www.disboards.com/
  10. What did GB get in return for their 2nd round pick? Nothing! A team that places any value in a player, especially a QB, does not leave him susceptable to being picked up for nothing. Because they matched his 300K salary? How about that they didn't have a 3rd QB on the roster who knew the system and didn't want to bring in another guy midseason who has to learn the offense. They saw nothing in him bottom line. The Packers know QB's and they were willing to let another team take without anything in return....and now we see why.
  11. This post is absurd. Let's not forget that Vick electrocuted, hung, beat, tortured, dronwed (in a 5 gallon bucket).....to completely defensless animals. He is a career criminal which priors for drugs and he knowlingly gave woman herpes. He is a sociopathic scumbag who hopefully will get his real payback when he's broke and in jail by the time he's 40. Ben was out at a college bar and had sex with a drunk girl. No charges, no indictments, no criminal rapsheet, NO CRIME! Bad Judgement? Arogant Ahole? Evil Kanevil? YES, but he hasn't even scratched the surface when it come to comparing what he's done to Mike Vick's disgusting past.
  12. There's a reason GB let him go for nothing. He's a career backup with very little upside. I would like to keep him though because he's cheap and he has a good knowledge of the passing game (under Patrino and Gaily). He might be a good mentor once The Bills draft their QB of the future.
  13. Now if we could have them include Rivers in that trade.......
  14. I think we just found you a new screen name! I don't think that you'll ever have to start a post that says; My name is Leonidas/primal rage and I was wrong about the Aaron Maybin pick. What I can't wait to see is CB97 start a post that says just that! My other screen name choice was Dr. Rosenrosen If you're a Fletch fan, this link will give you a good laugh! http://members.fortunecity.com/thefletchpage/aliases.html
  15. I completely agree with both of these points. I've asked the question, "Since Polian left, when have the Bills been smarter than the rest of the NFL?" And as much as I like Spiller, I'm still not sold on other picks/moves. The whole, "You must know more than Buddy" comments are so tired. Great, why have a message board?!? So we can all sing Kumbaya as we are boiling in hot water? The Pollyannas (Rico's term) are even worse than the "Negs" because they have history on their side. Either way, we should all unite over a guy like CJ. We haven't had a true superstar since Bruce/Thurm/Kelly/Reed and that is one thing we can all sing Kumbaya about!
  16. JMO, I think that you're way over-thinking this. It's not just about his ability it's about his versatility. Sure Marshawn and FJax can catch the ball but niether of them get upfield, setting up blocks the way CJ has shown. The way Chan used him in the Bengals game gives me as much hope as his speed and vision. The counter tray out of the wildcat, the trap out of shotgun and the zone read out of shotgun shows me that Chan wanted this guy and had a plan for him all along. I would agree that he wouldn't be effective lining up in the "I" every play and running iso's, but that's not the way they are using him and he will never be a powerback. Does that mean he can't be used 60 snaps a game? Not at all, this isn't an power running offense. I think we all have to remember that this isn't the old blah Bills offense, this is an offense that is suited and tailored to utilize speed and create mismatches...which is something the Bills haven't done in 20 years.
  17. And which one of these RB's are great? My original point about picking CJ was that we had a very good duo. As good as any that you listed so why spend the pick....well after watching CJ and the way that Chan is using him, he's not any of those guys above, he looks like he has the makings of an all time great. Thanks. As red-assed as I am about the Bills, I love when I'm wrong about something like this! One of my favorites...what kind of name is Poon?
  18. I don't mind be accountable especially when I was so vocal about the pick. It is funny how some have taken this as my "stamp of approval" for Nix and I'm sure that comes off as self important but that wasn't my point at all. My point was that I thought the Bills needed more from that pick but Spiller was a once in a lifetime in their eyes...and NOW I see what they meant. However, I'm only left to dream about the Bills gong Spiller/Clausen.....
  19. There are few on this board as cynical as I am. I have been very critical of Buddy's draft and the whole rebuilding process, Trent, Lil Donte, Maybin and the list goes on. But it doesn't take a seasoned scout to see that Spiller is a rare breed. I've watched him play for 4 years in college and do the exact same thing that he's doing now. He played on mediocre Clemson teams yet was always head and shoulders above everyone and elevated his team by himself. To see what he's done the last couple of weeks to 2 really good defenses has been more than impressive. Here is some perspective, lighten up and be happy that the Bills FINALLY have at least one true star on their roster. It's only been 20 years!
