I get your drift and don't disagree, but fortunately for the Bills, the Pittsburgh Pirates are the undisputed worst franchise in sports -- in any league, in any country.
-
I think the Bills' defense benefitted greatly from a Washington offensive line that featured replacement players at left tackle, left guard and center, and also was missing ide receiver Santana Moss, tight end Chris Cooley and running back Tim Hightower. I'm happy the Bills won, but considering how banged up the Washinton NFL franchise with the racist nickname is, I'm kind of disappointed that they didn't win by a wider margin. That said, it's pretty sweet to see the Bills hand Shanahan his first shutout loss as an NFL coach.

Except that tax dollars pay for arts in schools -- except in my affluent Washington DC suburban school district, where the high school band members go door-to-door to beg residents for money. It sounds like private funding was used for the broadcasts -- apples and oranges. And we also have one person's statement that the Bills never notified him. We never get the Bills version. Personally, I'd like a more balanced telling of the story of a guy who spent 12 years on a project and still couldn't make a go of it.

Nice observation. I read the story a few times, and it comes across as lazy journalism. No facts, no perspective, no context. Only one-sided quotes without a hint of perspective from the other side (not even "the Bills were not available to comment). Sounds like a straw man argument to me. I don't know who else ponies up for these broadcasts, but aren't there other marks to hit up? I know Buffalo is not a hotbed of corporate HQs, but it does have a few good-sized companies: Rich Products, Delaware North, New Era, the Buffalo News (owned by a certain billionaire named Warren Buffett). Do any of the school districts involved kick in for the broadcasts? The writer notes that two of the people involved in the broadcasts work for UPS. Did they ever bother bother to hit up UPS? We'll never know because the writer chose not to offer any facts to let us make our own decision. The writer does say that the operation is "largely a one-man-band" situation. If that's the case, can the costs be so great? We don't know because we're never told what the budget is or what operating expenses are. Nor can I tell if the broadcasts are popular. If they were, wouldn't there be a market for advertisersto help pick up the tab? Or is listenership so low that the station's ad salesmen can't find anyone to pay for an ad. Again, we'll never know. Why are no other "sponsors" quoted lamenting the loss of a major patron? Could it be there are no other sponsors? Again, we don't know. So to pin this situation on the Bills sounds a bit disengenuous to me.

Bills statistically have a great chance to make the playoffs
notwoz replied to Scrappy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Didn't the 2008 Bills start out 4-0. And what were the odds that they'd make the playoffs after that start? And how did they do in the playoffs that year? Oh, never mind. And weren't the Bills supposed to beat the Bengals based on your estimation that the Bengals defense was overrated? How did that one turn out for you? Oh, never mind. -
Actually, I wonder HOW drunk would Faith Hill have to get to screw that fat, washed-up, tea-baggin' has been. Most likely he was "cowed into submission" by his agent and accountant, who both saw a steady stream of royalty money swirling the drain. Another great moment for capitalism and self-preservation.

Dear NFL ..........................................

Good perspective. I want to see how the team rebounds. That will tell us a lot about the rest of the season. Unfortunately, I won't see next week's game live. I'll be in Pa. taking photos of the "grand canyon of the East." But thank goodness for DVRs. -
I'm optimistic that the Bills will be more entertaining this year than they were last year but if you want real optimism --

Let's review the "vaunted" Bengals defense this season
notwoz replied to Scrappy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Shall we add the results of the Bengals' week 4 opponent? 273 yards (190 passing, 83 rushing) -
Nothing I do or say ever affects the outcome of any game. Sounds like it's ALL your fault. Thanks. Now I can let the team off the hook for an uninspired game.

Which one of you guys is this from last Sunday?

His wallet was probably as empty as his skull. -
Can I just say one thing at this point?

Yes, we have answered that question. Your grip on the English language is tenuous at best. -
Tom Golisano -- the guy who did so much to lift the Sabres to prominence? Think he'll bring Larry Quinn with him? Bills fans carp on Ralph Wilson for being cheap. Their heads will explode if Tom G. gets the team.

Did Ralph Already Grant Toronto An Option To Buy?

Very astute. Kudos.

I emailed the reporter on that story and told him Kelly had it wrong. The Raiders didn't give the game away. The Bills TOOK it away.

Ditto

thx. I'll set the DVR for it.

The telecast got the Heidi treatment in New England

Same thing here in the Washington DC area. Had the game on, it was 4th and 1, and the screen went black. Called DirecTV. The guy couldn't explain what happened, but said he'd shave $5 a month off my bill for the next six months. I would have preferred seeing the ending, but I'll take the $30. -
I think that just goes to show that Flutie is much more plugged in to the benefits of good PR tactics than Drew. After all, we had Flutie Flakes and not Bledsoe Bran Flakes. I guess if I had to choose, I'd say I enjoyed watching Flutie a lot more than I did watching Bledsoe. Nonethless, it's good to hear him say good things about B-lo. And I took a double take when I saw your closing, because that's how I end most emails. Cheers, Chris

Bingo, that's all I want from an announcer.

Sabres Owner/Management vs. Bills Owner/Management
notwoz replied to \GoBillsInDallas/'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I just wonder why the guy is wearing a slug shirt. If he can afford season tickets, you'd think he could afford a new shirt, for Pete's sake. After all, it's not like the slug is a beloved part of Sabres' history.
