I frequently read Jason Gay's columns in the WSJ. He's not bad as a humor writer although he's not as funny as the WSJ's op-ed columnists. But he usually has some salient observations tucked in between his stabs at humor: "Buffalo isn’t a perfect club—they’ve beaten a lot of middling teams on their way to their first 10-win season since Bill Clinton was in office—but they’re feisty, and they’re just one game in the standings behind the Grumpy Lobster Boat Captain, Bill Belichick. Assuming that Brady is on the downhill side of his career, does anyone have any useful information on the Pats' backup QB, Jarrett Stidham? There's not much in the way of statistics on him.

Our UPS guy always knocks. The Amazon Prime guy takes a photo of the package on my doorstep. Most of our FedEx packages are envelopes so he leaves them on the welcome mat. If I am expecting a package that needs a signature when I'm not around, I leave a note on the door asking that the delivery person cross the street to have my neighbor sign. He does the same. And obviously, we check with each other before leaving such a note. Of course I have pillars by my front door, and some outdoor furniture to help conceal packages.

Unless I missed it, none of the stories (which all read like cut-and-paste versions of the Michigan State press release) bothered to say where he died.

Doing well against a team he was expected to do well against ... is that growth? If I wrote something like that on my self-evaluation at work, I'd get a "meets expectations" rating from my boss and a raise that fell into the average category. The Bills have some difficult opponents down the stretch. Let's see how he does. Then we can realistically discuss his growth.

I still think it was a legitimate question. They dumped Tyrod (not that I was a big Tyrod fan) in favor of Allen. The results of the change haven't been overwhelming. And Allen is no longer a rookie. He is in his second year. And the "signs of progress" aren't exactly comforting.

Well, what was his question, then?

Maybe, just maybe, the offense hasn't improved because Allen hasn't been able to move the offense forward. Ever consider that? I'm not saying Allen is an improvement over Tyrod or not. But I am saying that it was a legitimate question. Because the offense has not shown any marked improvement.

I rarely side with Sully, but I think this is a legitimate question. Either Allen is an improvement, or he's not. Asking the coach what makes him an improvement is not an unfair question.
