We need a GM first.

As I sat here nodding my head in agreement with everything you just said, I realized something wild. You just described ALL aspects of American popular culture. Simply replace "coaches" with "politicians", "announcers" with "talk radio pundits", and "sportswriters" with "the News outlets in general".

Jauron was still coach a few weeks back. Ralph was waving to his loyal sheep while putting on his new HOF ring a few weeks ago. Gruden and MNF finalized their deal long before Buffalo supposedly came calling. Face it, this was just another smokescreen meant to appease the sheep while Ralph secretly draws up Jim Haslett's new contract.

What's your point? Holmgren wouldn't be interviewed as a coach, he'd be my GM interview, if I ran the show at 1BD. The GM interview that DOES need to happen right now. See, the Bills FO has already gotten people to bite on the whole idea of waiting for the offseason to hire a COACH, and get us all debating THAT, all the while ignoring the fact that what the team REALLY needs, what it REALLY REALLY REALLY needs, is a competent GM.

Simple. Yes.

I often dream of Bills and Sabres players who behave that way. Gosh, it's been decades since we had a player of that calibre in this town. Makes me kinda want to cry.

I value the lives of animals more than many people do, that's all this is. The things that man did to his animals, seriously, in my opinion, only someone with a chromosome missing doesn't want to kill Vick for that, seriously kill him. And so, no, if that piece of human waste dons a Bills jersey, I'm done with this franchise, not that hard a decision really. And if I can't root for the Bills, there really is no point. No other team really seems appropriate for me to cheer for. Never did, never will.

If Dungy came to Buffalo, he'd instantly try to grab Mike Vick and bring him here, with him. That would officially end my 39-year tenure as a rabid Buffalo Bills fan. In fact, I probably would not watch another NFL game ever again if that were to occur.

The qualities you look for in a Head Coach, in my opinion, are not learned as a coordinator. They are ONLY learned as a Head Coach. The guy with the entire team to manage, the guy with the FINAL say, the guy with the most to lose and the most pressure and the most media face time, is the Head Coach. Coordinators, even great ones, just don't have the COMPLETE resume to look at, IMO, and therefore are HUGE risks. So when you compare guys who have been perennial Coordinators to guys who succeeded as Head Coaches, even at the NCAA level, yes, my vote will go to the Head Coach.

I'll be impressed when this Warwow or someone else in Buffalo "media" breaks the story that Ralph Wilson never gave a rat's ass about Buffalo and this entire "cleaning house" is just his latest clever smokescreen to keep his sheep coming to the trough (ticket booth). Will it be when Holmgren makes his NEXT glaring comment about how he "likes rebuilding projects" and then heads off to Cleveland without even a PEEP out of 1BD that we tried to talk to him? No, seriously, all criticism about our limp-dicked media is 100% earned. No guts, no story.

In another week or two, after he's already talked three times to Cleveland and started looking for a house there, the Bills will announce that they finally found Holmgren's personal cel number and are "actively seeking an interview with him." Watch.

Ralph has worked his control freak magic show long enough that it's possibly TOO LATE for any self-respecting winning coach to come here and take the chance of a miserable time with the owner and thus a disaster tenure to sully their reputation. Ralph could very well have already ruined us for anyone BUT a glorified assistant or perennial loser. If that's the case, I'm on Senator's bandwagon and would take Leach.

This is B.S. It's kinda like a nobody filmmaker in 2009 Hollywood going up to the Paramount people and saying, "We wanna make this movie, and we've been talking to Marilyn Monroe's people. If not her, Betty Grable would be PERFECT for the role." Nevermind that they've been DEAD for years. Gruden decided MONTHS ago that he was not going to coach in 2010, am I wrong here? More smoke up our butts from old Ralphie Boy. That's all this crap is.

Cultural Note: In Australia and New Zealand, men use the word mentioned here to insult one another more often than they use the word d*ck. It has absolutely none of the power it has here. Just wonder if anyone here knew that. Secondly, if that is all Bill Polian did (and remember, this was not some cute little baby girl Bill insulted, but in fact, one of his staff who, for all intents and purposes, WAS a "see you next tuesday"), Ralph needed to forget about it and walk away, or, indeed, get his daughter off Bill's staff, knowing what kind of magic this guy was doing for his franchise and how you don't reward that kind of effort by firing him in favor of your effing DAUGHTER, for God's sake. END RANT

A ONE-year extension would have made sense, in that regard. Not a three-year deal. IMHO.
