  1. I know he is arguably the scapegoat from yesterday's game from his stupidity, however, he is responsible for more issues than people realize. When he catches the ball, he is one of the most, if not the most dangerous return man in the game. Problem is, he doesn't catch the ball. How many times could he have run up and called a fair catch? We had terrible field position time and time again because he doesn't field the short punts. He is more than capable of running forward 10-15 yards and wave his hand. I don't think this is coaching, as when other returners have been back there (e.g. Fred Jackson last year), they would run up and catch the ball. This is one of those little things that make or break the field position battle and clearly has not been helping us.
  2. Ellison is not making mistakes - that is the reason he continues to start. Of all the people on the defense, he is known to "play his position". He is where he is supposed to be on the plays that are called. His issue is that he is not as talented as other players on the field and gets beat. That is why Buggs got pulled. He may have the talent, but doesn't do what he is supposed to. As Fewell said, there were mistakes. When players don't do what they are supposed to, they leave gaping holes. Typically, those are the players who you only see on the fantastic plays, however when they are doing something they are not supposed to be doing, they are often so out of position that you don't even realize they were supposed to be there. (Angelo Crowell was a perfect example of this). "If you look at the tape and as I looked at it with the entire defense there were 26 plays and there was a mistake made on every play," said Fewell. "They did not do that in practice. For whatever reason, I don’t know, they didn’t fit it and didn’t get it done like we wanted to get it done and so I’m not going to stand there and say, ‘Well that’s okay fellas, we’re going to put the same guys on the field and do the same thing again.’ Bullcrap. We’re going to get it right."
  3. Here's to you SDS for creating the best website out there.
  4. AVP - New Interim head coach
  5. Trent - I have been pushing Trent Edwards for the past two years really thinking we had something. People can say the line wasn't there yesterday, however the fact of the matter is when he had time he couldn't find the open receivers. The pick 6 was totally telegraphed. He is trying to force the issue to covered receivers. He just isn't making the right decisions. I think its time for Fitz to be given the nod - at least for one week to put Trent in his place. Jackson vs Lynch - I liked having them both in the game, however, they should not be splitting carries evenly. This was evident yesterday. Jackson made an inept line look decent and Lynch made an inept line, well inept. Jackson should be getting at least 2/3 of the carries and they should be running out of the shotgun, 3 receiver, 2 back sets on 90% of the plays as our TE's aren't playing to snuff. Defense - Someone please help us. Let's get rid of this soft zone s%*t already. Go to man coverage. We have the guys capable at the corners. So what if we give up a couple of big plays. We'll generate enough turnovers and negative yard plays to make up for the difference. The personnel is there (even as depleted as it is). This would allow us to stack 8 in the box, generate significant more pressure on the qb and is at least a lot more enjoyable to watch. T.O. - I am really hoping he explodes soon. Someone needs to light a fire under the a@@es of this football team and everyone knows DJ doesn't seem to be that guy. I hear Buddy Ryan is available (he may be old, but he may be just the psycho we need) SOMEONE please help us!!!!
  6. Totally agree. Ellison has been the best LB on the field so far this year (How - I do not know). He and Kyle Williams have been the "unsung heroes", quietly making plays.
  7. TO has dropped passes, just had his 185 game reception streak snapped, outside of Fred Jackson, the Bills offense has been anemic. This week, that all changes. Both TO and TE are going to be coming out with a purpose. TO because he hasn't done anything and TE because he quickly went from looking great to being bench fodder. My predicition - TO goes 8-175 and 3 TDs - he finally shows up for what he expected to do. Bills go into Miami and blow them out 42-7.
  8. I agree that there were good players that we lost, however, given the game plan of the new system, I think the line we have now fits the system better. Hence why Walker was cut outright (as opposed to moved back to RT). Peters could still have the agility and speed to play on this line, but Dockery was slow and beefy. The question is whether Peters had the intelligence in the new system (some say he didn't). The new line has a lot of things in common and overwhelming size is not one of them. As for Greer, he is a big loss, but he was expendable. If there is one position the Bills are deep in, its cornerback. There were 4 quality guys that were capable of starting coming into this year (McGee, McKelvin, Corner and Youboty). Add Florence (who IMO thinks is a waste of a roster spot) and Lankster (who is a late round steal), you have 6 solid corners. Also, Byrd was the only high pick used on a DB and we needed the depth there. The rest of DB's were borderline UFAs.
  9. Going with that idea, we should line up Spencer Johnson and McCargo at corner (since the McFly boys are hurt) and run EXTREME bump and run coverage.
  10. 45 (plus 1 for your #3 QB who is only eligible to play if your top 2 go down)
  11. Is this a dish?
  12. Thanks for all of the help. Do you know if any of the online services have a TIVO like ability, as it appears that Supercast on DirecTV does not.
  13. I currently live outside of WNY and have been a Sunday Ticket holder for the past 8 years. I have to move to temporary housing in about 6 weeks and will only have cable and internet access. Does anyone know a way I can watch the games via the internet Pseudo-live (I typically watch the games on an hour delay so I can fast forward through the commercials)? As I am not in Buffalo, it is easy to avoid any updates.
  14. Beebe was not capable of being a top 2 receiver - even after he left the Bills. He was one-dimensional. If you put Evans opposite of Reed and Lofton, his numbers would be staggering. Outside of this year his counterparts were #3's at best. Now that he is in a system with a real coordinator, a decent QB and a good WR opposite him, let's see what kind of damage he does.
  15. Lofton's HOF #'s were put up before he came to Buffalo (1978-1987). His play in Buffalo was good, but if you look at those years in a vacuum, he was an above average receiver.
  16. How could you take any historic 3rd stringer over the Chroise?
  17. Beebe over Evans - are you kidding? Beebe was fast and entertaining, but couldn't run routes other than a fly. His career highs were 40 receptions, 554 yards and 6 TD. Evans worst year (2005) he went 48-743-7.
  18. Conlan was very overrated and always made tackles 5 yards down the field. He benefited from playing with superior players around him and was not very good. Evans and Lofton are 2 different style of receivers. If you ever take a look at Lofton's stats - they are not spectacular: 1990 - 35-712-4 1991 - 57-1072-8 1992 - 51-786-6 He was a bigger threat than anything. I could see the argument for Evans, but that's why I think they are a wash.
  19. Defense Stroud over Wright Schobel over Seals (not over Hanson) Poz over Conlin Ellison over Bennett - just kidding McGee over Jackson (but I would take Odomes over McGee or McKelvin) Whitner and Jones are a wash (Leonard Smith was better than either) Offense Owens and Reed are a wash Evans and Lofton are a wash Tasker was not the number 3, Beebe was. who is again a wash with Reed. I would take Eric Wood over Glenn Parker at RG, 90's Bills OL win the rest Right now I would take Metz over Nelson, but this may change over time. Oh and how can we forget - Hamden over Gilbert... Punter Moorman - no doubt
  20. DJ to address at 2:30. Hope nothing serious with either, but especially Hangartner. http://blogs.buffalobills.com/
  21. This is going to play out interestingly for Stupar. The primary reason Stupar was carried on the practice squad was that they had 4 TEs they wanted to keep of which 2 were eligible for the practice squad. Given Nelson's pedigree, they would have never risked him on the practice squad. With Stupar now on the roster, he will no longer be practice squad eligible (I am assuming he will be in the minimum game threshold). What turned out to be a great move by Brandon, the team was able to keep all 4 TEs. I would expect Stupar to supplant Fine as the #2 TE within the next 3-4 weeks. Next year will be a different story if all 4 guys return.
  22. Why does everyone keep thinking he can't carry the load? He is 215 lbs (same as Lynch, though 2 inches taller).
  23. Okay - I need to chime in... Lynch is a beast and Jackson is a gamer. Everyone thinks Lynch should get the starting position because he runs hard and he is penciled in as the starter. The fact of the matter is if Jackson puts up another big game next week, it will be a front office failure to put Lynch back in as the starter. Jackson is the hot hand. Not to compare this to the Flutie/Johnson debate (because comparatively speaking Lynch and Jackson are both great), but Lynch should not just get his spot back because he was the starter. He is a good back and has the pedigree, but Jackson is just a winner. Every time he starts he puts up 100+ yards of offense. Putting Lynch back in will further prove whether or not DJ is the same old DJ or really playing to win. This is a major league decision and to bench your high payed starter in favor of the no-name reserve is a decision made by a winner. Mark my word, when Jackson erupts again next week, DJ will have the decision of his life. Either way you look at, if AVP is as good as we think he is, he will get them both in the game as they are 2 of the top 4 offensive weapons on the team.
  24. Once the ball hits midfield, IMO, you should be planning to go for it on 4th down every time. Whether or not you do is a different story. However, if your players are aware that the coach will go on 4th down (i.e. the Pats*) you can strategically play 3rd down differently. If you have a 3rd and long (10+), rather than trying to force the 1st down, you may be willing to get close if that is all that is available. For example, if I am TE and sitting with a 3rd and 12 knowing that DJ is sure to punt if don't get the first down, I am going to stretch the field and pass long. Given the defense knows this, this is a low probability pass, risks sacks and turnovers. However if I am Tom Brady* in the same situation knowing that BB* is going to go for it on 4th and under 5, I am more willing to take what the defense gives me and throw underneath (7-8 yard range) which is a high probability completion. At that point, the receiver may still get the first down after the catch, but if he doesn't, you have a 4th and short. Ultimately, you will get burned on 4th downs, but it will work more often than not.
