  1. One of the best side effects of a regime change is that the new coaches and GMs have allegiance to no-one. This is a huge factor, as now draft and contract levels mean nothing and the players will now truly be judged on talent. This could be huge for players like Steve Johnson and Jonathan Stupar, and disastrous for players like McCargo and Hardy (not to say that Johnson and Stupar are going to start and McCargo and Hardy are going to be cut, just using them as an example). The playing field is now level and every position and roster spot (with the exception of the secondary) is up for grabs. The competition will definitely push this team to the next level...
  2. OK - After a little research, the Towson Tigers are a Division I-AA team in the "Colonial Conference" and went a whopping 7-4 in 2006 - the year before Bushrod was drafted. Not a team I would be looking for starting left tackles... tells you something doesn't it.
  3. Hmmm That would be Charlie Johnson from OK State (6th Round) and Jermon Bushrod in the 4th Round from.....TOWSON?!?!?!?
  4. This is the type of player who could be a perfect fit for Buffalo. An absolute standout for a sub-par team. He was snubbed for the Senior Bowl. He's going to play with something to prove. Typically, the "top ranked" tackles don't always work out so well (we all remember Mike Williams) and often times players lost in the shuffle because they played for a subpar team turn into great players (we all remember the "House"). The draft experts always rates players based on where they played and who their competition is. Just because you went to a top school, like Texas, and played well against your conference doesn't mean you are that good. There are so many "good players" on garbage teams that get lost in the shuffle, solely on where they play.
  5. What is his status? Last year he was let go after failing a physical on a surgically repaired knee. Prior to that, he was a gamer. Although small, he may be a good ILB in a 3-4 defense (even if only a reserve). Does anyone know if he has any chance of returning this year?
  6. For a while it used to be Bills QB day, but once Bledsoe wore out his 1/2 season of glory, it returned back to Jim Kelly Day...
  7. Sunday is Jim Kelly Day, so don't forget to get your loved ones flowers, candy or Bills paraphernalia to celebrate...
  8. I am not trying to make a case for Trent Edwards as I think the concussions have his brains a little scrambled, but... Did anyone notice the amount of times that Drew Brees and Peyton Manning "checked down" in the Super Bowl. Both QB's had a very high completion percentage primarily from hitting the dink and dunk passes and keeping the chains moving and not making mistakes. They obviously were able to hit the medium throws as well, but rarely did they stretch the field. I would love to know the YAC statistics of the game. The check down is clearly a necessary part of the spread offense. Especially when you are sending 5 in patterns. If we do go to a spread offense, the only QB on our roster who really has the high accuracy is Edwards and if we can build an offense around Fred Jackson, he may be viable for opening day. However, I think we really need to look elsewhere as Fitz, Brohm and McNabb do not fit the bill.
  9. #1 Beneficiary if we go to a spread offense - Fred Jackson. He is the absolute perfect back for a spread offense. He is great at reading holes fast and more importantly, he runs routes as has as good of hands as most receivers. He could go for 2000 rushing and receiving combined if they go to a spread. (Also, you could also kiss Mr Lynch and his dancing good bye as his style of running and his Robert Royal like hands are not very useful in this style of offense.)
  10. Not in the NFL.
  11. "Not playing again in" Chan-uary Gailey Buddy Nix'd my team
  12. The sad thing is that Morris was never properly utilized until he went to New England...
  13. How could you even compare it to the 2000 Bills Draft. Look at these guys - outside of the 5th round, you can't get much better... simply unstoppable... Rd Sel # Player Position School 1 26 Erik Flowers DE Arizona State 2 58 Travares Tillman FS Georgia Tech 3 89 Corey Moore OLB Virginia Tech 4 121 Avion Black WR Tennessee State 5 156 Sammy Morris RB Texas Tech 6 194 Leif Larsen DT Texas-El Paso 7 233 Drew Haddad WR Buffalo 7 251 DaShon Polk LB Arizona
  14. Even if 32 wasn't retired, who would ever want it. It is forever cursed.
  15. Wasn't Simpson's 32 retired? Has it been unretired?
  16. I'll agree that Burroughs was solid, but not better than Odomes. As for the rest of your list: Clements and Winfield were both solid guys, especially against the run (where Odomes was lacking), both were decent coverage guys (not as good as Odomes) - each also were 1 time pro-bowlers. McGee is average at best. He is a great return man and makes some flashy plays, but gets burned way to often. Burris was all hype and never amounted to his 1st round status.
  17. Nate Odomes was the best corner this team has had in the past 30 years. The problem is, he was never given the recognition he deserved. He was on a star-studded defense that was typically in a soft zone, allowing teams to throw. When the team went into man coverage, he basically shut down everyone he went up against.
  18. Billy Joe Hobert and Eddie Robinson... Seriously - unquestionably Kelly and Smith, they are the two biggest lynchpins in the teams history on either side of the ball. Other people to consider (but still can't compare) Offense - OJ Simpson - Cookie Gilchrist - Reggie McKenzie - Kent Hull Defense - Ted Washington - Pat Williams - Nate Odomes
  19. Clemens is worse than all 3 QB's we currently have. Living in NYC area, its hard not to be exposed to the Jets (especially when your boss has been a Jets season ticket holder since he was 8). He is not worth a look.
  20. +1 - What do Welker and Harrison have in common as well - hands of glue. If you have hands like them, it doesn't matter who throws to you. Plus, if the QB knows the WR is going to catch it, he will get more looks.
  21. If Favre retires at the end of this year, his last pass for each of the 4 franchises he played for will be an interception... just an interesting statistic.
  22. LT - Levitre QB - Fitzpatrick
  23. I wonder if anyone has ever calculated if you have a better chance of success being a UFA as opposed to being drafted in a late round. The logic is as follows: If you are a late rounder, typically the team scouts the player, watches game film and then sees their performance at a combine. Typically these people won't have a material interview. Often times these people are down on the list and are drafted as "someone" in the war room approves. In comparison, typically the UFA's are given the opportunity to have a "try out" where they specifically showcase their skills to the entire scouting staff actually giving them more exposure to the people that matter. Obviously there are more UFA's to choose from, but having the more personalized "interview" process will allow the coaching staff to better assess whether a player fits the system. Plus, from a contract perspective these people are cheaper. If the Bills were smart, they would trade all of their lower draft picks for a 2nd or 3rd rounder.
  24. We need this guy... and the girl that warms him up...
  25. Doesn't everybody do the bench at the combine???
