OFFICIAL GAME THREAD: BILLS v. 'PHINS 10/4/2009
MaineMoxie replied to The Senator's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What I don't get is how this team can play so well against New England (who, admittedly, played terribly) and, in recent years, Dallas on MNF, San Diego last year, etc. and then come out an lay a freakin' egg against teams like the Dolphins who are 0-3 and starting a brand new QB. -
OFFICIAL GAME THREAD: BILLS v. 'PHINS 10/4/2009

The most frustrating thing is that this is going to be the status quo for awhile. -
Yeah, all two of them.

Jeez, Az must be using a walker and hearing aide by now. -
Trent 4th in QB rating after 2 games...
MaineMoxie replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree that the NFL's QB rating system is whacked, but Edwards ranks well in Football Outsiders' weird system as well. He's 5th in Passing DVOA which ranks QBs based on their value-per-play and he's 8th in Passing DYAR which is their total value. He's actually 1st in QB Rushing DYAR (4th in DVOA). Whatever you may think of their stats, they're very different from the NFL's which adds credence to the claim that he's playing well. Unfortunately, I don't think they had the QB ratings last year (or at least I can't find the archives of them) so I can't compare to his performance at the same time last season. -
Why I'd like to see a Firing
MaineMoxie replied to JOHNNYFAIRPLAY's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Look, before Monday I was ready to see DJ and everyone dumped, but the Bills played an awesome game on Monday. I think AVP called a great game and, for having the cajones to fire Turk when he did, I think it buys DJ a few more weeks. As for Bobby April, I think it was the right call. Some impartial (i.e. non-Bills fan) friends of mine pointed out that he was right to bring it out since it ran more time off the clock and could have even deprived New England of an extra clock stoppage depending on how they played it. There was 2:06 on the clock. If he brings it out, the clock would run down to the two-minute warning. If he kneels, the Bills have to take a snap before the two-minute warning. That said, Fewell's defensive play calling was the reason we were in that position to begin with (same thing with the Dallas game two years ago). After playing well against the Pats all night, they played soft once they went up by 11. I never understood why they just didn't stick with what was working the whole game. -
This has got to be the worst defeat

And the human cardiovascular system was not built to withstand this many gut-wrenching losses. -

At this point, I'd rather lose 41-3. Seriously. -
Gosh dangit, I'm still excited for Monday

I'm with you. I never even considered canceling my DirecTV this year, unlike some other folks on this board. Maybe they'll suck this year and maybe they won't, but with TO they'll at least be interesting. I just wish he'd yap at Belicheat some more. I hate the Pats and I live in New England so I'm surrounded by Pats fans. Blech! -
Yeah, Roethlisberger is underpaid. I can't remember the exact stat, but at one point last night Al Michaels said the Steelers were almost at the bottom in how many sacks they allowed last year which proves it is possible - though very rare - to be successful with a bad O-line. You just need the right quarterback...
-
See, now THAT is an interesting statistic.

Ok, this seems like a great alternative to Directv

That's technically illegal. SCOTUS ruled on that over ten years ago. No one - landlords, local governments, etc. - can block you from putting up a satellite dish. Nonetheless, the price sounds pretty good. My only problem would be inadvertently finding out the result of the game before watching it. -
bills possibly interested in vick

Amen to that, bro. Vick can kiss my a$$. I don't care if he's as good as Tom Brady. -
Anybody notice that the only "warm" weather teams on the list are Dallas and Oakland? The other 8 locations can get pretty brutal winter weather.
-
No kidding. In Boston that would buy you a slab of concrete.

5 at this point (and 3 when you replied). That said, I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't get signed. Leftwich and Culpepper had trouble signing after getting dumped and you could argue both are better than Losman, though Culpepper is older. Losman was a horrible NFL QB but he seems like a nice guy and he tried to do good things for the city so I feel bad for him. I do think he has more of a leadership mentality than Edwards does - or at least more than Edwards has shown so far.

As well they should be. Only in very, very rare circumstances are encyclopedias - even printed ones - considered legitimate sources under normal research guidelines.

Dude, that would be awesome, but it's a little odd that there's NOTHING else out there on it. Let's just hope Clayton got this one right.

I should add that, buried toward the bottom of the article, is this quote:
-
There's another problem in comparing these two. The NFL has changed dramatically since Bruce was playing. In the early '90s it was not all that common to have an offensive lineman over 300 pounds. Nowadays they're almost all over 300. Here's an interesting article about the topic with some hard stats to back it up: http://www.palmbeachpost.com/sports/conten...eight_1029.html

MaineMoxie RB/FS University at Buffalo Age: 35 5' 7.5" 160 lbs. Once ran an 11.1 second split on the first leg of a 4x100 relay in HS. Yep. That's about it. Oh, and studied the dynamics of a moving football as a senior project in college (mechanical engineering). PRO In full tackle, no pads games in high school, would frequently resort to tripping opposing players, especially the ones twice his size. Was known to wrap himself around a few people's legs in an effort at tackling them. While not terribly fast in a sprint, is very quick and light on his feet if alcohol consumption is kept to a minimum. As a physicist, mathematician, and engineer, could calculate optimal plays. Is extremely loyal. Like a dog. Sort of. CON Can be a little gassy at times, especially after feeding on beans. Is a physicist, mathematician, and engineer. Would you really want one of any of these on your team? SUMMARY MaineMoxie bleeds all things Buffalo. Has dutifully indoctrinated his children into the Bills religion. Shells out insane amounts of money to pay for the extortion that is NFL Sunday Ticket solely for the purpose of watching his Bills lose heartbreaking games. Did we mention he's a sadomasochist? PROJECTION Don't underestimate his complete insanity. Insane people are dangerous. That can be both good and bad.
