Bills vow Doug Marrone will make them winners
San Jose Bills Fan replied to papazoid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It was a well-researched and well-written piece by Les Carpenter. It's hard to imagine that anyone with a pulse who cares about the Bills would not be excited after having read it. However some people are downright reptilian. -
So I hear there's some football on tonight
San Jose Bills Fan replied to Just Jack's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I hate the Dolphins and think they wasted a lot of money in free agency. But if you were to read national NFL stuff you know how the media often equates money spent in free agency with winning the offseason. I'm skeptical that they will improve very much. -

So Miami was one of the most aggressive teams in free agency this year. They were one of the winners of the offseason. Tannehill was taken out mid-series? -

You're still wrong. It was heckling, not booing. -
Astro-Notes: Aug 4 Practice

Yep. My thought is that the offense dominated yesterday's session, especially in goal line, and the defense was given a little speech by Mike Pettine about it. Good theory? -

Wow. Tannehill took a shot there. Dallas has been decimated by injuries to both lines. -

They'll probably be pretty good though. -

Usually a fumbled handoff is the QBs fault. Not this time. -

One of the worst unis in the NFL definitely got worse. I'm still wondering why Kaepernick would wear a Dolphins cap. -

The 2013 Training Camp Thread: Week 2
San Jose Bills Fan replied to San Jose Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Thanks for the recap. Two things that jumped off the video of EJ's college career: 1) He's a natural thrower. He's not clunky or mechanical. He's a smooth athlete who has instinctively good mechanics. That's in contrast to many QBs these days who've attended passing academies and seem mechanical in their mechanics. 2) His height, length, hands, and athleticism allow him to place the ball really well, deep or short. There are some QBs in the league who really struggle with the screen pass which (counter-intuitively) is underrated in its difficulty. It's difficult because you're inviting pass rushers into your face so that you can lob a short area throw into a tight, high-traffic area. It's a hard play to execute but EJ with his size and skills will excel at looking off then finding and hitting his screen receiver. Not having seen the Bills using the "stay low" bar in training camp might have been the luck of the draw for you but there was video of the Bills using that piece of equipment at last year's training camp. Just so you know. -

To Rubes' post, the other thing is that I don't think Growney Stadium holds much more than 3000 fans so not only is it a live scrimmage versus a practice but the venues are different sizes too. I'm getting pretty excited about tomorrow night's scrimmage. Live bullets and according to Leo Roth's piece in the D & C, Marrone is licking his chops. http://www.democratandchronicle.com/article/20130804/SPORTS0103/308040034/Leo-Roth-Doug-tw-bills-drive-Marrone-tries-toughen-up-his-Buffalo-Bills Actually the fans weren't booing Fitz. They were heckling Trent. -
The Bills are self-scouting
San Jose Bills Fan replied to San Jose Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What's unstated in the article is whether the Bills have done this previously and whether this is a common practice among NFL teams. I love the concept but without that knowledge, it's hard to place a significance on the self-scouting. The other thing of note on the article (I'm surprised no one has commented on it) is that there is no byline. -
Guard position battle not going so hot
San Jose Bills Fan replied to MClem06's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Perfectly stated argument. When you add the above to "mistake signings," the moral of the story is that it's better to overpay for someone you know is good than someone you hope is gonna be good. Also it's better to pay and keep your own guys instead of overpaying to get other team's guys. I understand the reasons why the Bills let him walk but I would have been perfectly fine with re-signing Andy at the same cost as the Titans paid. -
“They’ve been reviewing the practice tape already,” said Bills Director of Pro Personnel Tom Gibbons. “They can watch practice video remotely through our video system. So they’ve seen pretty much everything before they’ve arrived.” “The whole value of this for the scouts is to know the caliber of player we have here presently so when we go out in the fall we try to see how we can make that position better,” said National Scout Chuck Cook. “We get a real good feel about what we have and then we’ll go out in the fall and at two-a-days in the fall start breaking down the guys in the college ranks to try to make us better.” The rankings and evaluations from the scouting department on Buffalo’s current players will be used as a form of cross reference with the evaluations of the coaching staff. http://www.buffalobills.com/news/article-2/Bills-college-scouts-ranking-the-roster/34192f75-f0ad-434c-8b69-621b1e6306a5

Kolb injured running out to field?
San Jose Bills Fan replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Matt Barkley is not getting cut. The talk out of Philly is that it's more likely that the loser of the battle between Foles and Vick could be released and that the Eagles like Barkley and view him as a quarterback of the future. -

Saturday's Bills Roundup: http://www.buffalobills.com/media-center/videos/ Apparently EJ had another good practice and the Bills did a goal-line sequence featuring live hitting. The Bills scored 7 TDs on 8 goal-line plays and EJ showed perfect touch and placement on a pass to eligible tackle Thomas Welch. -

Here's a 3:22 video feature by John Murphy on Bills tackle Cordy Glenn. http://www.buffalobills.com/media-center/videos/Bills-Focus-Cordy-Glenn-Tackles-New-Challenges/c9208803-8a91-49c5-9099-d4e2b00ce028'>http://www.buffalobills.com/media-center/videos/Bills-Focus-Cordy-Glenn-Tackles-New-Challenges/c9208803-8a91-49c5-9099-d4e2b00ce028 Murphy talks to Marrone and Eric Wood about their views on Cordy and there's lots of iso video of Cordy in action in training camp practices. Stevie Johnson post-injury video: http://www.buffalobills.com/media-center/videos/ Coach Marrone's Saturday presser: http://www.buffalobills.com/media-center/videos/Coach_Marrone_on_Kolbs_Injury_Live_Hitting/97176301-4441-44f9-838e-1fdc923dd684 He speaks about Kolb's injury. -
Just re-upped for NFL Preseason Live
San Jose Bills Fan replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's 17 bucks. I consider that cheap. Since I quit smoking I've been saving hundreds of dollars every year. It's a small price to pay for my NFL vice. And as I said earlier, if you're a competitive fantasy football player, you can race through the week 3 condensed games in about 15 minutes each and have a really strong idea of what players are gonna have good seasons. Some people spend 17 bucks going to see a lousy movie. For my money I get to see about 50 preseason games, which boiled down is still a fair amount of decent football and a lot of good "scouting" information.
