  1. Agree NS. Holgorsen does not get a free pass on this at all. These are young men. He is their mentor. Their failure is his failure. And making remarks about a leadership void after they left doesn't speak well of him at all.
  2. Hopefully Nickell Robey makes the team as a nickel back and primary punt returner. He looked good there today. Chris White annihilated someone on kick coverage today… like he usually does. He and Corey Mac were quite the pair of wedge busters the last two years.
  3. Well Geno was tackled by the invisible turf monster in the Jets' preseason opener and sprained his ankle in the process. On this play where he hurt himself, he stumbled and looked to be a bit plumper than I remember him looking last year in Morgantown. And now everyone associated with the Mountaineer football program is talking about a lack of leadership during the 2012 season: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/08/11/geno-smiths-former-teammates-coach-lament-lack-of-leadership-in-2012/ The guy really is a marvelous talent but coming into camp out of shape (especially after all the rumors of his diva-esque behavior during team visits) and now this? That character assassination piece by ProFootballWeekly wasn't so far off the mark after all I guess.
  4. I have no problem with the topic. I just don't have concerns akin to the one you suggested although again, I could see where Philly fans could have these concerns.
  5. And that's what Marrone said yesterday when asked what he hoped the team would accomplish… to play aggressively and to win the game. I LOVE having a coach who wants to win preseason games instead of hedging and giving a lot of less-than-honest coachspeak.
  6. Very true. And Luck was pretty brilliant in the short time we saw him today. That kid is the real deal.
  7. OR, the best thing about the Tuel situation is that it shows how effective our new coaching staff's ability is. I mentioned this immediately after Tuel was signed and I watched the video highlights someone here posted of him: (The idiots will take this and run the wrong way with it) but Tuel's throwing mechanics are eerily similar to a certain Buffalo Bills Hall of Fame quarterback. It's actually uncanny.
  8. All I know is that Marrone spent 4 years kicking around as a professional football player before spending 7 years as an NFL coach. I think this concern would be more validly applied to a guy like Chip Kelly who never spent even a single day in the NFL.
  9. Here's another subject which hasn't really been broached much in the wake of today's refreshing victory: The difference between optimism for optimism's sake (wishing and hoping) as opposed to having a legitimate sense of optimism. I've been feeling the latter since the coaching search in Glendale. It's the first time I've felt this way in a very long time.
  10. Well that's the question and it took until your post to raise it. Does the play of the Bills have any effect on Byrd's disposition towards the team? If the Bills blow Minnesota out of the stadium on Friday, does it effect how Byrd views this impasse?
  11. And this is why after one post of calling them a playoff team, I've reverted to characterizing them as a wildcard team instead. They won an inordinate number of close games last year so they could possibly backslide. It's possible that the Bills will be competing with the Colts for a wild card berth.
  12. Interestingly the NFL has a pilot program for this season that is moving in the direction of teams sharing complete medical records of players. They took him to Tempo. They made him a big offer. In my recollection it was never clear if San Diego's offer was bigger than the Bills offer or that Meachem just wanted to play in San Diego rather than Buffalo. Regardless, the Bills interest in Meachem during early free agency makes them look bad, IMO. But it's all water under the bridge.
  13. Plucked the ball with his hands (my impression was that he was a clunky ball athlete), used his body well, showed his size and speed combo…
  14. Nix was way off on this one. Glad it worked out for us.
  15. If we're to have a fair discussion, your's is a fair point. It's also a fair point that Indy was a wild card team last year and was playing at home. In other words our reserves were not supposed to be dominating their reserves. Also I thought our starters held their own to Indy's.
  16. This says a lot about the talent of our young QBs. But what does it say about the coaching staff? Two rookie QBs and numerous rookie receivers…
  17. Hi Bill. I'm having a hard time digesting all this euphoria. Trying to stay grounded. So far failing. Kudos to you for having rationale thoughts!
  18. Yeah Easley was a revelation. Now we know what Nix saw in him.
  19. On numerous occasions Tuel changed formations, corrected teammates who were incorrectly lined up, and generally seemed to have a mastery of the offense. I was more than impressed.
  20. I try to always be realistic so my pre-preseason views of the Brad Smith, Kevin Kolb, and Jeff Tuel situations are grounded in caution and conventional thinking. I felt before the game that Brad Smith would make the team, and that Kevin Kolb could never be cut. I'm currently re-evaluating those opinions. I think Kolb will still make the roster but I'm leaning away from Brad Smith making the team now that I've actually seen some of the youngsters play. And yes, Easley is looking more and more like "found money."
  21. Very few holes and only 3.6 yards per carry. But again I love that we ran the ball 38 times. There were 44 pass attempts. A total of 82 plays run.
  22. He doesn't have much wiggle to his game. One area of weakness today is that the run blocking has been average to poor. In spite of that Hackett/Marrone insist on running the ball in a healthy ratio. I LOVE that.
