  1. One are where a Bills strength dovetails nicely with a Jets weakness is our LDE vs their ROT. Apparently ROT was a big problem for them last year and whomever mans that spot for Jersey will be lined up against Mario Williams.
  2. The bigger issue for me is how so few people read an entire topic before posting. I understand how this could happen in a longer thread but this topic isn't even two pages long. I implore people to read more and post less… or at least read first before posting.
  3. And driving his car off the cliff was shortly after he was released by law enforcement following his arrest for domestic violence. That was the early warning sign that life after football was perhaps not going so well. However like Duerson, Seau had been making public appearances and for the most part, seemed like the same guy he had always been.
  4. Great point. Under Jauron the team had marginal talent and it seemed that the few good players would wear down until they finally broke down. Also, great username. You're a Bills AND a Lions fan? Or is the name simply a play on the Bills and billions?
  5. I assumed it had to do with performance enhancing drugs but I really don't know at all. It just struck me that way.
  6. 1) Chixley said they would carry a kickoff specialist. If the kid plays as well during the preseason as they expect him to, he'll make the team. 2) Bobby April wasn't even considered for the vacant head coaching position in Buffalo so there was no way he was gonna stay unless there was some outlandish contract offer from ownership that the new regime would have to accept without having any involvement in the decision. In other words it wasn't going to happen. 3) Contrary to the old adage, special teams is not one-third of the game, IMO. While special teams does decide a few games here and there, it certainly does not decide one-third of the games. If you have average units, then the vast majority of the time, your offense and defense will determine whether you win or lose. The Bills unit is in the top 3rd more or less so that is sufficient. I personally would find special teams a non-issue as long as they're not in the bottom half of the league. 4) This roster was both short on talent in the beginning of 2010 and shorthanded due to injuries over the last two years. I'll say the injuries will get better simply because they can't get worse. In addition the Bills talent has been improving and the better players you have, the better your special teams are. Now there are some good players who suck at special teams and some good special teams players who suck from scrimmage but by and large, if you're truly a good football player, you will be better on special teams than a worse football player. In other words, as this team becomes more talented, their special teams will improve. Bottom line for me, this team will likely be in the top 3rd to top quarter in the league in special teams and that's just fine. The thing that could kill them is if Lindell or Moorman (or whomever the kicker and punter end up being) really suck this year. Having an undependable kicker or a lousy punter? That could sabotage the special teams.
  7. There was a guy who worked security at a summer concert series in SF who looked like this. He died of a massive heart attack at the age of 37.
  8. The primary story… Pittsburgh area kid so they broke the story. Former 7th rounder… presumably played under Wanny: http://triblive.com/sports/steelers/1330315-85/dickerson-bills-pitt-tryout-2010-allegheny-buffalo-choice-dorin-draft
  9. I'm seeing a developing situation here. If Tannehill = Talleywhacker, Then Tanney = ? Talley? Does Tanney even know who Talley is? Vince Young didn't know who Talley was and the Bills ended up not signing him. If the kid knows what's good for him he should memorize every player that ever played in the NFL before he legally changes his name and is issued number 56. I'm gonna lie down for awhile now.
  10. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/05/05/bills-trying-out-2010-combine-freak-dorin-dickerson/ "Former Pitt tight end/receiver Dorin Dickerson generated pre-draft buzz when he ripped up the 2010 NFL Combine, running a 4.4-flat forty-yard dash with a 42-inch vertical at 226 pounds. But Dickerson has made no on-field contributions since, bouncing between practice squads and having yet to record a reception. The Buffalo Bills are going to kick his tires."
  11. Did Dunkin Donuts ever use him as an endorser? That would have been a slam dunk.
  12. Hey Dogma.

Glad you joined us. We can never have too many knowledgable and erudite Bills fans in our community. I'm particularly looking forward to your player evaluations. Welcome aboard.

  13. Then there was the trade for Albert Haynesworth…
  14. As the saying goes, men are just grown-up boys. Then when you add the internet, it takes it to a whole other level.
  15. Geez Kelly, can't I say anything without you interrupting?
  16. Well dogma, I'm glad you signed on and I know you have a lot to offer the board here but the sledding can be pretty rough at first, especially if you're articulate, knowledgable, and opinionated. As one of our posters says, "It's a tough board for tough people."
  17. Who is Brown? We were talking about Brooks… does that help? You were making the point that the best CB blitzers are big corners… Ronde Barber is the leading sacker among CBs in NFL history. You give the Drew Brees explanation which is fine. But the second most prolific sacker among NFL CBs is Ray Crockett and he played at 5'10" and 185 pounds. I'm not completely buying your size argument for blitzing cornerbacks although all things being equal… It seems like quickness, speed, instincts, and timing are the main factors.
  18. 1) You've gone back and forth on this several times so which one is it? Were you the scout or was your Dad?. I don't care how many hours you claim to have watched by his side… if you didn't get a paycheck for doing it, you're not an NFL scout… And now coaches are not good film evaluators? According to you maybe but you seem to have an inflated value of your own abilities while looking down on the evaluation abilities of virtually everyone else. It's a strange world where a fan can make the claim that an NFL scout is not a good "film evaluator." It's also a fact that Peters has played 42 of 48 games for Philly during which time Wood has played 33 of 48 games for Buffalo.
  19. To those wondering (iike myself), here's Alan Pergament on Rodney. http://stilltalkintv.com/2012/04/the-news-suspends-sports-reporter/
  20. Hit the opposing Head Coach in the groinage from the opposite sideline.
  21. I think we've established that being nominated to the Pro Bowl is not the same thing as being a Pro Bowl player, much less an All Pro. But I have another comment on this post. You can't assume that Peters would have ruptured his achilles had he stayed in Buffalo. So I guess you mention it to weigh it against his future contributions. However for the record to date, Peters has played in 42 of 48 games for Philly. Wood has played in 33 of 48 games for Buffalo over that same period. Neither player is guaranteed to play another game in the NFL although it looks more likely that Wood will play sooner than Peters. But when you write: "Now that he ruptured his Achilles, he will have missed 22 games since he joined the Eagles only 4 years ago" that's putting a bit of spin on things. I thought the Bills handled the Peters situation very amateurishly (Dockery and Walker contracts) but I don't mourn the loss of Peters either. Regardless it certainly is debatable whether dealing him away was a good decision. Back to Florence, he seemed to be a good year/bad year player and it seems like he twice had excellent seasons after which he was awarded a lucrative new contract, only to bomb and subsequently get cut the following year. I might be wrong on that but I seem to remember that. Anyways, Florence is a good man and a good football player. And I'll always think of him as a good Buffalo Bill. All the best to Drayton and I hope he joins Meachem and Roscoe in San Diego. We'll hold onto Merriman for the time being.
  22. I think that with Brown's athleticism and knack for big plays (a developed timing instinct?), he could be a great blitzing cornerback. And FWIW, the cornerback with the most career sacks, Ronde Barber (27 sacks) is listed at 5'10" and 184 pounds.
