  1. I've always maintained that timing a guy on a track is very different from how fast a guy is when wearing 10-15 pounds of movement-restricting equipment during the heat of battle. As to Kyle Williams, that was awesome "I'm not even gonna answer that question… " Freaking flip turn!
  2. I'm not trying to be an a-hole but I'm not following the argument. Let's start with a premise we can probably all agree upon… the oddsmakers are trying to make money. If we accept that, what is their strategy? That is what I would like to understand.
  3. Hey, Kerry Collins made 2 Pro Bowls, took the Panthers to the NFC Championship game and the Giants to the Super Bowl… Maybe you didn't connect my dots and mishandled my "errant throw" like a Donte Whitner dropped interception. My point was that the game will be made safer (from the top down) which will allay the fears of enough parents that football will survive. I know that cultural shifts can have big impacts on the popularity of sports. I was born in 1961, not yesterday. In addition to boxing, horse racing was also a very popular sport at one time. Baseball used to be much more popular than football. Those sports declined for various reasons. I believe football will survive and thrive for the reasons I mentioned and for other reasons… some having to do with socioeconomics. One other thing that turned many people off to boxing was that it became more and more fragmented and corrupt with no clear governing body (at one point there was the WBC, WBA, IBF, NABF, and others … ) a sport that was run by promoters such as Don KIng and Bob Arum… a sport where often the two best fighters in a weight class didn't fight each other because there was no governing body mandating that they do so. Boxing degenerated into a mockery of a sport. Boxing was/is their own worst enemy. The NFL on the other hand, is the best run professional sport in North America, if not the world. Under Goodell the NFL is not hiding their heads in the sand but rather, anticipating problems and confronting them head on.
  4. So it's not just me. Good. That would equate to a 10.936 time in the 100 meters which is pretty good with football equipment and a football. FWIW, he was tied for 7th fastest WR at the combine. http://footballsfuture.com/2012/combine/wr.html As an authority on being snarky, easy on the attitude man! No cause for that.
  5. Well look. I was sorely disappointed in Brad Smith last year but there were some clear, extenuating circumstances. On top of that, I do trust the Bills football guys so if they see something in him, who am I to doubt them? Smith actually has elite measurables, a good record with the Jets, and a very decorated college career. So you weigh that against his disappointing year. I hope I'm right too… cause I LOVE BEING RIGHT!!! edit: And you add Gailey's work with Kordell Stewart and there's that, too. He and Lee know how to use an athletic quarterback.
  6. BTW, thanks for posting the link. They're never gonna give up the real juicy stuff but it was still interesting.
  7. LOL. I'm being too harsh but I'm tiring of people dogging on Cordy Glenn and Eme's been one of those.
  8. Thanks Uncle. I've watched that package before and it doesn't really change my opinion. But I guess I'm in the minority here so it's likely that I'm just wrong.
  9. I do think he looks fast but I thought based on everything I'd read about the guy that he would look even faster. We'll see how he does against NFLers soon enough.
  10. First of all to the bolded above, what is that? The counterpoint to much of what you said is that constant assertions by others that having a guy like Brad Smith saves money and roster spots because he can play more than one position. Like I said already, Brad Smith had one pass attempt last year. David Lee is our new QB coach… he's virtually the man who invented the Wildcat. And again, Brad Smith will have the benefit of an actual offseason in the teams facilities, unlike last year. Smith had one pass attempt last year. Now imagine the scenario where the defense has stacked the line of scrimmage to stop his run and he passes… to me that is the basis of the Wildcat… the defense doesn't know what to expect. As the critics have said, there was no surprise because Smith seemingly ran all the time. I would look for that to change.
  11. Getting back to the subject, a lot of football players time faster than they play. I guess when you put a helmet, shoulder pads, cleats, etc. on a guy and put a football in his hand, it changes things a bit. My impression on TJ Graham is that he is football fast… but not as fast as you would think one of the nation's top collegiate sprinters would be. Anyone else get that impression from watching his highlights?
  12. Personally I think there's a big upside to the Wildcat… if you have a guy who's a threat to throw. My recollection is that the Bills threw out of the Wildcat ONCE last year… which is surprising considering that Brad Smith set some passing records at Missouri. However that one throw looked like a sick, geriatric duck. I'm patient though… with a full offseason (unlike last year) and newly installed Wildcat authority David Lee as our QB coach, some of you might be singing a different tune next year. Patience. Now if the real issue isn't the Wildcat as much as it is gimmickry in general, well I can't help you there.
  13. With the Broncos. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/05/10/broncos-sign-drayton-florence/ Good Luck Drayton!
  14. Thanks for the link and the transcription, Fluffhead.
  15. Getting warmer but I don't think Quick. He had a nice yards per catch but based on his measurables and post-draft scouting reports, he doesn't sound like a vertical speed receiver to me. Yes, he seemed glad that Quick was taken before their 2nd round pick. As for your other point bolded, Nix did say he was the last of the 4. I would say Jenkins was one of the 4 and that Quick isn't.
  16. Undoubtedly. A guy like Vernon Davis is much more rare than a guy like Leodis McKelvin. That said, you start with the long list and then work down… everyone mentioned in this thread so far is worthy of mention.
  17. Yeah, not sure about the new guy. Seems like a troll or maybe just someone with a slew of bad opinions. Can't tell yet. But to the point, the Patriots draft seemed sucky to me.
  18. I know you're half joking because(ironically) as you suggest, it's the improvements in protective equipment which have made sports like football and hockey even more violent.
  19. Perhaps we should talk about names for our offensive line… or maybe the defensive line! I nominate our defense as the WMD Defense.
  20. What a disgrace to manhood. He threw that like a six-year old. What group of losers even lets someone like that play quarterback?
  21. I don't think that Maybin's holdout had any effect on the fact that he sucked. But I'm glad that veterans who've proven themselves are now getting the big money and that rookie salaries have been put in their proper place.
  22. I disagree with you Armchair. ERBF was objecting to the topic title, in particular the subtitle (if Ralph kicked it mid-season) not the topic itself. This is a subject I've given a lot of thought to and I'm sure lots of others have as well. I think it can be discussed as long as it's done in a respectful way. I do agree that the title should have been more respectful. Yeah, that would be good.
