  1. My impression of his spirit is just my instinct. I could be wrong again but I think largely what you see is what you get. JMO.
  2. I believe this place will remove old names and replace them with current names: http://www.sorrsports.com/ Also information-wise, if anyone buys the above jerseys, there is no one currently wearing #5 on the Bills. Number 51 is linebacker Chris White and #23 is Aaron Williams.
  3. Dude can be a real clown sometimes but I don't think there's ever been a question about his heart. Every time we've discussed diva receivers, CJ has been distinguished from the others by his sense of fun (and his ability to avoid the police blotter). I hope his life doesn't implode when he can no longer play football.
  4. Kinda funny… at least no one's talking about TJ Graham's "holdout." I guess it's virtually impossible to discuss this topic because we don't have access and there's no contact until training camp… so it's impossible for us to discuss how Gilbert or any of the linemen, have looked so far. Clearly the recurring theme in this topic is that the Bills seem pretty loaded on the D-line.
  5. One factor not yet mentioned (I think) that may help Troup is that with the team going to the 4-3 with an emphasis on quick, penetrating DTs, Troup will possibly benefit in two ways: 1) He can lose weight which would theoretically reduce the strain on his lower back. 2) He only has to play one gap and won't have to fight double teams which theoretically will reduce the strain on his lower back. In essence, the change in scheme will change Troup's role with the team and this change might dovetail with helping reduce his back problems. The question then becomes whether Troup has the quickness to play up to his new role.
  6. Apparently I'm the only one posting in this thread who thinks that salary might play a part in the roster decisions on the defensive line… and that's a good thing if the Bills have gotten past money being a factor in their roster decisions. However keep in mind that Spencer Johnson will make $3 million this year (the last of his contract) and that Dwan Edwards will be making $3.8 million this year. That's a LOT of money for reserve defensive linemen and I'm skeptical at best that these salaries won't factor into the final decisions.
  7. Nice anecdote about the sushi. Hopefully they squish the fish twice this year… I'm betting that they do.
  8. Happy 4th CowgirlsFan and all Bills brothers and sisters!
  9. One of the things that Coach Gailey recently said on the subject is that you can't design too much of the offense around both of them being on the field together because if one of them gets injured, it takes too big a chunk out of your playbook. I'm guessing you'll see the Freddy/CJ combo on less than one-third of the snaps… which is still way more than last year, which was never. TJ on the other hand had better end get his ass into camp on time or he'll see less than one-third of the snaps. Punk.
  10. Dawson vs Lamonica… Otis Taylor, Willie Lanier… just to name a very few. Lots of Hall of Famers on those two teams. What a sad day… Andy Griffith, Bep Davidson, and now Ben Davidson.
  11. I was kidding… not trying to change your mind. On your last point, one of the regulars here posted about recently meeting Flutie and how Flutie had only nice things to say about Buffalo.
  12. Did you ask them if there really was a "Little Old Lady from Pasadena?"
  13. So you concede defeat and I can claim unconditional victory? gnight, M
  14. Just bought 4 more tickets today for a grand total of 14. We're sitting in Lower Reserved 19 in row 17, seats 6-15 and 22-25 so we'll be pretty close to you. Obviously the Niners are a very solid team but our boys are gonna give em the fight of their lives. The first step to victory is to take over the stadium. http://www.seathound.com/venue/candlestick-park-58/football-seating-views/lower_reserved_19.html#section_map
  15. If I were Troup (or any of these guys) I wouldn't be sleeping well at night. Solid veterans Dwan and Spencer might be done in by their salaries but even if that comes to be, Troup will be competing with his classmate Carrington and former Bears 3rd rounder Jarron Gilbert. I think that's pretty stiff competition. Whomever are the last men standing, it feels good to view the depth chart compared to years past when we'd be depending on these guys to be our starters.
  16. Good points and I'm certainly not defending the Troup pick although like Lightning, I still hope that it works out for he and Carrington. But I will say it's tiresome hearing the constant refrain that we could have drafted Gronk instead of Troup and that's what evoked my comment. As for the truth of the matter, as per usual, we'll never know the truth about what teams had what grades on which players. BTW, it's amazing how Nix's first draft wasn't so great but his last two appear to be excellent. Valid reason or not, the optimists here (I include myself of course) like to point out that Modrak was still VP of College Scouting in Nix's first draft… was possibly marginalized by the time of the second draft (he was fired shortly thereafter)… and completely out of the picture by the time of Nix's third draft. Many pessimists here will not accept the decreasing level of Modrak's involvement as a valid reason for the increasing quality of Nix's draft. Some pessimists point out that if Nix really had his act together, he would have fired Modrak immediately upon becoming General Manager. However, that overlooks the point that it was Modrak who hired Nix back into the organization as Head National Scout. Surely Nix would have preferred that Modrak be an effective personnel man… certainly Nix would have preferred not having to fire the man who hired him. Certainly Nix wanted to give Modrak every opportunity to succeed.
  17. Not from memory but Preston is a very important figure in Buffalo Bills lore so I've studied up on him. BTW, during the game which led to Kay Stephenson's firing (against the Bud Grant-led Vikings) someone made a Preston Ridlehuber sign that was hung along the Bills Wall of Fame with the same sized letters. It was a damn funny sight during yet another dismal Bills loss. Talk about a very noteworthy if undistinguished career: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Preston_Ridlehuber
  18. They're not good seats but I'm thrilled to have end zone tickets to the Bills-Niners game on October 7th. The best seats I've had were not that great on the grand scale… I had front row, mid-court seats to a Washington Bullets-Philadelphia 76ers game in around 85 or 86. Playing in that game were Moses Malone, Julius Erving, Charles Barkley, Manute Bol, Maurice Cheeks, Andrew Toney, Bobby Jones, Jeff Ruland, and Gus Williams. It's been awhile since I've had mega-epic seats for an event.
  19. You were pretty young when Jimbo learned the same lesson… not to blame his teammates publicly. As for Flutie, I would say this: If a person saves your life (or the franchise that you live and die for), no matter what you think of that person, you should be unequivocally grateful. The good outweighs the bad by such a huge margin that to dwell on the bad is bad form. But that's just my opinion.
  20. FWIW, as of about 10 days ago, there were still 14 unsigned 3rd rounders… no other round has more than 3 unsigned draftees. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/conflict-continues-between-agents-team-192009786--nfl.html
  21. Yes, Booger. A lot of teams passed on Gronk because he missed his entire senior season… with back problems. Reports were that some teams had taken Gronk off their draft boards because he was viewed as a medical risk.
