  1. I agree. As I've said before, there is a temperament involved with being a good special teamer.. not every good football player can play teams and not every special teamer can contribute from scrimmage. But generally, the more talented a football team, the better their special teams tend to be.
  2. Ironically, I think they lose the October 7th game in San Francisco (which I've bought tickets for). The quality of opponent + the travel makes that game a tall order to fill.
  3. Considering I've predicted a 15-1 season for the Bills (hold the laughter), I'd say yes, the Bills will have a winning divisional record.
  4. Agreed. Some of those college players who have zero basis for being on a college campus could play in the developmental leagues instead. Football could be just like in hockey where there are numerous sources of player talent (college, juniors, semi-pro)
  5. Very interesting. Thanks Astro. I betcha he doesn't play on the punt team this year though.
  6. This is great… you older guys are making me feel young. What an epic post. Very personal yet something many of us can appreciate. Thanks for sharing.
  7. On the other hand, White is a much more instinctive player than Batten, played at a much higher level of college competition, and was a force on special teams before getting injured (2nd on the team in tackles despite playing only 8 games).
  8. Wood mentions finally… he would be my 3rd guess as an offensive captain after Fitz and Freddy.
  9. I don't know where PFF gets this from. When/where did Chandler play special teams? Maybe on the kick blocking (defense) teams? Also Chris White (who I love) was a demon on kick coverage as the stats show. His totals are very impressive especially considering he played in only 8 games. If McKillop beats out White for a roster spot, he'll have to be a special teams demon. Also I forgot about Carrington and his kick blocking prowess… which may give him the upper hand in the D-line competition we've been discussing lately. I would think that Carrington and Mario Williams would make a nice kick blocking tandem.
  10. I'm a big Stevie fan but for captain, I'd have to think that Freddy is still a more respected team leader.
  11. I Facebook but I don't Tweet. Been meaning to post some pics so maybe I'll post em in the gallery.
  12. I'm pleasantly surprised that there seems like there's still a lot of us. Someday we'll go the way of the WW II veterans… hopefully the kids will keep some of our memories alive. More than that, hopefully there'll be lots more great Bills moments to re-live in our future.
  13. You can worry about that scenario when you're actually… you know… DRAFTED!!!???
  14. This kind of oral tradition is actually kind of important. Our society is not based on oral tradition but it still plays an important part. Bills lore is good stuff and some younger people actually pay attention to this sort of thing out of their own curiosity so I'm all for your thread. Welcome to the board, btw. edit: However I'm not participating in your other topic about the Steve Johnson bounty. That interests me less, FWIW.
  15. In his first two years in the NFL Sanborn had two different special teams coaches… that's a pretty tough deal for a kid burdened with such high expectations. And not to dredge up our old arguments but why can't you understand that some players succeed because they land in ideal circumstances while other players aren't so lucky? Also, Sanborn attended a Jesuit high school so there's that too. For some, the road to greatness is a longer journey than for others. When the smoke clears on his career, Sanborn is gonna be one of the all-time greats… just remember who told you that.
  16. It really depends on when you became a fan. I started as a Bills fan after my family moved to Buffalo in 1967 when I was 6 years old. The Bills won 4 games in '67, and 1 game in '68. In '69 they won 4 games, in '70 they won 3 games, in '71 they again won only 1 game and in '72 they won 4 games. So in my first 6 years as a Bills fan, they won a grand total of 17 games. Awesome stuff. Looks pretty much like modern football too.
  17. Along with those hot peppers they poach in olive oil, some bread and butter, and the house red served in a juice glass. Mmmmm. Good cheap eats.
  18. Well… just watched the video. What a flood of memories. Names I haven't heard in years and years. I listened to the game on the radio but seem to remember a Courier Express photo of the Mulhmann miss. Thanks for posting.
  19. Dude is a franchise long snapper… sometimes I wonder about your football knowledge.
  20. I remember that game… not sure why. I believe Sam Wyche was the Bengals QB in that game.
  21. I just had a visual of Brady's head in a styrofoam butcher package with food service film stretched over it.
  22. I really have no idea who the last men standing will be… I just think that all things being equal that the veteran contracts of Spencer and Dwan put them on a bit of thin ice. Good point by both of you… the idea that their contracts might work against them more in 2013 than they would this year. Another good point, if we lose Spencer as a free agent at the end of his contract it might work in our favor somewhat.
