  1. Going along with the idea that it'll be a special teamer, I'll say Chris White.
  2. Apparently Freddy will start… CJ will backup. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/09/30/fred-jackson-will-start-c-j-spiller-looks-ready-to-back-him-up/
  3. Thurman Thomas is irrelevant at this point. The discussion is about playing with a damaged ACL vs playing entirely without one. John Elway and Hines Ward played without ACLs. I'm not sure what it means but it sure is damn interesting. Makes you wonder how many (if any) relatively anonymous players played without ACLs.
  4. Nothing in any of those articles about wanting to play in a 4-3?
  5. Well it's rare to play without one also… but of the three noteworthy individuals that did, two of them are in the Hall of Fame and one might be… Thurman Thomas, John Elway, and Hines Ward. Interesting stuff.
  6. So… playing without an ACL is harder or easier than playing with a damaged one?
  7. Did you notify the American Astronomical Society? I thought he said it was the red wine vinegar. Okay. I now of Bob and John's. But I've not sure about the others. Are you from the Falls?
  8. Well Thurman Thomas played his whole NFL career without an ACL so I guess it can be done.
  9. Anyways, you have hawks and doves on the same weekend (or as Hardly Strictly headliner Emmylou Harris would say, "Blackhawk and the White-winged Dove.") Kind of a strange mix… the post hippies and the military and military-philes. It's gonna be a great weekend regardless.
  10. I thought you lived near Candlestick now. Are you going to the game?
  11. I'm told the geometry of their flight patterns is more precise.
  12. Also, one of the premier music festivals in the United States will be taking place in Golden Gate Park that weekend. The Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival: http://www.hardlystrictlybluegrass.com/ It's free and really captures the post-sixties vibe of the city. There'll be incredible music played at beautiful stages throughout the park, excellent concessions, and the warm, liberal, open, accepting spirit, which still defines San Francisco today. I strongly suggest a trip to Hardly Strictly Bluegrass on the Friday or Saturday before the game.
  13. If the homerism is so rampant as some say, why is it that we're onto page 4 of this thread and no one has invoked the mysterious wrist injury as a reason for M. Williams' underwhelming performance so far? As usual there's a few apologists in this thread just as there are some hyper-critics but mostly good fair commentary. I'd like to see Williams do more and I think he will as the season progresses.
  14. To my point about Wanny sandbagging heretofore and hopefully unveiling a few new twists this week, I truly believe that. I think the Bills thought they could get the better of the Jets defense simply mano a mano and did very little tactically. I remember seeing very few blitzes and stunts. And it seems Wanny was obstinate and slow to adjust and I'm guessing that Gailey read him the riot act after the game… certainly he was much less than pleased in the postgame presser. To my comment about the Jets game, I saw what I saw. In subsequent weeks I would bet the Bills got a bit more into playing games as well as being less passive and more aggressive. As far as simplified defense goes and the whole concept of simpler = faster = better, I agree only to a point. This is still the NFL and tricking and fooling the opposing QB is still a very important ingredient in success. Dom Capers and Dick LeBeau are not known to run simple schemes, IMO. Their pressure schemes in particular are highly unpredictable and well-disguised (can't speak to the coverage cause I can't really see what's going on back there). My belief is that any successful defensive coordinator like the ones I mentioned, like Wade Phillips, are successful because they present immense mental challenges to the offense. I personally would like to see Wanny show that he's more than just a glorified college strategist. I'm rooting for that to happen and I'm attributing the simplicity so far to it being less than one month into his first regular season as DC. I'm hoping and expecting some new wrinkles against the Cheating Bastards***.
  15. I like his enthusiasm. To the casual observer, he seems to lack the gravitas needed to be an NFL Head Coach. Definitely speaking is not one of his big assets.
  16. p.s.-- Another factor could be that his body might still be able to hold up to the pounding but psychologically he is finished. And another factor could be that after signing his huge contract last year which makes him the highest-paid running back in the NFL (4 years, $53.5 million, $30 million guaranteed) that he has simply lost his motivation.
  17. According to all the stories when he signed with Jacksonville, Poz was offered the same money to stay but felt it was a better fit to play for a 4-3 team. So monetarily speaking the Bills certainly expressed the same desire to keep Poz as Jacksonville did to court him.
  18. I don't follow CJ and the Titans that closely. What jumps out at me is that he's listed at 5'11" and 191 pounds and that since his 438 touch season in 2009, his yards per carry has been diminishing (5.6 to 4.3 to 4.0 to 1.4). Is it possible that in his 5th season with 1423 career touches from scrimmage and 66 career kick returns that they guy's body is just done? Some guys have short careers and it doesn't help when you're undersized for your position either.
