  1. And actually interception percentage over an entire season or an entire career is a very valid metric as you're typically dealing with sample sizes where things such as tipped balls (pro and con) even out amongst the sample group.
  2. Sage, to me this feels different than before. Part of that is based on my last paragraph. It seems to me, more than ever before, that a lot of dark clouds are gathering. Like I said, I hope I'm wrong and that people can mock me for my pessimism after a rousing victory tomorrow. But like I said, this low point feels different than previous ones. Maybe it's just me.
  3. CardinalScotts, I'm certainly guilty this week of a lot of vitriol and venting about the Bills… mostly about Wanny. I'm one of those that have been deeply disillusioned and disappointed with this team as kobe808 points out, based not on their record… but on the two blowouts to divisional opponents. I'm very unhappy that in the third year of the program that the team seems to be making no headway. The offense is in their third year together with a major upgrade at left tackle, a superior offensive line, two outstanding running backs, a very good tight end and a very good receiver. Not too many teams could match the overall talent on the offensive side and yet between what I perceive as bad playcalling/scheming and mediocre quarterback play, this offense is not improving at all. If anything it has regressed. Defensively the Bills are heavily invested both in free agency and in the drafts of the last 3 years. The defense in a word, sucks. I'll be attending tomorrow's game in Candlestick and the game in Phoenix next week but I am not optimistic. I hope that I'm wrong about Gailey. I hope I'm wrong about Wanny. I hope that I've been overreacting to the extreme suckitude that the Bills have shown so far. I continue to hope. But I'm not confident about this team's direction and this is all happening on a backdrop of Mr. Wilson's last days and an expiring stadium lease. It seems like the perfect storm for something bad to happen. And I'm an optimistic person.
  4. Hey Gang. Because I bought so many tickets and the Bills have sucked, I have a few extra tickets available… for a very deeply discounted rate for any Bills fans who promise to "fly the colors" in the stadium. PM me if anyone is interested. Also, we will be tailgating Mark Vader's/Pinto Kenny's tailgate along with Calbear's group and Jamie Nails' group. Here's the info (a cut and paste from Mark Vader's post upthread): As of right now the "Kenny tailgate" will be held along the fence area in Lot H. Kenny and I will be arriving early to the stadium. I have had conflicting reports as to what time the parking lot opens, some say it is as early as 8:00, and some say as early as 9:00. We plan on entering the lot at Gate 2. For those who wish to join us please send me a PM here and let me know how many people you have coming with you. Please bring your own food and drink with you so that we can have a grand tailgate together. Here is a link to the Candlestick Park website which has the map of the parking lot: http://www.49ers.com...directions.html Remember, Gate 2 Lot H.
  5. The lie (deleting the photo of the milk bones box) just compounds the issue. He'd have been better off being upfront and honest in some way. No one really cared whether Clinton smoked pot or not… it was the silly "I didn't inhale" which cost him public opinion.
  6. Another enjoyable read. The author succeeds pretty nicely. As for the Bills LBs, it's too bad the Bills picked a linebacker 68th overall (Sheppard) to use as a 2-down linebacker. His game seemed to be improving on a weekly basis so it was disappointing to see him rarely used against the Cheatriots*** especially since he has shown good promise as a blitzer. The other under-utilized LB, Moats, has shown an ability to rush the quarterback so it was also a disappointment that he wasn't given an opportunity to contribute last Sunday. It looks like both players will be given a chance to play this week and hopefully they make a big positive difference. In fact they'll have to as I'm thinking Barnett, Scott, and Wilson will still be psychologically and physically traumatized from last week's beat down.
  7. I suspected that maybe some of Wilson's troubles are due to the Seahawks offensive strategists… an oversimplified offense possibly due to caution with a rookie quarterback… and maybe there's some truth to that. From Warren Moon on Russell Wilson (Moon is a mentor for Wilson so he's clearly in the QBs corner, FWIW): "He feels that he can do more and handle more than they're giving him. You've got to remember -- Pete's a defensive coach, and he preaches, 'Turnovers, and take care of the football.' He tells his quarterback constantly, 'Don't turn the ball over.' And you become ... frigid about throwing the football, because you're so worried about turning the ball over. Matt Hasselbeck complained about it when he was here, and Tarvaris Jackson was told that constantly last year. He played like a robot, and Russell is starting to do that. They've got to relax on that stuff." http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdown-corner/warren-moon-mentorship-helps-russell-wilson-move-past-043101337--nfl.html

  9. You mean TJax wasn't at the team facilities getting caught up on the playbook? How can they pay these guys so much money if they're not dedicated to their professions? /sarcasm off
  10. Some guys can learn from their mistakes. Some can't. Some guys have the ability to be head coaches in the NFL. Some don't. And btw, Belichick had the Cleveland team improving for his first 4 years in Cleveland… which is no small feat considering that the Browns (along with the Lions) have been even worse franchises than the Bills. In his 5th year they regressed but many people say that this had much to do with distractions caused by the knowledge that the team was leaving at season's end. Regardless, I don't think Nolan to Belichick is a good comparison.
  11. I mentioned earlier in the week that the one major advantage that Wanny would have being on the field is seeing the mood and spirit of his players after every possession. If he'd not been so out of touch, maybe he would have seen that the floodgates were opening as the dispiritedness increased. Then again, even if he'd been on the field to see the spirit slowly being sapped out of his players, who's to say he would have recognized it? On another point, I see a lot of talk about motivational speeches, "getting in a players face," etc. etc. etc. The most motivating thing in sports and life is when one knows that their supervisors are super competent and putting them in a position to succeed. The most demoralizing thing is when one has no faith in their supervisors. It's like in a prize fight and the bigger fighter is pounding on the smaller fighter and the smaller guy's cornerman is yelling "don't let him hit you!" "Fight harder… don't give up!!!" Thanks for nothing, Wanny. Thanks for letting your guys get physically demolished and then not sticking up for them either during the beatdown, or afterwards.
  12. Apparently Wanny is looking to place the blame elsewhere instead of conceding that which was obvious to most of us: He chose to implement a small lineup to counter the Cheatriots*** jumbo 2-tight end lineup. You know why there were so many missed/broken tackles? What happens when a safety is supposed to meet a much larger pulling tight end in the hole? You get one guess. Wanny had the chance to show a bit of fallibility and accountability… which might have had a positive effect on his players. He chose not to take that opportunity. He basically blamed the players.
  13. Hmmm… the thread title is "Has Chan lost this team?" However the poll question reads "Has Chan losing control of this team?" Seems to me that "lost" and "losing" are not quite the same thing. IMO he hasn't lost the team but he very well could be losing it. Just my thoughts.
  14. Does this mean we can't crucify Chris Brown for being ambiguous, thus letting our imaginations run wild? p.s.-- Thanks JW
  15. Perhaps they should have signed him to head the Alumni Association instead of the practice squad.
  16. I was here for the entire Mike Nolan era in San Francisco. He is absolutely the wrong man for the job and I'd be surprised if he ever got another head coaching job in the NFL. The guy epitomizes (like Chan, like Wade, like Norv Turner and a bunch of other guys) the Peter Principle. In other words, he's eminently qualified to be a coordinator but an abject failure as a head coach. He's incapable of making that next step. His record here was horrible (18-37, .327) in spite of having some good players, his handling of the players was abysmal, his press conferences were a disaster (think non-stop babbling idiot) and he failed in every way a head coach can fail.
  17. Funniest line around here in at least a week. Well done. Well presumably they had a lot to do with the Bills offering contracts to Mario Williams, Robert Meachem, and Mark Anderson. This all makes sense except that it might actually be possible for us to hit rock bottom and start calling for Thigpen.
  18. That's nothing. Washington threw a silver dollar across the Potomac. We'd be better off with Steve Van Buren. Then we could finally revive the power running game.
  19. Not to be a buzz kill but we expected our D-line to outman both the Jets and the Cheatriots***. Also… Chris Long is an outstanding player and Robert Quinn is a very talented pass rusher that many here wanted us to take 3rd overall 2 years ago. I personally liked Aldon Smith more than Quinn but I was also very high on Quinn. Anyways point is, St. Louis has two excellent pass rushers.
  20. Nothing speaks more directly to your football knowledge than the bolded. And then you start with the name calling… Yep. Maybin is not a good football player. For those advising others to "get over it" and "move on," this is a Buffalo Bills forum. We talk about current, former, and even sometimes future Buffalo Bills. Seeing as Maybin as a recent first round bust and now occupies a roster spot for a hated divisional rival, I don't see the problem in having a discussion about him. The "get over it police" should perhaps focus their attention on the posters still lamenting the trade of Daryl Lamonica.
  21. I wish I was gonna be on a submarine… unfortunately I'll be attending the Bills game. Thanks for your service…
  22. "Strange… he's standing on his own accord but otherwise appears to be totally unresponsive… "
  23. I hate to burst your bubble but if this was the wakeup call, how would we characterize the Jets game? Refuse to get sucked in again? That reminds me of a recurring gag the "Gilligan's Island" script writers used to use. Interesting that the Bills and Jets had a somewhat parallel week. Gailey questioned his team's mental toughness. Ryan said today that there was no way his team quit (despite allegations by the Niners). He said that towards the end of the game that they were just beat up and tired. Perhaps we'll see which method yields better results. Exactly. By going big you have nothing to lose and you theoretically gain the ability to actually stand up to the physical onslaught.
