  1. I really disagree with this opinon (many people hold it so it's not you I'm criticizing). To me, with a guy of Spiller's build at this level of athletes, you quickly run into a law of diminishing returns. I think you run the risk of wearing him down and overburdening him. The idea that more touches doesn't translate into a better play mix. I loved the workload split in this last game against Arizona. Aside from his fumble, I liked that Freddy ran for good hard, honest yards and I think the change of pace between Jackson's and Spiller's styles is an excellent mix.
  2. The best thing about live-game threads (thanks for starting Fergy) is that you get a real feel for posters' football knowledge. You get fresh opinions, unaffected by people having read media stories or other people's opinions. Yeah, Manning's got tons of good football left in him.
  3. Says the guy without an avatar. Beware of avatar critics without avatars… trust me.
  4. I think it's clear that Manning has lost a bit on his fastball but even more so, there are 1-2 throws every game where he seems to lose his grip on the ball and the throw floats on him… and I think that has to do with the nerve damage he suffered. That said, he's still a great QB and that INT was not on him, IMO. Also it would have been a moot point had Decker not tripped on the 45 yard line with no defender within 10 yards of him. And on that pick six, what the hell is wrong with the running back chasing the DB? Why would you slow down on a stop/start move when the guy you're chasing is ahead of you? Epically bad football instincts.
  5. I think that's a bit absurd. I WOULD buy that he's the pass-happy version of the run-happy Schottenheimer. Both Reid and Schotty are very successful coaches but seem to have a trouble taking their teams to the summit.
  6. Thanks UD. My wife works in an office… I'll have her bring home a couple of pencils tomorrow.
  7. This issue isn't terribly important to me but I have a few thoughts on it. 1) If the Bills had a great offense, they probably wouldn't bother running the Wildcat. I can't think of a good offense which uses the Wildcat and the teams that do use it generally have bad offenses. 2) The play Patrick Peterson made on that interception was incredible… maybe only Antonio Cromartie among DBs could have made that play… maybe a young Ed Reed. Donald Jones wasn't even his man and Peterson came off his primary coverage, outraced 3 players to an overthrown ball and still had the athleticism to catch the ball and take it back the other way. Absolutely incredible play. Incidentally, passing on Peterson is a much bigger issue to me than the Wildcat. p.s.- And I'm a big Marcell Dareus supporter and was in favor of drafting him.
  8. Maybe it's just me but this kind of makes you want to pull for the guy… of course the way he conducted himself as a Bill always had me in his corner anyways.
  9. One of the interesting things I read on this board recently was something to the effect "the transitive property (e.g. - whenever A > B and B > C, then also A > C) doesn't seem to apply to sports." I can't remember who posted it but kudos to that person.
  10. I've always felt the rah-rah and inspirational stuff is less important in pro sports and should be left to those who can actually pull it off (thus my opinion on the comments about Wanny coming down from the booth and motivating). I agree with mrags in that Gailey is really out of character IMO when he tries being inspirational. Can you imagine Bill Belichick, Wade Phillips or Tom Landry trying to be rah rah? A head coach should just be himself. Don't be someone you're not. If I was Chan I'd just be straightforward, factual, and encouraging. Remind the guys that they're 3-3 and that it's a step in the right direction but we want to be a winning team so anything less than a winning record isn't good enough. Remind the guys that the playoffs is the goal. Tell them they just beat a really good football team in their own backyard and that they have a lot to be proud of. Remind them of the 24 hour rule… feel good for 24 hours and then get back to the hard work of being a professional. Tell them you're proud of how they pulled together during the extended road trip. If you're gonna speak, speak as yourself and from the heart… don't try morphing into Knute Rockne… especially if you can't pull it off. As for Choice, I couldn't make out his whole spiel but it sounded more or less like something like that is supposed to sound. I guess it's ritualized behavior so someone's gotta do it but like I said, unless you're really gifted in that area better to not try to phony your way through it. JMO.
  11. I'd still like to see a big bruising, ice-the-game kind of back. BTW, I got a close up of Cory McIntyre yesterday… that dude is BIG!!!
  12. Oops!!! I was looking for the Kamar Aiken thread… wrong door I guess.
  13. My ignore list is now up to 15… the vast majority of them have not stood the test of time. Do these names ring a bell?: Billistic, Gareson, MacAddict104, mpl6876, paintmyhouse, GeorgeEdwardsTeeth, TheKidd Just another troll to throw on the pile. Glad about Merriman… I'm a sucker for happy endings so hopefully something good comes of this.
  14. Gotcha. "Fresh insight" = Stale Criticism Thank you very little.
  15. Unbelievably great time. I had the great pleasure of meeting Pinto Kenny and Mrs. Pinto Kenny (and also doing a bowling ball shot) as well as hanging out with the much-revered Jamie Nails (the smaller, white version). Sadly I missed my connection with NewEra but had an awesome time meeting Brian Coger who planned much of the weekend's festivities and many other Bills fans. There was an estimated 5000+ Bills fans at U of Phx Stadium… about one out of every 13 attendees! Great time, great win, and thanks to the Arizona Bills Backers and Bills Mafia for a great, great time.
  16. I don't know Astro… I'm not sure you give our O-line enough credit. That Arizona front 7 is pretty good and we ran the ball pretty well with almost no threat of a passing game.
  17. IMO Pears is an average starting right tackle. He plays with good aggression and effort. There are gonna be times when he looks terrible in pass pro (like the play where Cordy Glenn was injured because Pears couldn't handle his assignment). I totally agree that Hairston is the right tackle of the future and only Glenn's injury has kept him from biting into Pears' reps at right tackle. Yep, Bill's pre-beer snafu is certainly a teachable moment.
  18. Eh… how many really good white running backs are there anyways?
  19. If he's so smart, how come he misquoted the master? What he was supposed to say was "It's hard to win in the NFL." (Jauron 3:16)
  20. The fine-ness of the cheerleaders is the first tiebreaker, I believe.
