  1. To which I say "be careful what you wish for." IMO, this team in the long run, needs both players to win. Amen. I agree with most of your post but not the bolded. At least I haven't noticed that Freddy needs more carries to get up to speed. In fact I think in today's NFL, there are fewer and fewer backs who "get stronger as the game wears on" and who "need more carries to be effective." I think that with the speed and violence of today's NFL that those are old paradigms. I believe that a fresher, more well-rested back is more effective in today's game where there are many more situational substitutions and fresher players on both sides of the ball.
  2. The majority of NFL games are decided by a touchdown or less. Thus the majority of games come down to one play. Typically in an NFL game, there are 6-7 plays which are pivotal to the outcome whether it be a dropped interception, a bad officiating call, or what have you. I agree that coaching did not decide this particular game. In fairness, Chandler was thrown to in the end zone before the final interception. I agree with most of your posts but I disagree with this. Freddy IMO is the ultimate team player and there's been zero evidence of tension or division amongst the team when asked about the time share. I agree that Spiller needs to get the ball 2-3 times more each game at Freddy's expense. They need to tweak the touches a bit if you ask me. Spiller has 87 carries and 28 receptions for 115 touches in 9 games, an average of 12.78 touches per game. Freddy has 75 carries and 26 receptions for 101 touches in 7 games, an average of 14.43 touches per game. A good start would be to give CJ 15-17 touches and Freddy 10-12 touches. Yes. Whether you want to describe it as "the law of diminishing returns" or a "regression to the mean," typically the more a running back carries, the fewer yards per carry he gets. The amazing thing about OJ's 1973 season was that he averaged 6 yards per carry over 332 carries. The sample size is too small to make any valid conclusions about who is better in ball protection. You'd be better off looking at their career numbers. Agreed. Spiller has already injured his shoulder this year. I think a lot of the people who want to see Spiller dominate the ball don't consider a lot of the downside. So freaking true. It's amazing to me that people denigrate Fred Jackson. Great player, great person. Loves being a Buffalo Bill. But apparently you can't prop up one of our players without tearing down another.
  3. I thought I'd reached an age/maturity/perspective where I was beyond throwing temper tantrums over officiating calls. But I admit I was livid while watching Bill Leavy and company hand the Cheatriots*** (who were substantial home favorites) 3 first and goals at the one yard line. Two of those passes were uncatchable balls and should have been called as 5-yard illegal contact penalties. But now I AM starting to whine. So I guess I've gotten it off my chest.
  4. I understand that McGee and Thigpen became pretty good buddies during their time in KC.
  5. What's the over/under on how many more games Maybin plays in his NFL "career?"
  6. BTW, is there a difference between discussing the topic and whining about it? I haven't yet seen anyone say it's the reason we lost.
  7. Or an alternative view, if some incompetent wants to throw money at you, take what life sends you. After all, how many incompetent coaches do the "honorable thing" and return the money?
  8. Wow. When I read the post title I thought it said that Thursday's game would dictate the rest of our lives. Glad I re-read it. Are there any other shots you wanna call as long as you're making some bold predictions?
  9. For purposes of this discussion, I'm gonna have to ask you to express your views in complex quadratic equations or at least in a first degree polynomial format. I will say though that pre-2010 drafts are pretty irrelevant to the discussion excepting the fact that Chixley inherited Poz and failed to retain him.
  10. Intelligent football discussion? Alright, here's my take on Fitz: (4) (5)
  11. I find the timing of this David Lee criticism ironic. Fitz has probably thrown the ball better in the last two weeks than he has all season. I was thinking the opposite of you guys: that the months of trying to re-learn muscle memory was finally starting to pay off. Chad Pennington had a very good career for a guy with very little talent and zero arm strength. Drew Brees is Chad Pennington with a decent arm. Pennington was a finalist for NFL MVP one year and was twice Comeback Player of the Year. His career passer rating is above 90. Jay Fiedler was an undrafted QB who spent 12 years in the NFL, had more TDs than INTs, and led his team to 3 10+ win seasons in 4 years as a starter. As for Romo, Troy Aikman recently said that Romo "is a better quarterback than I was." Former Pro Bowl Giants wideout Amani Toomer recently said that Romo was "the best quarterback in the NFC East." I'm not gonna debate the issue but I will say that I think Romo gets a bit of a bad rap. He's certainly surrounded by a bunch of guys who underachieve in big moments. And I know a few Cowboys fans who don't think Romo is the problem.
  12. I wasn't calling you Shirley, I was merely insinuating it!
  13. This is confusing. Can we just call him Nevin? I'm guessing that identifying the MLB is one of the first and most basic reads on every play. This play that you describe was possibly the only play in which the referees gave the Bills a break. It looked like Scott was holding a bit on the play and I thought I saw an official reach for his flag but not throw it.
  14. Yeah really shocking. Apparently she's not much better class than Tonya Harding because Jerramy Stevens is one of the all-time biggest POS in NFL history. http://www.latimes.com/sports/football/nfl/la-sp-jerramy-stevens-hope-solo-20121113,0,5603916.story http://seattletimes.com/html/localnews/2004147460_rbstevens270.html
  15. Is this what Darlene looks like? http://brianholmes.files.wordpress.com/2007/09/precog-agatha.jpg
  16. To me he's like a mini-McNair. Pretty strong guy. Strong arm.
  17. Personally I think the difficulty of changing schemes is overrated around here (I seldom disagree with Cappy). Numerous teams have turned the defense around in one season. BTW, I haven't read too much around here since Sunday's loss but did anyone notice how different the Bills defense looked from the first Cheatriots*** game to this one? On virtually every play, one of our DEs was standing up. On numerous plays the defensive front shifted just before the snap. We stunted and blitzed a lot more. We used quite a bit of the creep technique in our front 7. However like the last game, we stuck with our nickel/dime and Sheppard and Bradham saw very few snaps. Like the first game it was Barnett and Scott at linebacker most of the time. And yet we only gave up 4 yards per rush this time compared to over 6 yards in the first game. Wanny finally did some scheming.
