  1. I've been to two Raiders-Bills games in Oakland and two Niners-Bills games at Candlestick. I would say that the Bills crowds are easily the worst.
  2. You're wrong there (bolded). There were a lot of people who were saying that Glenn did not have the feet/footwork to play left tackle. I believe that Mayock was one of them. Also, if the consensus was that he could play left tackle, what would make such a prospect slide so far in the draft? Glenn had ZERO character issues and holds the record for most starts by a Georgia Bulldog football player. Many people had questions about his ability to play left tackle. Some here had no questions about it at all.
  3. While I agree that "the state" has gone too far into governing parent-child interaction, I want to also point out that I personally know several adult family members who were raised with zero corporal punishment and are and have been exemplary human beings their whole lives. As such I don't believe that spanking or the inability to spank a child has much to do with how that child grows up.
  4. Cheap free agent veteran? Cedric Benson signed for one year and $825,000 which is the veteran minimum for a guy with his experience. Ask an NFL GM whether they would rather pay a guy like Benson the minimum or a guy like Michael Turner $5 million. When Benson became a free agent I thought it was a great opportunity for the Bills to add something that they lacked. A low draft pick? How about Georgia Tech back (how ironic?). The Steelers of course got Jerome Bettis clone Jonathan Dwyer in the 6th round of the 2010 draft. Dwyer is an excellent violent power back. The reason the Bills don't have a guy like this is because they weren't looking for one, IMO. That type of player is not a part of Gailey's offensive universe.
  5. Thank you for knowing the difference between "dominate" and "dominant." I agree with your post but want to point out that while taking CJ out in the redzone is stupid, is not the only reason the Bills had difficulty scoring. As you know, the compressed field and having 22 guys running around in a much smaller area is one of the reasons that redzone scoring is such a special challenge for all teams. But yes. I remember two plays last season where the mere presence of Spiller drew coverage towards him and opened up space for TD receptions.
  6. Yes they are so why would we move the stadium farther from Canada? That was the point.
  7. This is a discussion. You complaining about people complaining is a bit silly. This discussion does come up a lot but in the wake of the first night game of the season and a person falling down drunk and drowning in Smokes Creek after being denied entry into the game warrants this discussion.
  8. It is but I'd rather have a guy who also has an actual strength or core competency than someone who is well-rounded in a mediocre way. There are teams in the NFL who have a arsenal of backs. I'm underwhelmed by our #3 running back and reject the notion that a #3 back is automatically a mediocrity.
  9. I watched the game last night but haven't reviewed it yet to see who did what. I don't remember Glenn looking bad last night so I'll disagree with you for now. I will note that Wake was lined up across from Hairston the majority of the snaps. The Bills also had our running backs cutting Wake numerous plays where he was left uncovered by Hairston.
  10. Then find someone. But it doesn't have to be a high draft pick or an expensive free agent. That's the point.
  11. This is what the occasional padded practice and points of emphasis are for. These situations only come up a few times in a game but the ability to convert these situations at a high percentage is a huge advantage for a team. The team needs to work more on their short game and less on their tee shots.
  12. I agree and disagree. I don't think the Bills have to invest a high price to find a short-yardage specialist but I agree they need to find one or take someone on the roster and develop him into that role. Besides the inability to stretch the field vertically (which might involve a different QB and receiver), this offenses biggest weakness is the inability to pound the ball. With their current personnel, this should not be a weakness.
  13. There are a few teams in this league who effectively change the identity of their offenses with their personnel groupings. The Bills have the personnel to be a good short yardage team but my theory is that it's something that is not a point of emphasis with Gailey. Without knowing the truth, I believe that Gailey allocates more practice time to, for instance the Wildcat, than he does short yardage situations. With our O-line talent, CMac and Lee Smith this team should be good at converting short-yardage situations. To me the team's lack of success in this area is on Gailey.
  14. To the esteemed poster above, I disagree about Choice. IMO, everything about the guy is mediocre. He's a jack of all trades and proficient at none. He's not quick, not fast, not a good runner or receiver or blocker, doesn't have power and does not have one redeemable skill. Or as we used to say about some players, "he's small but he's slow."
  15. In fairness, Talleywacker has a chance to be much better than Moore. In fairness, Talleywacker's resume probably didn't warrant him being taken at #8. Like Sanchez, Clocker, Gabbert, Ponder, etc Talleywacker was probably overdrafted. Such is the market for quarterbacks these days.
  16. Not to hijack but, uh, Canadian customers? Gordio, you're way too forgiving. I'm still pissed just reading about the incident. And while I always tried to have a good time when I was "that age," it was NEVER at the expense of others. The other very alarming thing is this: who raises kids like that?
  17. At this point in their careers, Glenn is so much bigger and stronger than Martin so his ability to anchor is much better. If Martin fills out a bit he'll be fine I think. Glenn is a good illustration of the special skills needed to be a good tackle in today's NFL. Although these speed rushers aren't that huge, once they get your feet moving, they will counter and drive you right into the quarterback. Unless you have the mass to anchor and the wingspan to steer them, it's hard to be successful.
  18. HAHAHAHAHHAHHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously though, the people dismissing Moore because of the flatness of his early career curve are oversimplifying things a bit. While those players ARE the exceptions, there's still plenty of players who took the long route to success. You'd think that with Bills such as Fred Jackson that those lessons would be remembered. The Bills were tormented last night by Cameron Wake, a guy who was undrafted and went to Canada before becoming an NFL star. C'mon people. Don't be so dismissive/dogmatic. Look at Moore's actual play. What do your EYES tell you?
  19. Glenn had his roughest outing of the season last Sunday against the Cheatriots*** allowing a few pressures and a QB hit before going into lockdown mode in the second half. He's had surprisingly few rookie moments this year and looks to have all the ingredients to become an outstanding LT for a long time. Jonathan Martin who the Bills passed up is starting for Miami at right tackle, ironic because in the OT draft debate, Martin was considered a left tackle and some critics had Glenn as nothing more than a right tackle or a guard. Riley Reiff who many here wanted the Bills to draft, many in the first round, was taken 23rd overall by Detroit and despite the Lions having an average offensive line/tackle situation, is not yet a starter. Reiff's getting lots of playing time as a blocking tight end and has played 53 snaps in the last two weeks so he is contributing. There were many people here who thought of Reiff as the second coming of Bryan Bulaga and so far those people look right.
  20. Yeah ironically Merriman was brought here as a pass rusher and at 265 pounds he's not exactly a behemoth. And yet he is very stout in the run game. And I agree that he brings a good energy to the defense.
  21. I like what I see. He has that prototypical long athletic pass rush build and it seems like he's getting better every week. Also he plays with good pad level and body lean which minimizes the disadvantages of being a longer athlete.
  22. Tannehill is pretty physically gifted. With good coaching and support he should have a bright future. The only question with him is if he has the head to be an NFL QB.
