  1. I thought he was a great player in 2010. Since then he's had the bone spurs but no other injuries I remember. At 29 years old he's not terribly old for a DT. I'd prefer to build around him. It looks like with Kyle, Dareus, and Carrington that the Bills should have a nice DT rotation.
  2. But the "stale and old complaint" wouldn't have anything to do with him coaching there for 9 years? You have to be sarcastic, right?
  3. On the other hand, in some circles it's the only language that's understood.
  4. So his poor performance isn't possibly the result of an injury he's been playing with all season long? His bone spurs last year got him placed on injured reserve in November and required surgery and six months of rehab. It severely affected him. I think it's really likely that Kyle tried playing through it this season and that it affected his play. There's no other reason that a guy who's been such an excellent player has had such a bad second half of the season. And yes. The stiff arm play was impossible to miss.
  5. Yes. Reich was an offensive assistant and QB coach in Indy with Manning for 3 years. Reich for OC would be an outside the box hire. He's never done it before but is arguably qualified to make the next step. It might be an underwhelming hire but we are in zero position to evaluate how good a coach he is. In fact people inside the NFL would have a hard time evaluating him. Dirk Koetter did little in Jacksonville to distinguish himself as an OC and now based on one good season as Atlanta's OC, he's put himself in the conversation for head coaching jobs.
  6. If the Bills move quickly enough on a head coaching hire, the new guy could offer jobs to the assistants without hanging them in limbo. Many could be inclined to accept an offer because they wouldn't have to move their families to a new city. There's no perfect way of dealing with assistants when the head guy is fired but all things considered, releasing them from their contracts is the lesser of evils.
  7. Like I said earlier/elsewhere, I'd be in favor of hiring Lovie contingent on who he can install as his offensive coordinator. I'd personally love if he came here and brought Norv Turner as his OC.
  8. Yeah I think Dalton had a higher floor and Kaep a higher ceiling. Unless Dalton shows more improvement, I'm anticipating that the second-guessing will grow although of course Bengals fans are thrilled to be going to the playoffs for the second year in a row. I'm sure there's very little second guessing going on right now.
  9. I wonder if Andy and his girlfriend are having a big fight right around now.
  10. I'm sitting here for hours now trying not to have fun with the topic title.
  11. From the photo it looks like with a few tweeks, the Bills could pass him off as Andy Reid. I sure hope Brandon hasn't had this same thought.
  12. I agree that the reason the Seahawks are where they are is because of Russell Wilson. But he's more of a final piece than a starting point. The Seahawks have been a very solid team with good defense and running game for 3 years in a row. They made the playoffs in Pete Carroll's first year. Russell Wilson put them over the top as a final step, not a beginning step. He's the piece de resistance, the final piece in the puzzle. As for wisdom, believing there is more than one way to do things is a wiser belief than believing that there's only one way to do things. At least in my opinion.
  13. Maybe your post would be more clear if you stated in what capacity you envisioned Reich? QB coach? OC? Head Coach?????
  14. I was anti-Shanahan (and anti-Holmgren) for the same reason: As they gained prominence and stature in their former jobs, they took over personnel decisions and did a very poor job in that capacity. As others have pointed out, Shanny has a diamond at quarterback again so it's a bit hard to separate the success between Shanny and RG3. Also, while Shanny is actually higher up in the Redskins organization, they did bring in an actual General Manager with a good track record in Bruce Allen. So some of my criticism of Shanny in Denver is mitigated by the hiring of a real General Manager in DC. edit: I was also anti-Cowher and anti-Gruden for the simple reason that I don't believe you give a head coach who has never had it, full authority over all aspects of the football operations. With only a few exceptions, I don't believe that model works.
  15. As I raised a few weeks ago, I wonder if people in Cinci are wondering aloud why the Bengals drafted Dalton instead of Kaepernick. As their careers advance, this sort of talk if it doesn't exist now, certainly could arise.
  16. Not according to some posters here who are close to the Bills organization. The word, FWIW, is that the Bills coveted Keuchly.
  17. I will say that just because no one's ever done it before doesn't mean that it can't be done. That reasoning is fallacious (although I'm not sure what fallacy it is). And certainly Chip Kelly has sterling credentials otherwise. I'm just skeptical because of what I stated earlier.
  18. Under Gailey for the first time in team history, the team had 2 S&C coaches.
  19. Care to clarify your incoherent post where you didn't differentiate your comment from mine? If properly posting on a website is beyond your capabilities, maybe you should just lurk and try to learn from the big boys.
  20. I actually had a conversation with Bruce DeHaven about this years ago. In short, the assistant coaches know that in the vast majority of cases, that they will not be brought back by the new head coach. In the meantime (in your scenario) they're hanging in limbo. Thus they can't start looking for new work (because they're under contract to the team) and can miss out on the hiring cycle. As a result some of these coaches won't be able to find new jobs while they're hanging in limbo. This practice of retaining coaches under contract (it does happen) is generally deeply resented by assistant coaches and is considered to be a bad practice by NFL teams as far as making a statement about how they treat employees.
  21. I like Jay Gruden because of his credentials and pedigree but I've not been impressed with Dalton or the Bengals offense. Could you imagine how much better the Bills offense would be with the simple addition of AJ Green? Then imagine Dalton without AJ Green. Lovie underachieved in Chicago? One could easily make the argument that he overachieved. As for Nolan, a call for what? Defensive Coordinator?
  22. Here's another pick. He did have the one on one but he threw late and short. Bad ball placement and probably a poor decision.
