  1. Again I have a hangup with any guy who hasn't coached in the NFL. I'm not aware of a single successful NFL head coach who had previously never coached in the NFL. Not saying it can't be done but I'm skeptical.
  2. So what instrument did you play? http://www.urbandict...e.php?term=mofo I was also thinking that this might reduce Littman's sphere of influence. Hey it's the New Year. Let's move forward.
  3. Their DEs have been Julius Peppers, Israel Idonije, Corey Wooton and Shea McClellin. The first three area all tall, rangy guys all 6'6" and 6'7" and all between 270 and 290. McClellin is kind of a Kelsay sized player. The Bears have been very different from the Freeney/Mathis model that Indy used to use. The tackles are Melton and Paea who are both Kyle Williams type players.
  4. Well I could be wrong but IMO Smith is a guy who has gotten the most out of his players. There are complaints I've heard that he's a "player's coach" but you have to distinguish between "player's coaches" whose players play hard for them and those whose players don't play hard for them. I've rarely seen a bad effort from Smith's Bears. It looks to me like he holds his players accountable. As far as showing fire, I think that's overrated. As I recently mentioned elsewhere Rod Marinelli, Les Steckel, and Frank Gansz were all fiery coaches who couldn't win football games. I think Smith has been an excellent coach and that the Bills would be lucky to get him. JMO. Peyton Manning vs Rex Grossman. You're not bolstering your credibility here. The very fact that the Bears made the Super Bowl is a testament to excellent coaching.
  5. Well would you agree that it's hard to beat a more talented team with better quarterbacking? If Brett Favre was on the Bears and Rex Grossman on the Packers, who do you think would be winning those games? Have you read through this thread and all the Jerry Angelo stuff?
  6. As for your "not exactly Coach of the Year" comment, Lovie Smith did win that honor when he led the 2005 Bears to an 11-5 record with a rookie 4th round quarterback named Kyle Orton. The following year he coached the Bears to the Super Bowl with Rex Grossman as the starting QB.
  7. One talented but flakey and inconsistent QB, a talented but temperamental wide receiver, a talented but injury-prone running back, one of the league's worst offensive lines, three great but fading defensive stars (all who battled injuries), and a great return man who had the worst season of his career and is contemplating retirement. Just because you recognize a few big names doesn't make the Bears a talented team. And the very fact of you comparing Lovie Smith with Dick Jauron brings into question your NFL knowledge. Seriously.
  8. Boyd was impressive. That LSU defense is ridiculously talented and physical. Granted they lost Barkevious late in the game but they spent much of the contest beating the crap out of Clemson's less physical squad. In spite of the beating, Boyd was courageous and heroic and got the job done, with the help of that immensely talented receiver (#6). Boyd has a great arm and is a great athlete. With some seasoning he could be something.
  9. Good post. One historical note: The Dallas Cowboys drafted Steve Walsh in the first round of the 1989 Supplemental after drafting Troy Aikman in the 1989 regular Draft. I think the importance of QB has increased immensely over the last decade or so. So I think the likelihood of spending high draft picks on a QB in consecutive years is more likely than it's ever been. As always it's a case by case thing but Jacksonville for instance is a team I could see drafting a quarterback in the first round in spite of the presence of Blaine Gabbert, Chad Henne, and possibly Tim Tebow. That was my intent, LOL.
  10. LOL. I always wanted to have some land to work so I do envy you there. That's why I drive a 2003 that's paid off. No car payments hopefully equals land. If I can be disciplined. Hopefully in the next year or two I'll have a nice spread to call my own. Happy New Year Farmer!
  11. It was kind of funny when it happened: When the Bills hired Nix, there was fairly widespread criticism that they didn't even consider hiring Whaley for the GM job. Then Nix hired Whaley as his assistant.
  12. Oh good. I thought I missed a public statement by Nix today. So as far as we know he hasn't met with the media yet.
  13. Two that immediately come to mind are Marv Levy and Bud Grant. Coincidentally both took their teams to 4 Super Bowls. You know the rest. I'm not concerned about Trestman's CFL experience as much as I wonder if he'd be able to assemble a good NFL staff.
  14. I know. I was just playing. Shoulda used an emoticon. Kevin, I was just kidding. I thought it would be funny to criticize your post about living in the 90's by citing the 90's.
  15. Looks like he has all the tools. If he has the head, the sky's the limit.
  16. Could be the start of a Lovie courtship. Sorry. That's the best I could come up with.
  17. He could play Santa Claus at the Bills next Holiday Party.
  18. They never would have made it to 4 straight Super Bowls with an attitude like that.
