  1. End? They haven't even hired a head coach yet. This has been said a lot. Too much actually. The new coach will likely have a lot of input as to which QB the Bills will take. He will then be entrusted to develop this quarterback. The head coaching hire will have a huge bearing on who the Bills new QB is and how he performs. Whisenhunt has to be held somewhat culpable for the selection and performance of Kolb. So does fired Cards GM Rod Graves. One thing that hasn't been spoken about a lot is how much input the Bills solicited from their coaching staff on player decisions. Did Gailey not care and totally entrust Nix? Did he have a lot of input? Will the new coach have more or less input than Gailey did?
  2. An outclassed Northern Illinois squad, wasn't it?
  3. We could be talking Auburn, NY or Auburn Alabama. Just saying.
  4. And they got good play out of a 4th round rookie QB. A lot of things went wrong at the end for Reid but QB play was hardly the issue. He's one of the very top QB gurus in the NFL.
  5. True. It doesn't necessarily mean anything. Someone came up with Jimmy Johnson as a guy who had never coached in the NFL before becoming an NFL head coach. It worked alright for him.
  6. Norv's brother Ron was one of Lovie's OCs in Chicago. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ron_Turner_(American_football) Strangely, this fact is mentioned in Norv's wiki entry but not Ron's. Actually it is in both of their entries.
  7. That gives new meaning to the expression "he exploded into the ball carrier."
  8. Technically Brandon said that he didn't have dinner with Gruden. I'm sure they didn't meet face to face but that doesn't mean that there wasn't a phone conversation.
  9. According to the debate rules we have here at TSW, you now have 200 words to rebut your opponent's response.
  10. Catavalos seems to prefer the technique of his DBs not looking back for the ball which usually results in completed passes or defensive pass interference penalties.
  11. Tomlin was 2 years older than Shanny Jr. He also had 3 more years of coaching experience. And he didn't have a famous daddy to coattail. He had to actually grow his career through merit-based promotions.
  12. Sabres? I think it has to do with the new "Analytics Department."
  13. Wow!!! You guys are rough! I listened to the interview and when he said "hopefully… we'll see what happens" it jumped out at me too. The wording is awkward to say the least. My other observation is that it sounded like Whaley was not very comfortable during the interview and wanted to get out of it ASAP. Those things said, I don't think there's much consequence to his stumbling comment either way. But regardless, take it easy on the new guy!
  14. Wow. You guys are really not understanding. Peterson and Kelly have never coached in the NFL, not even as assistants. If you're telling me that 66% of the head coaches currently in the NFL playoffs never coached in the NFL as assistants, you're completely missing the point. I'd bet every one of the head coaches in this year's playoffs were previously NFL assistants.
  15. Dropped the ball when compared to the Sabres? Isn't hockey played with pucks?
  16. "I thought I made it clear that when I cup my hand like this that you hand me my travel mug… the one with the prune juice in it."
  17. No doubt! And the boys from last year's class, Steph Gilmore and Melvin Ingram look like great pros too. I think the stress of the season wore on him a bit. His ass looks kinda fat. As Zac pointed out upthread, he just signed a very long term, lucrative extension and he's talked openly about staying on The Farm until his kids graduate from there. He won't be in the mix for a few years anyways.
  18. As I've already pointed out numerous times, Harbaugh had a 14 year playing career in the NFL and was an NFL assistant for assistant for 2 years and a college assistant for 14 years. Chip Kelly didn't play college football and has zero coaching experience in the NFL.
  19. Hey D. I totally agree that there is a GM succession plan that the team is not publicly acknowledging. They will not publicly emasculate Nix (which is good for the image of the organization to prospective hires). As Ramius and Kelly already set you straight on this I'll add that they got rid of Guy and Modrak and hired Gibbons and Cook, guys with solid credentials. They also re-assigned or replaced the majority of the regional scouts. I believe that Whaley has gained power and that Nix has lost power. In the last two years there has been significant tangible change in the football department. A perfect characterization. Undoubtedly.
