  1. I like Horton a lot. While there have been rumors as to who Lovie Smith will hire as his OC, there has been no speculation that I've seen as to who Horton might hire. Horton did say yesterday that he has his staff assembled in his mind.
  2. You can't have a sensible conversation on this subject when people can't distinguish between reporters vs columnists, "the press" vs a media outlet, a story vs a tweet, and a dozen or so other important distinctions.
  3. Thanks for finally bringing up Shurmur who was also mentioned in the piece which mentioned Hue Jackson. Either guy would be a good OC hire. Shurmur did an excellent job with Sam Bradford when Bradford was a rookie. Shurmur also did a respectable job with Brandon Weeden this year. The Bills are most likely going to develop a rookie quarterback this year. Shurmur would be an excellent choice for OC. So would Hue Jackson. I think you're making sweeping stereotypes. The Tampa 2 that Tampa Bay played, Jauron played, Indy played, and Chicago played all have differences. Enough not to paint them all with one brush. So what do you think about the rumor that he would bring Hue Jackson or Pat Shurmur with him as OC? You'd be wrong. The Bills already interviewed a minority candidate.
  4. Why are you talking about quarterback prospects when we don't even have a head coach? Seriously though, if you read through some of these threads or even just think about it a bit, you can figure out the answer to your question.
  5. So the fact that he missed practices for most of the season, and again had to have the heels cut out of his football shoes is an excuse? I agree. It's a legitimate excuse.
  6. I think one of the people CJ really looks up to is Warrick Dunn. Nuff said.
  7. And you have to have a good assistant coaching staff. I understand your point. And I'm saying that the "QB is everything" argument has reached the point where it's greatly overstated. It's like when it becomes fashionable for a player to be called underrated. Everyone starts saying how underrated he is. That player then becomes overrated. The idea that the "QB is everything" is a very overrated opinion, in my opinion. Kelly was a better QB than all of the QBs he faced in the Super Bowl. The Bills were outcoached in at least 2 of those games and arguably in all 4.
  8. Gailey is not a valued commodity at this point. After things settle down a bit, he might hook on somewhere like Jauron did. But Gailey's stock is at a low right now and he seems older than his biological age. I like Chan the man, but JMO.
  9. I think New England's roster is much more talented than the Chargers' at this point. As for Rivers (or Romo, or Flacco, or Alex Smith or whomever), for most people it's more a question of "at what cost" than it is a yes/no.
  10. Prototypes? They're useful as a starting point. Then you delve deeper and identify those things which make each player unique. California QBs? That's not a prototype. That's a stereotype. Two different things.
  11. One of the things that is happening in football is that more NFL offenses are borrowing from the college game and for many years now, college offenses have aspired towards the complexity of the NFL offenses. While the gap still exists, it's arguably smaller than it has been. I believe that's the biggest reason you're seeing more success from rookie QBs. The NFL game and the college game have recently grown more similar.
  12. Keep Freddy by all means. Also, draft or sign his eventual replacement. This team needs a guy who can pound it and eat the clock. Freddy could be a really great contributor in a reduced role.
  13. Probably his new job will be less demanding in time and energy than his old job. It's probably a win-win for Ray.
  14. A lot of intellect, good points, and words. Wasted on spilt milk.
  15. I didn't realize that. I guess I'll stop posting in that one then.
  16. IMO you're taking this argument way too far. You're virtually saying that it doesn't matter who the head coach is even though I don't think you actually believe that. Of course you need a quarterback. You also need a competent head coach. And if you're gonna argue that head coaches don't make a difference…
  17. Stop being so pedantic. And what are "pur special teams?" Doesn't sound promising.
  18. He played alright, not that great IMO.
  19. Similar criticism of a lot of coaches who have success early in their tenures: they gain more control and then don't put that control to good use. Sacto just offered a similar criticism of Lovie Smith. One of the issues that's not being talked about a lot is what kind of Coach-GM dynamic will exist, ie- how much say will the new HC have in personnel decisions and how much should he have.
  20. With a name like that, it seems like you should be a vodka drinker. So… vampires take steroids? I thought they got their strength from the blood. I wonder if they test for that in Transylvannia. Not to be the spelling police, but that's D bag(g) I'm beginning to see a pattern here. (kids of NFL players, not WNHS kids)
  21. And a follow up question to Timmo's, did he use the silver spoon to ingest the steroids?
