  1. Finally! Football instead of circular football discussion! Offensive holding on Houston went uncalled on that 3rd down. Regardless, punt Houston.
  2. Considering the dozens of posts saying (approximately) "I'd be fine with Lovie Smith contingent on who he brought in as OC" I would say that the answer to your question is NO. People are not overlooking this fact.
  3. Sumlin also cited the NCAA rule limiting coach and player interaction to 20 hours a week. "In the NFL, there's a lot more time," Sumlin said. "You have to use your time wisely … and it's hard to do that with a real thick playbook. "In fact, the Aggies don't even own a playbook. "It's something for someone to pick up and put on the Internet," Sumlin said of why not. Kingsbury added their philosophy also stems from his time under former Texas Tech coach Mike Leach in the Air Raid offense." I wonder how people would feel about this quote if it was attributed to someone else.
  4. Yeah T. There was a brief trip down memory lane a few months back. http://forums.twobillsdrive.com/topic/152906-rip-ernie-warlick-july-21-1932-nov-24-2012/page__hl__%2Bernie+%2Bwarlick I went to East with his daughter. Extended condolences via Facebook. Damn, those football games in the Wojda's backyard were a LONG time ago…
  5. This is hugely important. Unless your roster is already stacked, you don't want to spend high draft picks on situational players unless that player is a very special talent. More to the point, if you're gonna spend a high pick on a linebacker, you want him on the field a high percentage of the time. People on this board were going crazy for Rey Maualuga a few years back ignoring the fact that he was a run down linebacker. Cinci eventually chose him 38th overall. Haven't seen Teo play, don't want to make an unfair comparison. But if he's bad in coverage and he can't rush the passer, there's zero rationale for taking him at #8. Keuchly went high last year because he was an obvious every-down linebacker.
  6. Buffalo #5. Pittsburgh #4. Perhaps if we hired more ex-Steeler staffers.
  7. I think the popular and growing belief that there are no good QBs in this draft is mostly bunk. Yes there is no Luck or RGIII. That said there are some very intriguing guys out there that some astute front office will identify and select and that will become excellent NFL QBs IMO. For every true expert who holds this belief I feel that there are multiples of others who are simply parroting this opinion and others who are simply being defeatist Bills fans.
  8. THIS, is significant. His family still lives in Raleigh full time I believe. Maybe he's finally ready to make his return to the NFL. This would be exciting news for whichever team he lands with. Lovie Smith + Marc Trestman? Ray Horton + Marc Trestman?
  9. There are numerous bloggers on this site. The ones that get traffic actually participate regularly in the discussion here. It would be best for your brother to do so if he wants to drum up business. Also, you might want to provide a "live link."
  10. Also with regard to the popularly-held sentiment around here that we need to stay committed to the 4-3: Numerous teams have recently transitioned from 4-3 to 3-4 in one season. It can be done with the right coach. Mike Nolan, Dom Capers, and Wade Phillips all recently performed this feat successfully IN ONE SEASON. Ray Horton for instance could probably pull it off with a strategic draft choice or two (think Clay Matthews, BJ Raji).
  11. Or in a shot standing next to Vernon Davis with a girl slung over his shoulder. I'm not gonna disagree with you here but I'll add that a lot of these great rush backers have the necessary athleticism to become great coverage linebackers. They rarely do because they are asked to perform their core competency but you see my point. IMO, people make a little bit too much of the argument that a 3-4 OLB is not suited to play OLB in a 4-3. There are some great players who can play well in either scheme. I watched Barkevious Mingo running around out there for LSU and he definitely looks like he could patrol the zones, wreck people coming over the middle, and single up on tight ends.
  12. I just started watching the videos on this year's QBs. As opposed to previous years I'll probably concentrate on this position for obvious reasons. I've watched all the passing plays of Tyler Wilson's week 8 game against Ole Miss and week 12 game against LSU. This kid is extremely talented and very tough. I like him a lot. I'd like to hear more about how many concussions he's had and when they occurred. I like Tyler Wilson very much. Based only on the Clemson-LSU game the other night, I love Tajh Boyd. Let me think about that for a second.
  13. Jerry Angelo? I couldn't say. Some of the Chicago posters here said that Lovie got progressively more power over personnel during his 9 years with the Bears but that might be conjecture. Was there a power struggle? On the other hand, Angelo did hire Lovie so that's an interesting question.
  14. This contradicts some of the other reports from last night and this morning. If true, it's a very significant development.
  15. And AJ Green is a major weapon who would lift any offense. That said, Gruden has a nice pedigree and solid credentials. For all we know, Dalton has ceilinged out and Gruden has done a good job with him.
  16. Cappy gets pretty upset when people misspell his name. He had a rookie quarterback, a rookie running back, and a rookie wide receiver along with a 2nd year wide receiver. Shurmur did nicely with a rookie Sam Bradford in St. Louis.
  17. I think you overstate your point by quite a bit. We're talking about two top 20 teams on National TV. The prestige of conferences and programs. Millions of dollars from bowl committees. Boosters, alumni, administrators in attendance. Families. Friends. That's a lot of pressure on these kids. And that's not even to mention how much their performance as individuals might affect their draft stock for the NFL. Except possibly for a very few regular season games like Alabama-Auburn, Michigan-Ohio State (or in the conferences that have playoffs), these players will not experience playing in games with so much at stake. Yes it's only one game but it's a pressure-packed game and how a quarterback plays in these games could be very revealing as to how they will perform at the next level. As described in the live game thread, it was a heroic and courageous performance. How many big hits did Boyd take? Between one and two dozen for sure. His team simply could not protect him. And yet he never became timid or defeated. That was a great performance and Boyd is a great prospect. He is very similar to what is becoming the modern prototype: a bit shorter but extremely athletic and very strong. He has a thick, powerful build and a very strong arm. Love this kid.
  18. The Bills veil of secrecy is quite impressive. No one is getting much out of them, national or local.
  19. Sumlin is 48 years old. He has a sterling record as an assistant and as a Head Coach in 5 years at 2 different schools, he has a 46-19 record including a 3-1 record in Bowl Games. By conventional parameters, this guy is a rising star. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kevin_Sumlin
