  1. Yeah I hate to have to play Whac-A Mole with the Marrone Marketing Conspiracists but I don't see how hiring (to use the words of the conspiracists) a marginally successful college coach is gonna be a major force in milking more ticket revenue from the Syracuse-Utica-Rome area. Especially when the team recently said that they know that winning is the only way the team will remain viable and the team's reputation will be restored.
  2. Very bizarre. For all the billions of dollars that Carrier has, you'd think they'd install the damn system for free. Or at least supply the equipment for free and have the university pay for the installation.
  3. I would say considering his time in the USFL and his 8 years in the CFL where he won every individual and team accolade one could win, my opinion is that he could have been a long term QB in the NFL. IMO he was never given that chance until the very end of his career.
  4. Yep. And the Ravens are not the most artistic offensive team either. This game is more or less going the way I expected except that I didn't think it would be this close. The really attractive game hands down is the Seahawks-Redskins.
  5. Darin Gantt at PFT is a pretty bad writer. But I liked this line: "OK, emotion is all well and good, but at some point somebody’s going to have to play football."
  6. Just a note, Arians fell ill yesterday so he did probably devise and install the game plan.
  7. The main thread is useless for intelligent conversation. No one is listening. Any good post quickly gets buried by the white noise of uninspired thought.
  8. THIS is awesome! Thanks Erik. Much needed stuff. "Lovie Smith ran the linebackers from 1993 to 1994 in Knoxville - so yes, Marrone has worked with Smith in the past." I wonder if the Buffalo News will be able to put together a piece anywhere near as comprehensive and well-researched as this one. Kudos to the writer, Matt Warren.
  9. In football as in life, one has to recognize whether a given situation calls for conventional thinking or unconventional thinking. Do you think that you will always win in poker simply by playing tight?
  10. Wow. Luck with consecutive great throws over the middle.
  11. Yes because Brandon realizes that it'll be easier selling a few more tickets in the mighty Syracuse-Utica-Rome market by hiring the Syracuse head coach than it will be by winning more games with a more-qualified person. Another pearl Howard.
  12. He had more job interviews than all the other candidates. Why would he be the cheapest?
  13. So it's looking more likely that Kelly will return to Oregon. That means that it's not a reach to say that the Bills got the second hottest coaching candidate out there after the hottest guy went back to college. It's not a reach to say that the Bills won and Cleveland and Philly lost. All three teams interviewed and liked Marrone.
  14. Agree. There are already too many mediocre teams in the postseason.
  15. I guess "The Bulldog" was taken so they had to get "The Bull" instead. I wonder how many sports talk hosts have those two monikers. I'm guessing a lot.
  16. Most likely you're looking at hires at assistant positions where they have some connection to Marrone. That's the way it generally works so you have to connect the dots. A lot of this speculation is unrealistic. Just saying. I tried looking online for team media guides for the Jets and Saints teams which Marrone was a member of but I couldn't find those. I was interested to find out who else Marrone coached with in the NFL besides Herm Edwards, Sean Payton, Paul Hackett, Donnie Henderson, Dennis Allen, Pete Carmichael, etc.
  17. I guess this is the first game all year where both Suggs and Lewis have both played.
  18. Yeah he's that prototypical franchise QB. Big, tall, strong, mobile. Indy could possibly win this game because while Baltimore is the better team, Luck could possibly outplay Flacco.
  19. I don't know. All I know is that we're so bad that we can't really discuss anything positive.
  20. Indy trying to inch down the field again. The only way Baltimore loses is if Flacco craps the bed. And that's certainly possible.
  21. More realistic than Lovie Smith, Scott Shafer: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scott_Shafer
  22. Very impressive ball control drive. Luck got lucky though that Reed didn't pick off that one late throw. At about 6 yards per play, it seemed like it would be difficult for Indy to score. They had two near turnovers.
