  1. If he couldn't steal a vowel or two for his last name, what does that say about his defense's ability to generate turnovers?
  2. That's what she said. Wait. That doesn't make any sense. Disregard.
  3. Rob could get a tatoo of his wife wearing a Darrelle Revis jersey. Seriously though. I'm thinking Rob's got too much bluster to be of interest here. Unless Marrone had worked with him in the past, why would he take on a loose cannon coach like Ryan?
  4. Kyle Williams doesn't seem to me like the kind of guy who would open his mouth unless he had the complete and utter respect of every one of his teammates. Playing hurt the last two years without complaint is something I'm sure his teammates greatly respect. As for Marrone, I don't get the sense that he's another Schiano. That's a good thing.
  5. Well I'm glad my point had some value to someone. I guess I was just lamenting how things are different than they were in the good old days when reporters were like detectives.
  6. Anyways, Mike Shanahan was 32 when he first became an NFL OC, Kyle Shanahan was 28, Jon Gruden was 32, and Josh McDaniels was 30. Sean Payton was 37.
  7. I was a late bloomer. Actually a very late bloomer. But look at me now! (LOL) There's a suspicious looking guy smoking a cigarette across the street from our place. That's not you is it? Ever run into him on campus J?
  8. Apparently you do. Thanks for some context Bob. He looked awesome in one game that I did watch but I don't have a formed opinion on Geno Smith right now. I'm sure I'll have a strong opinion about him in 3 months though.
  9. I can top that. Imagine my shock when reading that Daniel Snyder had bought the Washington Redskins at the age of 34. At the time I was 38.
  10. Actually there is no need. That's why hard reporting is dying. For all intents and purposes, John Clayton really could live in his Mom's basement.
  11. "was born December 19, 1979 in Fullerton, California…is married to the former Megan Baumgartner and have a son, Harrison, and a daughter, Briar." Just turned 33 years old.
  12. And that's why I said "the rest of it certainly would." Confirmed. But in what position?
  13. For the most part, ILB is a low impact position. Kuechly was taken 9th overall. This guy Te'o isn't as good. The math is pretty easy as far as totally disqualifying Te'o as an option at #8.
  14. It appears so. It should be noted that his father is one of the most successful Pennsylvania high school football coaches in history. Pettine played collegiately at Virginia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Pettine
  15. The "thorough NFL experience" part wouldn't but the rest of it certainly would. I thought Marrone also said something about the NFL being a very hard place to compete in if you don't have strong experience. Like I said, I'm hoping the young Hackett is not being tabbed for OC but it certainly is possible.
  16. My larger point is that it seems like very few of the big name reporters were doing any actual hard reporting. My impression is that the media basically had no idea of what was going on in Arizona. They were fed a lot of misinformation and reported lots of it and then didn't report on meetings that actually happened. My impression is that the big-name NFL reporters sat around waiting for the phone to ring so they could be spoonfed rumors from their sources. I don't get the impression that there was any hard reporting going on, meaning, staking out hotel lobbies, asking questions at hotel front desks, having the intern talk to the bartender, talking to the concierge, the maitre'd and doing all those things that hard news reporters do to get to the bottom of a story. As for hiring a private detective for a few hours to establish locations of people so you have them on your radar screen, I think you greatly overstate the cost, especially relative to the benefit. JMO.
  17. In his introductory press conference Marrone stated: "Obviously, with the coordinators, we want people that have thorough NFL experience, as far as especially on the defensive side of the ball. Offensively, we want people with NFL experience. For our coordinators, we want to make sure they've been in this league." I'm thinking that Hackett won't be OC but you never know.
  18. Yeah you'd virtually be forced to become a tummy sleeper too.
  19. Coples had 5.5 sacks as a rookie. That's not bad. And as you know, Maybin was cut early on. The truth is, unless you have a truly dominant pass rusher of which there's only maybe 8-10 in the entire NFL, you're gonna need to have about 3 guys who can rush the passer in order to really have a consistently good pass rush. It's not viewed as a major need for the Bills but I've always said that you can't pass up a great pass rusher in the draft. Sacks are a huge factor in negating great quarterbacks. The Bills won't stop Brady until they can build a truly fearsome pass rush. They don't have a fearsome pass rush right now because they don't really have the critical mass of talent needed.
  20. Not to mention it gets a bit distracting when you're trying to spend some quality time with the family.
