Fingers crossed.

Trestman has a small but vocal group of supporters here. He's got a reputation as a brilliant offensive mind. The biggest question is who he can attract on his coaching staff. This will be interesting. I'm glad he's getting a chance.

There's no way Will Belichick trades him. It would be great to have Grady and Les Welker though, not to mention Danny Goodhead. Crabtree put on a late season spurt during which he looked like an elite receiver. As Crusader said, Crabtree plays larger than his listed 6'1". I'm thinking he's gonna go high in fantasy football drafts next year.

I wonder how many night games they'll have on their schedule this year.

I wonder if Chudzinski gave the Browns a thumbs up on the idea of developing Brandon Weeden. That's probably a similar situation to Mularkey and Gabbert in Jacksonville last year.

Great question. There was some suppression of facts by the NFL's former concussion czar, Elliott Pellman. That played a role. Also denial by players entered into it a bit also. Then there are different classes of concussed players (and plaintiffs). Guys in the 50's and 60's probably had no idea what the long term effects were when they "got their bell rung." Today's player knowingly takes these risks. Between these two classes are a wide range of people somewhere in the middle. Finally, NFL football is much more violent than ever before. So that's a factor too.

He wasn't the hot candidate this year but he had a lot of interest last year, interviewing for the HC openings in Jacksonville, St Louis, and Tennessee.

Third down conversion rate would be the most important stat. Adjusted third down conversion rate would be even better because it would possibly support your argument that the opponents third down conversions were based on the Bills giving up too much yardage on first and second downs. These basic stats mean next to nothing. Teams win in the NFL by passing and stopping the pass. I'm done Joe. It's all yours to do with what you'd like. Have fun.

I think Norv has proven that he's an average head coach but an above average offensive coordinator. This is the right position for Norv and probably makes it easier for the Browns to sell Chudzinski to their fanbase. Many people on this board were good with the Bills hiring Lovie Smith as HC as long as he brought Norv Turner (or to a lesser degree Pat Shurmur) with him. This would be a similar package deal.

I like the idea. Doing searches can give you a lot of hits… many of them worthless.

I would say that some players are more penalty prone than others. I would also say that all things being equal, a rookie is more likely to be called for a pass interference penalty than a veteran. Like I said, just my impression.

Disagree. No matter the down and distance, the Bills defense couldn't get off the field. I remember numerous 3rd and long conversions against the Bills defense this past season. They'd finally get a favorable 3rd down situation and still blow it. Short of getting some advanced stats (ie- adjusted third down rate), we'll have to disagree. And I don't want to hijack the thread.

Perhaps in the future you could name the thread: NOT INCLUDING QUARTERBACKS… I probably would have noticed that although I say probably.

My impression made through many decades of watching NFL games while drinking beers is that rookie cornerbacks often get whistled for calls that are not made later in their careers. At first, officials think to themselves "that's a rookie cornerback." Later on they think "that's a veteran cornerback." Pass interference is often times a subjective call and the benefit of the doubt is given to veterans much more than to rookies. Like I said, just an intoxicated impression.

Don't really know too much about Hackett. FWIW, he coached for over 40 years including 23 years in the NFL. I remember Paul Hackett being mentioned as one of the "caretakers of the West Coast Offense" as he coached under BIll Walsh during the Niners glory years of the early 80s. I think that's where his good reputation came from. Regardless, I'm thinking Nate probably has a very high football IQ.

Unless one believes that Pettine's defense will make the existing talent much more effective in rushing the passer, the Bills have a need for another pass rusher. How much money they spent last year is immaterial. Pressuring the quarterback is one of the most important components of winning in the NFL. The Bills had 30 sacks last year. Also Brett Favre. Bert Jones. Where a QB grew up/played collegiately is only an issue with people who use stereotypes to make sense of the world around them. Keep in mind many other things as well: the talent level of the opponent relative to the QBs own team. Which part of the season the game was played. Home or away game? One thing about Cordy Glenn last year is that you could see him improving every week until his dominant performances at year's end, stoning Mingo and Montgomery in the SEC Championship Game. It seems like most posters here watch video without taking into account the context of the game (ie- Nassib vs USC).
