  1. I think the most reliable way of handicapping his value is to look at the range created by Mark Ingram and Trent Richardson.
  2. Yep. Garrett's in the same boat as Rex Ryan. No excuses left. Ron Rivera too.
  3. Awesome. And the last 5 seconds of that is the cherry on top.
  4. But there's more: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/01/11/monte-kiffin-agrees-to-become-cowboys-defensive-coordinator/ According to Ed Werder (who else?)
  5. That is much more fitting. But they need to do a theatrical version of that with some really hokey tap dance interlude during the "give my regards" part. Happy New Year Davy!
  6. Point taken. Just remember though that the SF Niners won their first Super Bowl with 3 rookies and a 2nd-year player starting in their defensive backfield.
  7. Agreed. We've seen Buddy stumble. Hopefully he's a smart guy and has learned from his mistakes.
  8. Also, he's had a nomadic football life, even by the nomadic standards set by football coaches. And another thing I've pointed out is the question of who he would hire for his staff. A great football coach isn't very attractive if he can't hire a strong staff who the team and it's fans can feel comfortable with. Head Coach is like CEO of the football team. He has to delegate.
  9. Well Buddy did actually trade up to take TJ Graham last year so now that he's no longer a virgin, maybe he can do something on a slightly grander scale. You can pretty much publicly chart Nix's progression from scout to GM. It seems like he's learned a lot of very public lessons about for instance, drafting quarterbacks and trading during the draft.
  10. I know. And I did say "extenuating circumstances." The fact remains is that the Bills said they wanted to "stop the bleeding" as far as losing players and they did attempt to re-sign both Whitner and Poz.
  11. A Cornell football discussion and you didn't even have to play the Ed Marinaro card!
  12. I'd hate to have to burn draft picks on replacing a guy that we lost. As you know, Buddy said he wanted to avoid that exact same scenario. On the other hand, they tried and failed to keep Whitner and Poz so extenuating circumstances aside, they didn't succeed in those two cases. But like I said, it would be nice to use the draft picks to improve the team instead of filling holes and barely maintaining the talent level.
  13. First of all, the person I am here is the same person I am in real life. Personally I care what I write and it's a reflection of who I am, anonymous or not. People here have reputations and some people take their reputations seriously, anonymous or not. Secondly, I've become friends with people on this board. I've met numerous people who I first met posting here. If YOU want to be anonymous and unaccountable that's fine. But realize that you speak for yourself. Some people will feel the way you do and other will feel differently.
  14. As I said a few posts upthread, then don't participate. But if that's your position, feel free not to reference the "barometer" threads also. BTW, what kind of person doesn't want to be held accountable for what they say? How does that person's character compare to a person who wants to be accountable for what they say?
  15. If anything it's more important to act first when the market is crowded as it is this year. When Gailey was hired in 2010 there were 2 other coaching vacancies (if my info is correct). The Redskins hired Shanny on January 5th. The Seahawks hired Pete Carroll on January 11th. If you look back on other years, Gailey's January 19th hire was late by any measure.
  16. Hah! One of the great philosophical questions: "If something happens to the defense but Wanny didn't hear it… "
  17. In which case you don't participate. But I like the idea personally. Honestly? I like the idea that people are held more accountable for the opinions they voice here. Especially posters who are loud, opinionated and authoritative. I DON'T like the idea that people can spew stuff and never be held accountable for what they say.
  18. Here are the players who failed to make it as finalists: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/01/11/pro-football-hall-of-fame-finalists-announced/ "Those who did not advance included: Kicker Morten Andersen, safety John Lynch, cornerback Albert Lewis, safety Steve Atwater, coach Don Coryell, running backs Roger Craig and Terrell Davis, tackle Joe Jacoby, linebacker Karl Mecklenburg, former commissioner Paul Tagliabue, special teamer Steve Tasker and executive George Young."
  19. Well maybe a TSW polling/analytics department. It can be budgeted for and layered over our discussions.
  20. Cookie and Saban. However now that they're both gone, it's just a damn shame. Good for the remaining family but so sad that neither man will be there for their big day.
