  1. I think Bado's assertion that "it is very ill-informed this belief that NFL players are automatically doing what is best for their health" isn't necessarily supported by your anecdote about the former defensive end Burt Grossman. I agree with the part about many NFL players not liking their jobs and only doing it for the money. I worked as a sports producer for the CBS affiliate in Buffalo from 1985 to 1990 and knew several of the Bills and Sabres who felt this way. However his main point in that paragraph is that there are a significant number of players who don't bother doing everything they can training, diet, rehab-wise to maximize their careers. I have three points on this discussion: 1) All three of our experiences were with athletes approximately 20 years ago. From watching the games I think it's pretty obvious that the level of mental and physical commitment by NFL players is far greater than it was 20 years ago. They are bigger, stronger, faster, and I seriously doubt any athlete is talented enough to have a real career in the NFL without having a good work ethic. Thus I think the percentage of players who are lax in their approach to their professions is fairly minute, regardless of how much they might like or dislike their jobs. 2) Grossman saying that he didn't like his job does not equate to him saying that he didn't work hard. In fact it could just as easily be argued that since Grossman put such a high premium on pursuing the high income that came with the job that he was a hard worker, not just some guy hanging around to pick up a paycheck. And in fact if you remember Burt Grossman as a player which you obviously do, you would remember him playing a hard-working and inexorable style of football. 3) Like Billy Joe Hobart and Stevie Johnson, Grossman had a well-known reputation as a loudmouth who often said things for effect and to be provocative. That means that there's a real possibility that like Hobart saying that he "didn't study the playbook" and like Stevie saying that he didn't follow the team's workout regimen, Grossman could have easily been bending the truth in the interview which you heard.
  2. Someone once posted that I be made a moderator on this board. Not sure why it was brought up but that's immaterial. However you quoted the post and added the "thumbs down" emoticon. That tells me everything I need to know about how you feel about me so play if off if you'd like but you're not being honest. Also Badol doesn't school me and I don't school him but it sounds like I can put you down for believing that Stevie doesn't work hard and as a result, is injury prone.
  3. I'll try to slow down for you. The Bills have had 6 home games so far this year since your alleged statements by Brandon. That means roughly 420,000 fans have been to see the Bills at Ralph Wilson Stadium since Brandon made the statements you cite. That means he has 420,000 sales records to analyze. Even if "only" 300,000 of those ticket purchases were done by credit/debit card, he would have a clear idea of who is buying the tickets and whether more Canadians buy tickets than Rochester customers. You see, 300,000 purchases is a pretty big sample size. So my point which I thought was pretty obvious is that the Canadian market may have just this year, surpassed the Rochester market in ticket sales. Clear enough? So you never answered the question about why you think Brandon is lying about this. Why would he do this? As for being Belichickian, you're clearly not familiar with Belichick. Often he has no reason at all to be secretive but that doesn't ever stop him from being secretive. Let me ask you this: What would the Bills have to gain by letting their opponents know in advance that Nix was stepping down? You're the sort of person who would criticize Brandon for being open. At the moment you're criticizing him for being secretive. Big surprise.
  4. Feculence! Feculence??? Rather than being jealous, I guess I should just feel happy to have learned a new word today. He's definitely in the running for the Golden Clipboard Award.
  5. Has anyone ever calculated how much money Matt Flynn has made in his career thus far? He and Kevin Kolb have to be neck and neck for most overpaid QBs in NFL history. Of course there's Jamarcus Russell too.
  6. I'd add that while Choice doesn't do anything particularly well (or badly) Bell is a player that you can pound a defense with. In fairness to the Bills, they were the first of 5 different NFL teams Bell spent time with (Eagles, Colts, Saints, Lions) and the Eagles had him twice.
  7. I like the physicality of Bell and the fact that like Choice, he can play all downs. Amen. Hope you got a lot of work done today!
  8. Which is weird because they threw deep plenty in the preseason and training camp.
  9. It was almost like no one wanted a piece of him. CJ's body language as he was running to the goal line was like "don't even think about tackling me." CJ's selection almost makes up for the Charles Rogers and Mike Williams picks.
  10. Call me old fashioned but I really hate when head coaches have that big smile when they're on the sidelines. I think it's conduct unbecoming of a professional football coach because I think it's very disrespectful of the opponent. I believe there are a lot of head coaches who do not smile for this very reason… out of consideration for their opponents. Schwartz and Pete Carroll are the two biggest offenders.
  11. THAT was not your typical post TD dunk/spike. CJ was about 2 feet above the cross bar.
  12. I guess we're the lucky ones who actually have Super Bowl appearances. Imagine that. The list of teams who've never been to the big one: Cleveland Browns Detroit Lions Houston Texans Jacksonville Jaguars New Orleans Saints
  13. I read somewhere that they haven't won on Thanksgiving in almost a decade. That's kind of unbelievable. They're dominating this game but trying to give it away at the same time. Possibly only Browns and Lions fans are more snakebitten than Bills fans. Must be that eastern Great Lakes water.
  14. Happy Thanksgiving KD. All the best! (Why the Lions? Rooting for the underdog?)
  15. Happy Thanksgiving brother! Good luck battling the numbing effects of the evil tryptophan! I don't like EJ's reverse spin move but it might have worked for Flynn against Tulloch on that sack. Packers with Aaron Rodgers: 5-2 Packers without Aaron Rodgers: 0-3-1
  16. Stafford is roughly equivalent to Cutler, IMO. Incredible talent. Seems to be undisciplined, mechanics are still shaky after so many years in the league. I think Cutler has benefited from having Trestman coaching him. I wonder if Stafford needs better coaching to bring out his potential?
  17. Another possible reason is that Marrone is exercising his prerogative as head coach and advising Hackett to mix things up more… or maybe Hackett has persuaded Marrone to mix things up more. I have two thoughts on the subject: 1) The best play calling is when the defense is off balance and caught off guard. 2) That said, if a team is going to have a bias, I prefer a running bias. I think it's good for an offensive unit to have a certain mentality and I believe that most NFL teams abandon the run too quickly. There's a fine balance but I don't mind when a team is a bit of obstinate in favor of the run game ESPECIALLY when developing a young QB and young receivers.
  18. Nick Perry undresses Riley Reiff for a strip sack resulting in a TD. I'll be watching closely to see if Reiff appears to have what it takes to become a good left tackle.
