  1. He took my suggestion (not from me personally) and enrolled at a QB Academy: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/02/12/jamarcus-russell-keeps-working-toward-getting-back-to-the-nfl/
  2. Commentary from a CFL turned NFL wideout: http://profootballta...fewer-big-hits/ “It would prevent a lot of the severe collisions. Guys are getting faster every year. We know that. But with the NFL spacing being more confined than the CFL, there are a lot more big hits. There are a lot more tight windows. It would prevent not all, but a larger portion, of big hits,” Hawkins said, via the Bengals website. “There are more big hits here. I don’t care how fast you are. If a field is a certain size, you’re not going to be able to get there by the time the ball gets there.” Hawkins said he didn’t think the NFL should go from 160 feet to Canada’s 195 feet because there is one extra player in the Canadian league, but that he could see them finding another width that makes the game safer without compromising the on-field product.
  3. I always thought of Landry as being limited in coverage. Apparently I was wrong.
  4. You've been around here long enough that you should know not to present tackle numbers as evidence of competency. Did you think that George Wilson and Nick Barnett played well for the Bills last season? Because they were the team's top two tacklers. Not saying Harris is over the hill, just saying the tackle numbers mean zero.
  5. Yeah Kelsay is like the slow-moving zombie in the B Movies that you just can't kill. He keeps showing up in every scene. A step behind but always around.
  6. Regardless, he's far from the worst safety to wear the Bills uni.
  7. Without knowing for sure, I'd bet the NFL and NCAA have minimum setbacks for how deep the sidelines are for the sake of safety. Just because the room exists doesn't mean that it would safely fit. Football sidelines have benches, equipment, tables, etc. Also the fields have setbacks so you don't have players running into retaining walls. As I said upthread, IF you increase the size of the field, do so incrementally. A small increase could have a huge effect. An additional 2160 square feet of space (gained by widening the field one yard on each side) is significant.
  8. As I've said repeatedly, I love the idea of advanced stats/analytics but you have to be careful about buying into them. Until last year, the All-22 video was not available to the public and thus the "scouting" was done off of videotaped network-televised games. Also, I've seen no proof that the people "breaking down" the video have scouting backgrounds.
  9. Doug is one of the writers for Yahoo's Shutdown Corner NFL Blog. About Doug: http://sportspressnw.com/author/dougfarrar/ His top 16 prospects: http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdown-corner/shutdown-corner-big-board-1-16-pre-combine-161437272--nfl.html And his 17-32 prospects: http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdown-corner/shutdown-corner-big-board-17-32-non-qbs-201705309--nfl.html Just some more stuff for us to chew on.
  10. You're right though on Guidry. I nominated him but he wasn't really that bad. I'm sure we can find someone better/worse.
  11. Lucius wasn't that bad. He was a bit undersized but he had a way of uncoiling on his tackles and really jolting guys. I remember when Knox came in and he set up a competition between Lucius and Isiah Robertson who Knox had coached with the Rams. Robertson won the competition of course but my recollection is that Lucius Sanford was a pretty decent player. You're probably right though that we can find someone more/less deserving than Paul Guidry. I remember Guidry being linebacker mates with an aging Mike Stratton and Edgar Chandler in the middle.
  12. Yeah, he's a thumper. Niners fans were getting on Patrick Willis this season for his lapses in coverage. Willis is actually a pretty good coverage linebacker but the modern game is generally not forgiving of linebackers in coverage. I guess that's why a guy like Keuchly can get drafted so highly. Because he can play every down. Every team would like a true every down linebacker (I lusted after Lavonte David last year) but the truth is, only one or two come out of the college ranks every year.
  13. The way you would do it is to not go all the way to the Canadian dimensions. To do so would be Draconian anyways. That's why it would never happen. Now if you tried selling that you would widen the field by 2 yards (one yard on each sideline), you might find it more feasible to sell to players and fans and also you wouldn't have problems accommodating the new field dimensions in existing stadiums. It doesn't seem like much but we're talking about and additional 2160 square feet. In a game of inches. I've often thought that if the NHL wanted to increase scoring that they could simply increase the size of the goal by just a few inches. I believe the extra room would have a significant effect on the game, more than most people would believe.
  14. He's the guy we should have waited and drafted instead of trading up for Poz. I believe this is a fresh batch of sweet nothingness mixed up by some anonymous pastry chef. Harris has two years left on his contract. I suppose he could be a cap casualty as he's a pretty expensive player and the Jets are a bit tight to the cap. Great linebacker and I'd love to see him come to Buffalo. We also could have drafted LaMarr Woodley in that 2007 draft.
  15. Since the expiration of his rookie contract as a 2nd round pick, Kelsay has completed a 4-year, $23 million contract and is entering the 4th year of a 5-year, $28 million contract.
  16. http://forums.twobillsdrive.com/topic/155660-modkins-emerges-in-detroit/
  17. Rotoworld got that from the Associated Press/John Wawrow's piece linked upthread. As John already said, Kelsay is approaching it like he's staying but is mindful that the decision is not his to make.
  18. He speaks and he has a nickname. Curtis "Motown" Modkins It's not often that going to Detroit is a good career move.
  19. BTW, the OP for the Fitz thread still hasn't changed the title. As far as anyone knows, the Bills have not approached Fitz about a contract restructuring. It's an unsubstantiated rumor at this point.
  20. I would say Darragh is the worst QB I ever saw play for the Bills.
