  1. Looks like you cornered the market on silly cornerback puns. At least you left us the safeties as a safety net. Without a doubt. Then again there are people here who believe that Buddy makes all the decisions in a vacuum. And then you have those who believe that Buddy is no longer part of the decision-making process. It's hard to be a Bills fan in the NFL.
  2. ProFootballTalk naturally has rumors in their rumor mill: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/category/rumor-mill/
  3. Naturally Searcy gets a below average simply due to being totally unproven. I hope he's the player I think he can be which is a very good run defender. Actually for better or worse, he reminds me quite a bit of Donte. Obviously I hope he's a better pass defender.
  4. I'll save others the trouble (actually I won't because so many people here post before reading, but anyways) Kelly was a first rounder yes but he was the Bills second pick after TE Tony Hunter.
  5. And to add something not mentioned yet, McKelvin's position coach for his entire career was the now-departed George Catavolos on whose watch it seemed every Bills DB regressed or never developed.
  6. As others have said though, there are a lot of good safeties available in both free agency and the draft this year so a trade for Byrd is probably unlikely.
  7. Here's his Bowl game against Nevada. They were down in this game 21-0 and then 45-28. Scott led them to a last second victory with two TD passes in the last 1:20 of the game. He had some problems with deep seam routes and fly routes when he didn't set his feet. These were patterns that weren't a big part of their offense but because they were trailing by a wide margin for most of this game, they tried going deep more often with mixed results. I think with his arm strength that he should be able to really improve this part of his game. I think Scott will be a superior red zone QB because he is a quick and decisive decision maker with a very fast delivery and good zip on his throws. He's very accurate and an excellent runner. I'm guessing the red zone percentage for Arizona must have been pretty damn good just based on these three games. edit: Scott also seems to see the field very well, both because he appears to be able to see multiple levels and because he seems to understand where his passing lanes are on every play. Scott has quite a bit of Johnny Manziel in his game although Scott knows when to slide while it seems like Manziel never slides.
  8. Matt Scott at #18 Stanford, a game they lost in OT 48-45. Again with very little time to throw. Interestingly this Rich Rod offense looks very similar to the offense the Bills ran last year. It required Scott to make very quick decisions and throw the ball quickly. To the credit of his receivers, they absorb a lot of punishment because the defense (like the Bills opponents) sit on the short routes and attack the receivers. His receivers were really selling out for the ball which is also a tribute to the QB. Unlike Fitz, Scott has a very live arm and super quick delivery. He's accurate, can run very well and should be able to extend plays easily in the NFL. He looks like he could play easily in a West Coast offense. I really like this kid.
  9. This topic brings up an interesting point though that I've been pondering for a few weeks. Marrone is reputed to use a West Coast variant, sometimes referred to as the Gulf Coast Offense. Hackett's Dad was a strict practitioner of the West Coast offense. Yet I've seen very little conversation about what available quarterbacks, pro and college, would project to fitting the Bills new offense. Occasionally some people have made the point that Barkley and Nassib are obvious fits for the Bills offense and while not liking either player that much, I agree with the thinking. Are the Bills like many teams, going to adopt some elements of the read option (using Brad Smith)? Does a statuesque pocket passer (Glennon, Landry Jones, Tyler Bray) fit into what we anticipate the Bills offense to look like? How about a rangy athletic QB like Manuel? Back to the OP, IF the Bills were in the market for a veteran placeholder/eventual backup certainly Seneca Wallace would seem to be a good fit. However I feel like the Bills are gonna add a QB in the draft and not pursue any free agent QBs.
  10. Geez we lost Ernie Warlick late last year. Another member of those great teams has left us. Maybe the best safety in AFL history. RIP George.
  11. Thank you very much. Wasn't Peerless Price an example of this too? Because it would be a waste for the Niners to use all 15 draft picks. They would end up cutting good players. And you can't keep stockpiling them either. Sooner or later you have to use them. However I can't see them trading for Byrd when they could just have re-signed Goldson.
  12. I think the Rams were happy to grant his wish to leave. They're a rebuilding team off the hook for his big contract. His path and theirs have diverged. Jackson wants to win a championship, and he probably figures he has two years left. His best chance to win is not in St. Louis. They're two years away and in the same division as San Francisco and Seattle. Aside from the money Jackson walked away from, the parting was best for both sides. Jackson's gonna be a great addition to some team with championship aspirations. He's a win-now player.
  13. But it doesn't say anywhere in that article that the player and team(s) couldn't agree to a multi-year contract before executing a trade. It also didn't rule out the possibility that the trade could be made with the proviso that the new team would work out a longer term contract for the player. Am I missing something here?
  14. Okay. So the same could possibly apply to Byrd. Thanks!
  15. You guys are crazy. Scott was pretty much under constant pressure in that game and his receivers were usually well covered. And Tony Banks? Banks was a slow ponderous player. Scott plays like he's on amphetamines. They couldn't be more different IMO. I'm guessing you're referring to his footwork and unorthodox deliveries. He was a bit helter skelter but that was also due to the flow of the game. He had to be frenetic because he was playing on edge while leading his team to a 4th quarter comeback victory. Funny how when you're great with questionable mechanics (Favre, Marino) no one questions you. But when you're an unproven prospect you have happy feet and bad mechanics.
  16. Amen to that. I have zero problems with the Mario Williams signing. After his wrist was operated on he was a different player. Playing for Mike Pettine instead of Dave Wannstedt will make Williams even more of a weapon. Mark Anderson was a question mark before he got injured and now he's trying to rehab from a torn meniscus which limited him to a handful of games last year. Did he even have a sack?
  17. This is only one of several facets in the discussion of why you don't draft Warmack at #8. Personally you can't say he's better than someone who has a good career in the NFL because Warmack hasn't played in the NFL yet.
  18. I personally think Jackson is crazy for walking away from $7 million of his own volition. But it also makes me respect him even more than I already did because Steven Jackson is the one guy who can actually say "It's not about the money." You know he's doing this because of a personal ethic. But don't sell him short as a player. I would not underestimate Steven Jackson, especially when he's very motivated. Besides his formidable rushing stats, he has 407 receptions (45.5 per season) and is also an awesome pass blocker and all-around warrior. Jeff Fisher said that Steven Jackson is the Ray Lewis of the Rams offense. That's a helluva compliment.
