Update: The Dreaded Tuck Rule is gone
San Jose Bills Fan replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Actually I don't now WEO. The one thing I do know is that I watch a shyt load of NFL football and that the tuck rule is very seldom seen. I would be very surprised if it came up an average of more than 3 times per season. -
Blast from the past: Dick Jauron
San Jose Bills Fan replied to The Big Cat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There's never been a question that Jauron is a person of virtue and character. I happen to feel the same way about Chan Gailey. I believe that both of them are fine people. I hope Doug Marrone is also an exemplary human being. But more than that, I hope he's a winning football coach. -
He looked like the same player in Buffalo that he was in Minnesota as far as I'm concerned. As for Dumervil, I wouldn't suggest the Bills pursue him and he wouldn't want to come to Buffalo anyways but judging a player by their height is a bit simplistic. For one thing he's a great player. For another thing although he's less than 6 feet tall, his wingspan is 6'6" inches due in part to his wide shoulders and in part to his 32 inch arm length.

The Bills' current starting QB - the numbers
San Jose Bills Fan replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
And IMO that's all that really matters. Whether it is Matt Moore or Matt Flynn or Jason Campbell, or Fitz or Kolb or TJax, it really doesn't matter to me. I think all of us want a rookie who within two years is better than any of these guys. If you accept that to be the case, what difference does it make if we have a veteran QB who is slightly more competent than another veteran QB and as a result leads us to 7 victories instead of 4 victories? -
NFL Farm System
San Jose Bills Fan replied to Canadian Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Was someone in this thread treating it as a new concept? It seems clear in this thread that hardcore pro football fans love the idea of an NFL-sanctioned minor league and wish that the revenues could make such a thing viable, at the same time knowing that it's already failed before. -
Matt Scott - QB - Arizona
San Jose Bills Fan replied to 1billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Every video I saw of Matt Scott was of him being under constant duress and having to get rid of the ball quickly under heavy pressure. The reason it appears to some that he's playing a helter skelter style is because he's generally running for his life. Actually it seems to me that many of the top QB prospects this year had the misfortune of playing behind poor pass blocking offensive lines. But Scott looks to ad lib and improvise very well under pressure. He has a live arm and a lightning delivery. So far from what I've seen I love the kid. -
Cannot believe the lack of respect for Jake Long....
San Jose Bills Fan replied to Dibs's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Just for the record and no other reason, Ogden was a tackle in college and the NFL. He also just became a first-ballot Hall of Famer. -
Gibson interested in bills but bills never called

Well considering you live in St. Louis and are familiar with Gibson, that speaks volumes to me. -
NFL Farm System
San Jose Bills Fan replied to Canadian Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well now this is getting interesting. When they existed, I liked to watch the WFL, USFL, and NFL Europe more than I liked watching NCAA football. My reasons were that they were slightly more polished players (think Triple A baseball compared to college baseball) and that they were playing professional rules on professional fields. The one foot inbounds for a catch, wide hash marks, and can't get back up after falling down rule are all examples of things that really annoy me about NCAA football. I also hate the crappy placekicking and punting that is rampant in the college game. Personally I would tend to watch an NFL minor league more than I would NCAA. Keep in mind I only watch maybe 2-3 college football games each year. -

He also said "your best rookies are last year's rookies" meaning that many players make their biggest jumps between their first and second years. -
Tebow. What have we got to lose ?
San Jose Bills Fan replied to jaybee's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It appears that there is no interest in Tebow. Even the team to which he currently plays is hoping to find a buyer for him. It appears that he will be released and that all 32 teams will have the opportunity to woo him. Perhaps we can pick up the discussion when that happens. -
Tebow. What have we got to lose ?
San Jose Bills Fan replied to jaybee's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No one in the NFL seems to want Tebow but apparently the arena league is ready to welcome him with open arms: http://profootballta...am-wants-tebow/ Tim Tebow technically remains the property of the Jets, in the same way that the bags of garbage in my garage technically remain my property. Eventually, both will be put out on the curb. When that happens to Tebow, another team will play the role of the dude who rolls by in a pickup truck looking for free stuff that someone else is throwing away. The Arena Football League’s Orlando Predators would be that dude. Predators president Brett Bouchy told the Orlando Sentinel, via ESPNNewYork.com. “I think he would definitely improve as a quarterback in our league. Kurt Warner told me once that when he got back to the NFL after playing in the Arena League, the NFL game was like slow motion. Everything in the Arena League is just so much faster and quicker and predicated on accuracy. Whenever Tim is willing, we have a contract waiting for him to sign.” The fact that the indoor game is “predicated on accuracy” could be a problem for Tebow. He won’t magically acquire something he doesn’t currently have, simply because he’ll be playing at a level of the sport that supposedly places a premium on accuracy. But he may not have many/any other options. The Jets would like to trade him, but there has been no buzz about any other team being remotely interested in acquiring Tebow. After he’s inevitably cut, the question will become whether someone else will give him a chance — even if his role would only be scout-team read option specialist. -

Tebow's won-loss record as an NFL starter is 8-6 (.571). Vince Young's is 31-19 (.620). I vote we bring Young in to compete for a job. Oh wait. -

Josh is an Oakland kid. He was recruited by Harbaugh to play at the University of San Diego, a Division I-AA school where he had a great college career. I believe he was undrafted though. I know all this because my nephew was classmates with Josh. In spite of this, I've never seen him play.

Great article on the Bills
San Jose Bills Fan replied to BILLS #1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why do I feel like the OP was the one who wrote the blog post? -
Great stuff, J. I know many presumed extinct dog breeds have been resurrected when some animals were found and used to "re-stock the cupboard" so to speak. I believe this is the case for the Hungarian Viszla and the Korean Jindo breeds. Other dog species were re-created by following "recipes" that were believed to be used when the breed was originally created. As a former doberman pinscher owner (my male who was the best dog ever lived till he was 14) I became aware that Louis Doberman created the breed fairly recently, in the 1890's. He used Rottweiler, German Shepherd, Greyhound, Great Dane, Weimaraner, Manchester Terrier and others to create his new breed. I'm wondering if because your calf has some Auroch characteristics he might have some breeding value to those interested in re-creating primitive breeds. Anyways nice pasture. I see trees still holding their leaves which in WNY usually means oak, sometimes beech, and sometimes hornbeam. Also I'd be interested to know what kind of trees are in your stand and along the gulley. It almost looks like sugar maple or possibly ash. I seem to think you live in Carolina which I always thought was mostly pine and coniferous. I'm pleasantly surprised to see land which looks very familiar to this Western New Yorker.

Preliminary Mock - Any Changes Needed?
San Jose Bills Fan replied to Astrobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hey Astro. Color me skeptical that Barkley will be available at #41. Color me incredulous that EJ or Nassib would be available at #102. And color me totally unbelieving that Matt Scott will still be available at #167. It seems like Draftek seems not to be putting the proper premium on quarterbacks. I think it's clear that this premium exists in real life. I tried looking up Draftek's 2011 Final Mock to see where they had Ponder and Locker, but couldn't find it. Any comments on my observations? -

You're completely wrong. I didn't know the answer. -
Brandon Lloyd anyone

It's hard to be funny on an NFL message board. -
Brandon Lloyd anyone
San Jose Bills Fan replied to Kirby Jackson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well at least Lloyd has learned that career mortality is a real occurrence and that he can't burn bridges like he did with his first three teams. I guess unless your name is Moss or Owens you realize that when you turn 32 years old you that have to tone down the diva behavior. Good luck to Brandon Lloyd. -

BTW, this is a serious question. How many draft spots did our meaningless week 17 win over the Nyets cost us? Anyways, I think we all need this:
