  1. Jeff Fisher, one of the most hardnosed of NFL coaches and a guy who used a battering ram named Eddie George for many years, weighs in: “I think this is a huge victory for the National Football League,” Fisher said. “Here’s how the game should be played: Let’s bring the shoulder back. We’ve lost the shoulder in the game. Let’s bring it back." Fisher said concerns that flags will be thrown any time a running back tries to break a tackle are unfounded. “It’s not going to be over-officiated,” Fisher said. “The key thing here is you can deliver a blow with shoulder, with face, with hairline. It’s just deliberately striking with the crown, the top of the helmet.” Fisher said he understands that players oppose the rule, but he said that everyone who has studied it — from coaches to medical personnel to officials — has agreed that this rule needs to be passed. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/03/20/jeff-fisher-calls-helmet-rule-a-huge-victory-for-the-nfl/ Anyways it's interesting that the rule passed almost unanimously.
  2. Okay. So for the record kas, BPA, BillsVet and Dibs all think Brandon was lying when he mentioned that the Bills were going to establish an analytics department? I'm confused here. It seems that some are suggesting that the Bills have been using analytics while others are suggesting that the Bills never have and never will. Was Nix also lying when he said "You know, obviously, I'm old-school in more ways than one," Nix said, laughing. "It'll be something I'll have to get used to because I go a lot on feel and what I see." Was Nix lying just to cover Brandon? This is kind of a crazy discussion so I'll leave it now.
  3. Real estate here is very expensive. But the tax rates are much lower than in Erie County. Here's a property in San Jose which is listing for $550,000. The total taxes are $4532 per year. http://www.zillow.com/homedetails/2991-Davidwood-Way-San-Jose-CA-95148/19790937_zpid/ Here's a property in Williamsville which is listing for $389,400. The total taxes are $10,347. http://www.zillow.com/homedetails/23-Deer-Run-Ct-Williamsville-NY-14221/30245590_zpid/
  4. I wasn't talking about the video. I was talking about having to watch three posters I really like (you, Kelly, Bandit) getting into an acrimonious and hostile exchange. Crusades, especially ones that get ugly, dilute and deter good discussion. You're not helping your argument for Nassib.
  5. That's dianetics. Diabetics is a method that's used to teach pre-school children how to read.
  6. I agree. Crusades by any poster on any subject get old really quick.
  7. I know that Dave. It had more to do with a pattern in the post history.
  8. Well some people accuse Lee Smith of blocking like an offensive tackle. Unfortunately some people also accuse him of running and catching like an offensive tackle so there's that too. BTW, good job on the spelling of Metz. I believe the success rate for the spelling of his name is below 50% around here. Thanks Ryan. For a balanced conversation, that needed to be said. Throw money at a guy who's recovering from an achilles injury?
  9. In many ways, the retirement of Ray Lewis, and the losses of Ed Reed, Ellerbe, Kruger, Boldin, Bernard Pollard and Cary Williams take the pressure off Flacco. BTW, it's also possible that they lose their starting LT, Bryant McKinnie. Are you using FO to mean front office? If so, I doubt Ozzie Newsome gets fired anytime soon. The Ravens know what they're doing and the head coach and the owner are completely on board with the beginning of this rebuilding process (as their recent comments show). It's not at all unusual for a Super Bowl winner to not even make the playoffs the following season. The Ravens won't say it publicly but they're in rebuilding mode.
  10. Yes. The criticism of Jimbo Fisher, the Seminoles HC and OC is pretty rampant as far as him handcuffing EJ and adhering to an offense that doesn't play to his QB's strengths. The irony is that EJ is a great short thrower and he's a wizard in the screen game. With his height, length and athleticism you see him routinely getting the ball to the receiver on screen passes where other QBs would have trouble. Funny thing that people take this skill for granted but throwing a screen is very tricky and dangerous stuff. There's lots of people in a small space. Of course he also has a bazooka arm. You're basing your opinion of Manuel's intelligence on what you've seen? What have you seen? For the record, EJ is very well-spoken and has completed his degree in Communication with high grades. He's working on a second degree in Criminology. No, they're not super-hard majors but to have completed his program with good grades and to be pursuing a second degree speaks volumes to me.
  11. For the record, I think the rule is problematic at best and ill-advised and stupid at worst. That said, I enjoyed last year's NFL football every bit as much as any season I have ever watched. There's a lot of bitching and complaining but objectively speaking, the game is not being ruined. It's just as entertaining as it's always been. But people do like complaining about things. That's what drives talk radio, which I don't listen to. NoSaint is right. Just a few days ago the NFL outlawed any blocks below the waist from behind regardless of where on the field the block occurred. As far as I'm concerned, blocking in the back should be outlawed. When we were kids we called it clipping. I agree to keep your head up and see your target as a good fundamentals. But if I had a kid playing football, he would be required to wear a neck roll. Football's worst-case scenarios will entertain the possibility of a hyper-extended neck. For me, this never gets old.
  12. Yep. The Titans replaced their backup with an inferior player to save money. I wonder how this news is going over in Nashville these days. I'm thinking that the Titans fans are agog over all the free agent signings so that this backup QB story isn't really being scrutinized as much as it should. Titans fans better hope Locker improves a helluva lot or else they're not gonna see the playoffs again this year.
  13. BTW, kudos to the OP for starting the thread and then editing the title to reflect the story's development. It's nice when people actually care about the topics they post.
  14. Regardless of what Dorsey says publicly, there will be 3 QBs taken in the first round. Yep. And people kept insisting that Bruce Irvin was a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th rounder. It's interesting to see how many people put their faith in the scouting reports of others.
  15. Disagree with Kas, agree with John. We never heard anything about analytics until a few months ago. The Bills publicly stated at that time that they would form (future tense) an analytics department and "layer it over their personnel evaluation process." Why would anyone even think that they were secretly using it before? To think that the Bills were surreptitiously using analytics is a bizarro conspiracy theory to say the least.
  16. Just let my cursor hover over his name and urethra! His vital information shows up. Amazing isn't it Mr. September 2001? edit: Actually I think the proper word is Eureka!
  17. To the bolded, I'd love to move back but I followed all my family out to the West Coast. Someday hopefully I'll move back although the freaking taxes are a crime. Anyways, I'm glad you said what you said. Have you ever lived in Buffalo or have you ever visited? Just curious.
  18. Generally I would agree with you but not in the case of Kaepernick and RG III. I believe that if they both had their ability to run taken away from them that they would still develop into superior passers. Hell, both of them are excellent passers right now. The ability to run is just an added bonus, IMO. I don't really think recent history is relevant though. This is a team which just lost a Super Bowl. They've made moves this offseason which suggest that they're gonna pull every stop to win it this year. I think they're gonna be aggressive about targeting and trading up to get players. An added reason for this belief is that you simply can't draft that many guys or you'll end up cutting too many of them. And as for the tactic of trading this year's picks for next year's, that only delays the pain of having to draft too many players and having to cut them. I could see them trading some of their picks for next year but I think they'll definitely package picks to move up.
  19. I would just like someone to explain to me why I should have any faith in the guy.
  20. What does everyone think of Assistant DB Coach Samson Brown?
  21. I worked in Orchard Park/Hamburg/East Aurora for 10 years, basically 1990 to 2000. It's not Strykersville for sure but it's still kinda rural. Last time I drove down California Road there were still lots of old farms and fields. Put it this way; the area around the stadium isn't really suburban either.
  22. I think that or something similar to that is a very good guess.
  23. Actually I've read every post in this thread since you started it 4 days ago. I've also read every post in almost every other thread and seeing as they're are 110 posts in this one, forgive me for not remembering your position on trading up. It sounded like you were starting to migrate towards the idea that they should trade up to get Smith at all costs.
