  1. I've been doing my viewing of all the top QB prospects in this year's draft. So far I've watched Geno, Tyler Wilson, Matt Barkley, Zach Dysert and Mike Glennon. I'd watched EJ Manuel previously but will give him another viewing. I still have only watched a bit of Ryan Nassib, Matt Scott, Tyler Bray and Landry Jones but will view all of their games. This is probably the best site to do any video "scouting." I've been using this site for a few years now. Click on the prospect's name and you'll see a bunch of video packages for him. http://draftbreakdown.com/qb-rankings Here's Barkley's games: http://draftbreakdown.com/players/matt-barkley The site has multiple games of all the top prospects and the video is tightly edited so there's a lot of information in nice, efficient packages. These are not highlight packages but actually video packages of every relevant play by the featured player. While not all games for each player are available, many of them are and they add video packages every day. As for Barkley, I actually chose not to watch any of his 2012 games because I wanted to see him at his best as he was in 2011. In contrast, all the other players I will only concern myself with their 2012 games because I want to see their most recent level of development. I know it sounds weird but I wanted to see what all the buzz about Barkley was about and the best way to do that was to watch the 2011 video. In the case of Barkley you can see that there are 7 games from 2012 to watch and 11 games from 2011. For the QBs they typically don't show plays where the QB handed the ball off but they will show every play in which he threw or ran with the ball. This means that there are usually about 45 plays per game. That means that for 2011 alone there are about 500 plays you can use to evaluate Barkley. Looking forward to exchanging opinions with other video watchers. Enjoy.
  2. An article in today's USA Today on EJ: http://www.usatoday....-round/2026405/ The 6-5, 237-pound Manuel, who compiled a 25-6 career record, third best in Florida State history, has good reason to spend Sunday with his family. His mom, Jackie is in remission from breast cancer and just returned to work last week. "She was diagnosed in August, so all of my senior year, I had that in the back of my mind,'' Manuel said. "It wore on me. My mom didn't want it to wear on me, but it's my mom. And I wanted her to be okay. After workouts for the Bills, Jaguars, Eagles and Bengals, the Cleveland Browns are penciled in for April 5. And the Oakland Raiders and Arizona Cardinals have expressed further interest. By the way, that's six of the top eight teams in the draft studying the Seminoles star. Manuel can drive throws to all levels of the field. He ran a 4.65-second, 40-yard dash, and the three-time captain joined former West Virginia star Pat White as the lone quarterbacks in FBS history to win four consecutive bowl games. NFL Network draft guru Mike Mayock elevated Manuel to the second quarterback in his rankings, behind Smith. "Who would I be betting on in this quarterback class? I decided Manuel is the guy,'' Mayock said. "There are enough holes in all these kids' games that if I'm going to make a mistake, it's going to be with a big athletic kid with arm talent. He's raw, but E.J.'s got a lot of talent."
  3. Isn't the Bills signing someone like Colt McCoy the sort of thing that happens just before the world ends?
  4. Winner, winner, fish fry dinner! Ah yes, that most androgynous of all creatures...
  5. It's the Amish Crossbow!!! There are also a lot of assumptions that he is good. That's why this debate has reached 11 pages. Because there's nearly an equal number of people with opposing viewpoints.
  6. Bill, I continue to disbelieve that drafting Nassib would cause anyone to buy tickets. Most Bills fans who post here don't even want to draft the guy and many Syracuse fans who post here don't seem very enthralled with him.
  7. Ugh. I'm gonna go ahead and not believe a word that you just wrote.
  8. I would like the people who think trading for Matt Flynn to answer the following questions (ssuming that Flynn is as good as your personal best case scenario): With Flynn starting, how many wins would the Bills have in 2013? Would they make the playoffs? What would their subsequent draft position be for 2014? Is it likely that Flynn has a higher upside than the top prospects in this year's draft? What is the downside of trading one of our 6 draft picks for a quarterback with an expensive contract? What is Flynn's floor? Someone needs to explain the cost benefit to me because I'm not seeing it at all.
  9. Well I would say you speak for some percentage of the population. How much of it I don't know nor do I care. But it's good that you have strong enough feelings on the matter to make one of your infrequent posts and to do so with conviction.
  10. I think sometimes people weigh-in like it's a form of balloting which I somewhat understand although if someone perfectly expresses your sentiment, you should just quote their post. What bothers me more than repeating the same idea (already expressed) is when someone posts an opinion without addressing any of the legit counter-opinions already expressed. IMO, a discussion should move forward and when it's done moving forward it should end. Unfortunately many of our discussions just go around in circles with the same viewpoints being recycled on page 10 as were expressed on page 1. And with opposing viewpoints not addressed.
  11. I see where your heart is in the right place (first paragraph) but I think you're missing the point (last sentence).
  12. Thanks Turbo. As you might expect, it's worth zero. For one thing it's James Walker who is the living, breathing embodiment of mediocrity. For another thing, he merely links to the CBS Sports piece by Jason LaCanfora which revived this thread on page 5 yesterday.
  13. The Dallas Cowboys took Troy Aikman in the first round of the 1989 Draft and then took Steve Walsh in the first round of the 1989 Supplemental Draft just a few months later. I agree 100%.
  14. Agree. Flynn had a few nice moments in Green Bay but this guy is so underwhelming physically he makes Fitz and Cassel look like prototypes.
  15. There's no harm in trading a draft pick for an unproven quarterback with a big contract? I have to disagree Cat. We're gonna draft a rookie this year and he'll probably start at some point this year. If the rookie QB sucks, we'll suck and will pick high again next year. Why would we trade for Flynn after we just cut Fitz?
  16. So we should bring in a guy who's a bit better than TJax so we can win 7 games instead of 4 games? Or do people just want to tie up more money in a veteran backup quarterback? No one will make me understand the point of bringing in a second-tier veteran quarterback.
  17. Just because this wasn't brought up doesn't mean it wasn't fairly common knowledge. I remember hearing the same justifications for Tasker not getting more offensive playing time. But I think the talk here about Tasker's unused talents are an implicit criticism of Marv. Put it this way; a lot of people here believe that Tasker could have had a Welker-type career. How many special teamers are more valuable than Wes Welker? I'm gonna say none.
  18. I'm guessing he's gotten feedback from some teams that they won't come close to his asking price. That said, the Bills would have to pay more than other teams in order to sign him, IMO. Again why would a guy who's played his entire career with a championship contending team want to finish his career in Buffalo? Only one reason and that is money.
  19. Not sure why you would say this. EJ has excellent pocket presence and footwork. He climbs the pocket, dips his shoulder, has good awareness and great escapability. He's also tall enough and strong enough to deliver the ball when he's squeezed in the pocket. I think EJ is probably less dependent on a clean pocket than any QB in this draft. JMO. BTW, ,my observation about the top QBs in this draft is that many of them played behind poor offensive lines.
  20. Stupid is as stupid does so it's hard to argue that. However my takeaway from his NFL Network interview was different than some of the critiques upthread. You could see he was very well-spoken and had a quick humorous retort on numerous occasions. He also wouldn't allow himself to be trapped into a line of questioning about the things he does well or the players he thinks he's better than. I think that Davis has a high natural intelligence but has made lots of stupid decisions. Lack of common sense?
