Alan Branch Signs Extension
San Jose Bills Fan replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Woodson plays a similar style, Ty Law used to routinely mug wideouts. I prefer a cleaner style of CB play but Gilmore is gonna be an excellent player and his style of play is not uncommon. But of course he's a Bill so he sucks. -
Alex Carrington.... i don't get it
San Jose Bills Fan replied to Webster Guy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Exactly which is why there's probably less than a 50% chance that he returns. I think some team out there desperate for D-linemen will offer him borderline starter's money. Especially in view of Parker's relationship with the Bills, I think Carrington's departure is a fait accompli. -
I never addressed (nor did the WEO or GG in the posts I replied to) the following week's game so I'm not sure why you're bringing it up here. That's someone else's discussion. As for your second paragraph, we know the Bills players and their fans would prefer the game to be in Orchard Park. I'm not gonna get into a hypothetical about how suited their team is to play in a cold, northerly climate other than to say that they're a dome and southern team playing 9 games in a dome, and a game apiece in Tampa and Charlotte. What would you guess the Atlanta team would do if they could vote on the venue?

Rosenthal bold face lies about EJ in an NFL.com…
San Jose Bills Fan replied to 1billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This thread is hilarious. 1) After the Nix-Dominick phone call, there was no way Fitz was coming back. Even without the phone call his return was questionable at best. Fitz would rather leave than be demoted and he was pretty clear about that. So why are we entertaining scenarios about Fitz being in Buffalo this season? 2) By a large percentage people on this board at this time last year wanted to hang Fitz. Where are those people now? -
No WEO clearly wasn't saying that. WEO directly replied to GG and I directly replied to both. In the post I replied to WEO makes no mention of wind and footing so unless I missed something, you're putting words in WEO's mouth. To the actual subject, the fact that Atlanta plays no fewer than 10 (actually no fewer than 9) games each and every season in a domed stadium exacerbates even more the fact that the game isn't played in Ralph Wilson Stadium. It's quite simple. Who benefits from the game being in Toronto instead of in Buffalo? Atlanta. Who benefits more from the game being played in a dome? Atlanta. Does anyone here think that oddsmakers don't take this into account? Here's my take on this conversation (hint: it's like the "opponents coming off bye weeks conversation): What some people won't, can't, or don't qualify their opinions with is this: "I'm sick and tired of the Bills ineptitude so I'm gonna cut them zero slack in any discussion. If they're screwed by the schedule maker, I'm gonna call it excuse making. If they screw themselves by scheduling a game in Toronto, I'm gonna call it excuse making." These people are angry at the Bills and so they can no longer approach a discussion from reason. They're anger causes them to not be honest. I'm also sick and tired of the Bills losing but not to the point that I can't still clearly see that the Bills (regardless of putting themselves in that situation) lose homefield advantage when playing against Atlanta in Toronto. I would have more empathy and respect for a frustrated fan that simply says "They did this to themselves so too bad for them" than a frustrated fan that says "Disadvantage? What disadvantage?" Just because someone is pissed off at the team shouldn't mean that they have to be dishonest.

I wouldn't necessarily be bragging about that around here. -
spygate 2.0 in Buffalo
San Jose Bills Fan replied to billsgpr88's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Comprehensive multi-link blurb by PFT: http://profootballta...new-snap-count/ Left tackle Bryant McKinnie believes the Bills defense knew the snap count. “They were getting [a jump]. I feel like they were getting a rhythm with our cadence,” McKinnie said Tuesday, via James Walker of ESPN.com. “Me being around, I knew some things that we can do to help counter that. So I definitely brought that to my offensive line coach.” For some reason, McKinnie didn’t alert offensive line coach Jim Turner to the problem until the game ended. If it’s a problem, it’s not a new one. After a Monday night loss to the Buccaneers in November, left guard Nate Garner said he believed Tampa Bay game-planned the snap count. Actually, the issue possibly dates back to 2012. Texans defensive end J.J. Watt declared that he picked up the Miami snap count from watching HBO’sHard Knocks. -
spygate 2.0 in Buffalo
San Jose Bills Fan replied to billsgpr88's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's just like when the starter in a track event says: "On your mark" "Set" The center still holds the key. He might snap the ball immediately upon being tapped by the guard on one play and then wait a 3-4 count on the next play. The center can still mix up the snap. In that sense it really doesn't tip off the defense that much. The main thing about a silent count for the offense is that it is an attempt at reducing the disadvantage of crowd noise at the same time, conceding any advantage the offense has from knowing the snap count. It's a coping/damage control tactic. -
Belichick blowing smoke again...

IMO Belichick's comments actually fall under the category of routine "Coachspeak." -
Yes. That's exactly what I was suggesting.

spygate 2.0 in Buffalo
San Jose Bills Fan replied to billsgpr88's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is like one dugout accusing the other dugout of stealing signs. 1) It's not cheating 2) Other teams are ALWAYS going to try to get in a rhythm with your cadence Baseball analogy aside, this is largely a function of a young quarterback who has so much on his mind that he doesn't yet have the depth of expertise to keep the opponent off-balance. -
We'll see. In one year we'll know all we need to know, provided EJ can stay healthy next year.
-
You're a wise person purple haze, although I always preferred orange window pane. Wait, what?!?!

Tannehill has great "arm talent" but I strongly disagree with your assessment of EJ's passing ability. Does EJ have to develop more consistent mechanics? Yes. But when he's on, he throws the ball as well as anyone, delivering the throw with a compact yet smooth release, and with excellent pace and a tight spiral. I think EJ is a very natural thrower with a smooth delivery and effortless zip. I'm very confident that EJ will get his gun sighted in. And people who claim that he hasn't made nice tight window throws or shown elite arm talent are in denial IMO. He's completed some throws this year that we haven't seen a Bills quarterback make in many years.
-
You just proved my point which is: People here have no clue how rookie quarterbacks generally play. There have been numerous great quarterbacks who've had terrible rookie years. On average, Tannehill's rookie season was above average. Most credible NFL observers thought that Tannehill had a very promising rookie season.

Eden Pipe Corp What a curious name. Are you from The Six Nations? (Oh boy now I've done it) -
You're right. The Dolphins hired Mike Sherman so Talleywhacker has been able to run largely the same offense he ran in college.

Not to be negative about Woods
San Jose Bills Fan replied to ColdBlueNorth's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Woods clearly swung his arm like a club, the intent to apply percussive force with his arm. It wasn't a conventional punch where he was leading with his fist. So in spite of losing his cool, he still somehow had his wits about him. -
I'll grant that EJ plays behind a better O-line than Talleywhacker. However Talleywhacker only looks better if you're comparing him this year (his second season) to EJ. I thought Talleywhacker looked like just another promising rookie last year, same as EJ this year. Also to my eye (and as you said looks can be deceiving), Talleywhacker looks like a bit of a big, clueless, goofball. For all I know he was an Academic All-America, summa cum laude, etc. but he does not carry an expression of intelligence. Nor do I discern a fire or drive in Talleywhacker. What I get from his facial expressions and his body language is kind of a dumbed-down Trent Edwards. From EJ I always get a sense of determination, a real sharpness, a drive, and overt intelligence. I could be wrong about their characters but if I had to hire one of those kids based on the way they look and the way they talk, it wouldn't be close. And again I think their play on the field is very close when comparing rookie seasons.

I've spoken my piece on this subject as have others and the thought of debating this every week until and beyond April is really more than I can stand. For the record I think EJ's the real deal but I'm not against the concept of taking another first round QB if the circumstances are right.
