  1. I did read that piece and was stunned by what a poor writer Schopp is. The guy has let it "slip out" that he has a genius level IQ but I've never seen that manifested in anything he's ever done. Outwardly he seems like a very pedestrian mind and obviously his career in broadcasting is also very mediocre. Genius is as genius does. From that view, Schopp is not a genius. But he'll tell you that he is.
  2. Surprisingly there are more. The UAlbany football program continues to grow under Ford's leadership, leading to connections between the program and the National Football League. Rudy Vido, who graduated in 1974 as a fullback and defensive end, became the first player in school history to try-out for an NFL team. He tried out for the New England Patriots, but never played in the league. In 2005, Kurt Campbell became the first player in the program's history to be drafted into the NFL. Campbell was selected in the 7th round by theGreen Bay Packers. In the 2007 NFL Draft, Rashad Barksdale, who made the game winning interception against Delaware in 2006, became the second player in school history to be drafted. He was selected in the 6th round by the Philadelphia Eagles. Barksdale was cut however at the end of training camp, but was signed by the Kansas City Chiefs, and became the first player in school history placed on an NFL 53-man roster. Barksdale made his National Football League debut on October 7, 2007 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. It marked the first time a UAlbany player had appeared in an NFL regular-season game when he took the field on special teams. He also played on the punt cover and punt return units and recorded his first career tackle in the fourth-quarter. http://en.wikipedia...._Danes#Football Player Year Position Teams Played With NFL Regular Season Debut Date Dan Gmelin 1997 DE San Diego Chargers Seth Thomas 1997 TE Carolina Panthers Matt Caliandro 1998 DE Tennessee Titans Kurt Campbell 2005 LB Green Bay Packers (Drafted 2005 - 7th Round);Oakland Raiders; Tennessee Titans Geir Gudmundsen 2005 OL Buffalo Bills Andre Coleman 2007 DE San Diego Chargers Jacob Hobbs 2007 OG Philadelphia Eagles Rashad Barksdale 2007 DB Philadelphia Eagles (Drafted 2007- 6th Round) ; Kansas City Chiefs; New York Giants Oct. 7, 2007 Jon Morgan 2013 LB Detroit Lions Drew Smith 2013 RB Buffalo Bills
  3. You would think there was some accountability in the world of draftniks. You would think but you'd be wrong. They deal in revisionism. You would hope there would be some honor in their world but how often do you hear Kiper or McShay admit their mistakes (of which there are no shortage)?
  4. Not sure what your point is regarding the Colts. They had a new regime last year after sucking horribly the year before. So they flipped management, coaches and coordinators and were also the recipients of very good fortune in having Andrew Luck fall into their laps. I don't think you can give the Colts credit for anything that's happened the last two years. As far as Manning bringing Denver a title, that's a bold prediction.
  5. They were mad because Adam Shefter called the EJ Manuel pick before it was made and in contrast, they came off looking like fools.
  6. This is true. And he and Nix said the same thing in their pre-draft comments.
  7. Every situation is different. There are a multitude of factors which will determine if EJ will be a precocious rookie starter or not. There are precedents for every scenario of this discussion. Obviously we'll know more as the OTAs and minicamps come and go and we start hearing how the QBs are acclimating. But my point is, I wouldn't rule out EJ starting from day one nor would I assume that doing so would be a bad thing for his development.
  8. I agree that the backup won't be an undrafted rookie. But can you tell me where the Bills "basically said that EJ is a project?"
  9. I believe that the roster limit is 90 players. If the Bills are at 93 players wouldn't that force them to make 3 cuts?
  10. You think Goodwin would have lasted till the 5th or 6th round had the Bills not drafted him? And you want to "get real now?"
  11. If the Bills got too cute and traded down again and lost their top QB prospect in Manuel and as a result had to draft one of the other QBs, only then could I see them taking another QB in this draft. You only double down if you're not sure about the guy you drafted. If you are sure about the guy, you direct all your energies into that guy.
  12. I don't remember that to be the case. I remember people here were very disappointed in Aaron Williams' play and were wondering if he was a draft mistake.
  13. And Adam Shefter knew the Bills were drafting EJ. Do the math.
  14. It is interesting because they seem like different kind of people. For them to have naturally gravitated towards each other is pretty cool.
  15. To re-state an earlier thought, I believe that the Bills do not view Dansby as a true 3-down LB anymore like he was in the past. If this is the case, then there's no need to throw money at the guy.
  16. Well we have a higher all-time winning percentage than the Jets do and we lead the all-time series against the Jets. So why shouldn't we talk? How about these remarks: Negatives: Operated an offense where he received adjustments from the sidelines and was often out of sync with receivers. Average field vision and coverage recognition — forces throws and does not work through progressions. Takes unnecessary sacks and does not feel pressure well. Not an elusive scrambler. Shaky lower-body mechanics — does not stand tall in the pocket (crouches, hops, dances and elevates to his toes when he throws). Has pin legs and bad pocket posture. Operated almost exclusively from the gun. Not a student of the game. Nonchalant field presence — does not command respect from teammates and cannot inspire. Mild practice demeanor — no urgency. Not committed or focused — marginal work ethic. Interviewed poorly at the Combine and did not show an understanding of concepts on the white board. Opted not to compete at the Senior Bowl and has approached offseason training as if he has already arrived and it shows in his body with minimal muscle definition or strength. Has small hands and glaring ball security issues (32 career fumbles). Really struggled handling the snow in Pinstripe Bowl (took two safeties) and will be troubled by the elements. Needed to be coddled in college — cannot handle hard coaching. Summary: Started the season red-hot with the help of two playmaking receivers and created a national stir generating a lot of overexcitement in the scouting community. Quickly came down to earth after Kansas State disguised coverages and brought pressure he could not handle and he finished dropping six of his final eight games. A cross between Akili Smith and Aaron Brooks, Smith is a gimmick, overhyped product of the system lacking the football savvy, work habits and focus to cement a starting job and could drain energy from a QB room. Will be overdrafted and struggle to produce against NFL defensive complexities. NFL projection: Top-50 pick. I guess Nolan Nawrocki is looking a bit better today than he did 3+ weeks ago when his above remarks were published.
  17. I wonder how significant one half-inch is catching the ball. Just musing.
  18. The entirety of the guy's post history is calling "Branden" a scumbag and an "idiot." He mixes in "inept" once in awhile. He's a bona fide troll and a person who can't spell names right and yet calls others idiots shouldn't get a free pass. If he actually added some value around here you might have a valid case but this guy shouldn't be allowed to post here.
  19. I don't want to draw the ire of the "realists" but I agree. I got excited about Austin about two days before the draft but after watching his video, I have grave doubts about how his game will translate to the NFL. Goodwin on the other hand seems stronger, more explosive, faster… he has a thicker body… The thing I haven't seen talked about around here is the circumstances in Austin surrounding the Longhorns offense. Mack Brown, though he has an offensive pedigree is considered a great recruiter but not a great X's and O's coach. From what I've been told by someone out here, the Longhorns offensive coordinator for the last two seasons, Bryan Harsin ran a much more run-based offense over the last two years than what Texas had run previously. Regardless, Goodwin was only 3rd on the team in receptions though when you add his rushes and his kick returns he had nearly the same number of touches as the other two wideouts who had more receptions. It would be great if someone familiar with the Texas program could shed some light on why Goodwin wasn't thrown to more often.
  20. Ironically Austin beat Goodwin in the bench press by one rep, 14 to 13. They're pretty close in the 40 although purely from an overall athletic standpoint, Goodwin wins the tale of the tape. http://footballsfuture.com/2013/combine/wr.html In spite of being 9 pounds heavier, Goodwin had a 42 inch vertical jump at his pro day compared to 32 inches for Austin and Goodwin's broad jump was 11 feet to Austin's 10 feet. Those are big differences in the "explosives" measurements.
  21. And while we're on the subject, I think Brad Smith is now a wide receiver on this team. There's no reason for him to play QB. With his exceptional athleticism, I'm excited to see how he does as a full time WR. I still remember that awesome jump ball TD he had against the Jets.
