  1. The reason the wildcat went out of vogue is because there wasn't a single NFL team who had a guy running it that was a legitimate passing threat. Therefore it was one-dimensional and defenses knew that the great majority of the time that it was gonna be a running play. The read option is very similar to the wildcat but it typically employs a quarterback, not a running back or a specialty player. I think the read option will continue to be a significant part of NFL offensive football for a long time however I agree that it's best when used sparingly. How sparingly? In 13 games (7 starts) last year Kaepernick ran the ball 63 times. He probably averaged about 6 rushes per 60 minutes. As a 16 game starter, Russell Wilson ran the ball 94 times. That's just under 6 rushes per game. As a 15 game starter, RG3 ran the ball 120 times. That's 8 times per game. Draw your own conclusions.
  2. For all "intensive purposes," yes. BTW, Davis is still in damage control mode. This morning on Redskins Live! he said the following:
  3. Yep, and they'll all be major injury concerns after being hit by Kiko Alonso and Duke Williams.
  4. Also it's not miss use (unless you're talking about a person). It's misuse. Prolly also annoys the !@#$ out of me. At very least why wouldn't you spell it "probly?"
  5. All of your examples (in this thread and the other one) arguing that QBs are not as significant as people say they are, are outdated. In the other thread you referenced the Miami Dolphins of the 70s. The last non-marquee QB to win a Super Bowl was Brad Johnson in 2003. If there's one major consensus in the NFL these days, it's that you need a top caliber QB to win a Super Bowl. Teams that have success without a top QB are the rare exceptions.
  6. To your first paragraph, I understand your point but FWIW, Bob Griese is in the Hall of Fame. To your second paragraph, 2003 (Brad Johnson) was the last year a Super Bowl was won by a QB who wasn't considered one of the top QBs in the game. Today it's considered essential to have a top caliber QB to even reach the Super Bowl.
  7. It's tuel! :wallbash: BTW, Ricky Stanzi I believe is also on the Chiefs. Based on starting QBs the Jets also deserve consideration. Because the information is confidential and no one is saying, we don't know what grade the NFL's Draft Advisory Board gave Bray. Most of the speculation had him no higher than a 3rd rounder. Unless the family badly needed the money I agree that Bray made a bad decision although we really don't know if he got bad advice. There are no guarantees in life. There was a range of possibilities and going undrafted was certainly the worst-case scenario. As for his dad's comments, it makes you wonder what kind of parenting Tyler got when he was in little league, etc. Nothing wrong with sticking up for your kid but we really don't know enough about Tyler and his dad to condemn them or to absolve them.
  8. That was another negative myth about Manuel, that he wasn't sound in ball protection. I think maybe it arose from Gruden teasing him about how he was holding the ball when he was running. But those 10 3/8th inch hands are pretty big clamps. Back to the subject, in spite of ESPN's insistence on giving me Insider for free, I rarely read their content and I rarely watch their networks. It's not a total boycott but it is a significant one. I'll watch/read stuff that I really want to see but it's not like the old days where it was on the TV all the time. The entirety of their product is really revolting, IMO. I hate their treatment of just about everything.
  9. Don't forget 9-time All-Pro safety Johnny Robinson, a member of the All-AFL first team. Marvin Upshaw was also an excellent player. edit: I see Chandler got Robinson accounted for.
  10. Care to elaborate? Maybe we'll even get the chance to hear him speak for himself. I think it's more a case of you not having any taste! Just kidding buddy.
  11. You forgot to put Marquis Goodwin in there. Marquis Goodwin - 13 reps - 42" vertical (at his pro day) - 11' broad jump = 66.0 That ranks Marquis 5th among all receivers in the class and considerably higher than Rogers and Woods, and much higher than Tavon Austin. He's also 9 pounds heavier than Austin. Somehow I don't think Goodwin will have any problems with press coverage.
  12. We also signed a cornerback named Kearney. A penny for your thoughts on him.  Wouldn't that make him a very, very small dark horse? And why did you have to bring race into the discussion? True. I wish they would have cut him the day before yesterday.
  13. I wonder if it was the same secretary who gave EJ a big bear hug when he walked into One Bills Drive? Wow. How could we have hired a coach who doesn't even know what kind of team they're going to have? I don't think he does either. I'll put you and Howard down for thinking the EJ pick was a bad mistake. Thanks for voting.
  14. Apparently Davis has backtracked from his original remarks. So predictable. His agent has released the following statement: I can see the guy but I can't remember his name either. He drives a Taurus…. has a reputation for being cheap….
  15. True, and the spelling is off a bit. But good thoughts well-expressed.
  16. "This week's guest on the Leo and Kiko show, former Bills defensive back Ellis Lankster."
  17. At least it's not his wonderlich. Or is it wonderlic? Wonderlick? I always get that question wrong!
  18. It's a good thing the Arena League didn't exist back then or he'd never have made the Pro Football HOF!
  19. 5/2? God he's even shorter than I thought! Thanks for posting.
  20. Is his hygiene in question? I didn't know that. Happy Birthday John! Welcome to the 50 club!
  21. Based on the still frame, I thought Whaley was gonna sing a song about EJ. Seriously, great video. Don't know where you got it (did you shoot it?) but I'm glad you posted it.
  22. Some people were excited about EJ since late January and have been banging the drum for him and touting him as the best QB prospect for months.
