  1. NoSaint who keeps close tabs on the Saints thinks the chances of New Orleans letting him get away are pretty miniscule. Then there's the question of how desirable a landing spot Buffalo is to a player like Graham.
  2. I think 2013 is irrelevant. Didn't he injure his shoulder in the preseason? He's an organizational part and a sunken cost. He was a former high first rounder. It would seem wise to let him compete with Geno, if the Jets are truly serious about fostering competition. Regardless it'll be interesting comparing the rhetoric with the actual player moves this offseason.
  3. FWIW, the Jets still have Mark Sanchez under contract for one more year. Couldn't he be the one that provides competition for Geno?
  4. Maybe we could trade for your boy Nassib? I did see our record. I also watched the games. So I take it you think the Bills should emphasize need over best player available?
  5. When your own behavior becomes beyond reproach, feel free to lecture others. Again… regrets that this discussion takes place in a thread that should be an appreciation for those no longer here.
  6. Yeah I don't disagree with too much although it's so hypothetical to not be much use. Availability of players in certain rounds (players falling), values, etc make this exercise pretty difficult. I also agree that the team needs to continue to add significant weaponry to the offense although if a stud O-lineman were available at greatly reduced value, that would have to be considered too. In fact I would say that generally the Bills have reached a point in talent threshold that they could start placing more emphasis on Best Player Available and less emphasis on need.
  7. http://www.wgr550.com/two-bills-drive/18082998 For those not inclined to click on the link, here's some of Joe B's "potential" offseason needs: 1) Wide Receiver/Tight End: 1st or 2nd round 2) Right Tackle: 3rd-5th round 3) Running Back: 3rd or 4th round 4) Guard: 4th-6th round or priority free agent 5) Linebacker: 5th-6th round, mid-tier free agent 6) Quarterback: Late round draft pick or priority undrafted free agent
  8. To expand the conversation to a more realistic width, who are this year's Andy Dalton, Colin Kapernick, Russell Wilson, and Nick Foles? In other words who could the Bills snag in the 2nd and 3rd rounds who would make good developmental prospects and become either a good starter or a good backup a la Frank Reich/Gary Kubiak/Jeff Rutledge? Wasn't the kid from North Carolina Renner considered a potential first rounder at the beginning of the season?
  9. We can cherry pick players and listed heights and weights as much as we want. None of us know how much these guys really weigh or how much guys like Mosley and Alonso will weigh next year. I have different weights for Kuechly and Willis than you do but that's immaterial. My point is that too many people automatically equate being bigger with being an effective run defender. However that's only the case when the bigger player is also the better player. By all accounts (I haven't yet watched condensed game video on him) Mosley is an exceptional prospect. I would be in favor of getting a bigger linebacker if he was as good as Mosley, but not for the simple sake of that player being bigger.
  10. FWIW, like last year, the Bills still hold the leverage IMO. They can offer a multi-year deal with the specter of the franchise tender looming over everything. The only difference from last year really is that Byrd's cap number goes up a few million but I don't think that's really onerous to the Bills for one season.
  11. What's interesting is that Munchak is still the coach of the Titans. I haven't heard when Munchak's scheduled to meet with the sons of Bud Adams or whoever is running that franchise.
  12. You totally misconstrued my post and I put zero words in your mouth. In counterpoint to you saying: "The truth is that there are good QBs coming out of college that have thrown thousands of reps and studied nuances of the passing game before they get to the NFL. They can be and are successful immediately." I replied that "Those players you mention in abstract are the exception, not the rule". It's as simple as that your comment needed context. On a separate point it goes without saying that Whaley and Marrone have hitched their wagon to Manuel. While Chudzinski gets fired in one year while Jim Schwartz gets 5 years most people with historical perspective understand that most GM/Coach/QBs get 3 years. Perhaps the current crew will only get 2 years. Whatever. As far as your last point about "being fools to cavalierly pass up better options," I again cite my advocacy of possibly drafting another quarterback in the first round: http://forums.twobillsdrive.com/topic/163868-greg-cosell-glennon-is-best-qb-in-rookie-class-and-it-is-not-eve/page__st__180#entry2988868
  13. ^^^^^^^^^^ This discussion has no place in this thread. Regrets that it's been brought to this point.
  14. If Jimmy Spagnola ever makes good on some of his threats, we might need your "services." You crazy Canuck!
  15. That's a great name. Though I doubt he'd want to come to Buffalo, I'd love Kubiak as an offensive coach here. I think he did great work with a very limited QB in Matt Schaub. Also his zone running schemes are as good as any in football.
  16. Those players you mention in abstract are the exception, not the rule. Since 2009, 13 quarterbacks have been drafted in the first round. Of those 13 only Andrew Luck and Cam Newton look like true franchise quarterbacks. You can include RG3 and Matthew Stafford if you'd like. One can increase the scope to include QBs taken in the first 3 rounds like Kaepernick, Russell Wilson, Andy Dalton, and Nick Foles but then you'd also have to add guys like Brock Osweiler, Ryan Mallett, Jimmy Clausen, Colt McCoy, and Pat White. The inarguable fact is that the bust rate for highly-drafted QBs remains as it has always been: very high, a fact people around here don't acknowledge.
  17. According to reporting Snyder has often provided an audience for disgruntled players which is something I don't believe DeBartolo ever did.
  18. In the trade scenario, that becomes viable depending on what exactly they could get in return. If they could get a mid-first rounder I'd think about it. Otherwise I'd be good making him the highest-paid safety in the league.
  19. I love your draft. As I've said many times linebacking is a cerebral position. The best players are instinctive, intelligent players who understand the game. NaVorro Bowman is probably the best inside backer in the game right now and he's 6' and 240. Lavonte David is arguably the best OLB in the game and he's 6'1" 233. Keuchly is only 235 pounds. All of these guys are excellent run defenders, blowing up plays before they materialize. People here often fall into the trap of thinking bigger linebackers are better as run defenders but the biggest linebackers are still dwarfs compared to O-linemen. To win matchups, a LB needs athleticism and instincts. Rey Maualuga, Rolando McClain, Kelvin Sheppard are just recent examples of well-regarded, plus-sized LBs who were bad run defenders who football fans everywhere thought would be good run thumpers. CJ Mosley is a true linebacker, a guy with great athleticism, toughness and intelligence who understands how to play the position. Mosley's selection would make the Bills defense scary good.
  20. I think you're making a fairly meaningless distinction. EJ needs both snaps and reps. A player with more live game experience will feel more relaxed and acclimated to his surroundings. It's fairly common for young QBs to find that after they have a few games under their belt that the game will slow down for them. Are you saying that more snaps will not be beneficial to EJ? I'm having a hard time understanding your position. He needs to practice his mechanics more and he needs to play more in games. Both of those things will help him to improve.
  21. 5) We don't see eye to eye on this subject and that's fine.
  22. 1) There's a difference between "discussing Bills football" and making constant negative comments about the team. 2) I don't come here to give or receive empathy or sympathy. I'm a grownup. 3) I have enough life experience and experience on message boards and blogs to know that the majority of "broken record complainers" are negative, unhappy people. 4) People here have one thing in common, the Bills. Having that one thing in common doesn't make them similar in any other sense.
  23. It's one thing to not like Hackett but why exactly would you love Chud as offensive coordinator?
